WHAT IS DIETETICS? Registered Dietitians are food and nutrition experts licensed to counsel patients on how to lead a healthier lifestyle. They work in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and other institutions. Dietetics is a growing healthcare profession as the healthcare industry moves from treatment to prevention, because so many preventable diseases and conditions are tied to food and nutrition.

WHY DIETETICS AT UVM? • Graduate with a foundation in clinical and community nutrition, nutrition education, and the tools to start your own dietetics practice. As a UVM dietetics major, you will complete a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD Program) and be eligible for an internship or supervised practice program in order to become a Registered Dietitian (RD). • As a national leader in the local and sustainable food movement, Vermont is an ideal place to gain a thorough understanding of the complex challenges, and social and cultural values, that impact access to healthy, nutritious food and related health outcomes. • Work directly with professors on wide-ranging research projects, like understanding how food insecurity impacts mental health, how to help people build cooking skills, or analyzing diets of UVM students. • Join a close-knit department of foodies and food activists with caring advisors focused on preparing you to assume a leadership role in society and industry. • Excellent track record of graduates’ acceptance to top-notch dietetics internship programs and graduate schools.
