WHAT IS COMMUNITY AND INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT? Contemporary communities face ever-changing and interconnected challenges and opportunities. At UVM, community and international development students work closely with faculty mentors and community members to learn how to foster responsible and sustainable development – both locally and worldwide.

WHY COMMUNITY AND INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AT UVM? • Learn the information and skills needed to make a meaningful and sustainable difference in today’s complex world. UVM students take innovative courses focused on contemporary issues facing communities and develop advanced understandings of the role of development within local and global contexts, applied economics and communication.

• Engage in real-world problem solving. Through internships, research and hands-on courses, students analyze and learn from development issues in Vermont, New England, and around the world.

• Partner with local and international organizations to address development issues through carefully designed service-learning courses and faculty-led trips.

Students and faculty members have nurtured relationships with communities in Belize, Peru, Honduras, and St. Lucia for over a decade.

• Join a network of successful alumni who are using their degree to make a positive impact in their communities and the world.

- Mariah Noth ‘17, Vermont Farm & Forest Viability Program Born and raised in Vermont, Mariah Noth ’17 is a strong advocate for her home state. Having graduated with a B.S. in community and international development and a minor in food systems, Mariah now works as the outreach and communications coordinator for the Vermont Farm & Forest Viability Program. There she helps connect Vermont working lands businesses and citizens with expertise and advising to empower entrepreneurs and strengthen the state’s rural communities.

While at UVM, she took advantage of travel study courses to Peru, Italy and Brazil, which she says expanded her knowledge and understanding of different perspectives and influences the work she does every day.
