Albert Szent-Györgyi found and isolated an organic reducing agent, which he called hexuronic acid (now known as ascorbic acid), from plant juices and adrenal gland extracts.
Four years later, as a professor at the University of Szeged, he helped prove that the acid is identical to the antiscurvy vitamin C, which had been discovered in 1907. His discoveries concerning the roles played by certain organic compounds, especially vitamin C, in the oxidation of nutrients by the cell brought him the 1937 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine.
If you want to know more about the life and work of Albert SzentGyörgyi then join the guided tour which starts every hour!
If you are interested, please register at the registration desk during the morning of the first day of the Orientation!
Wondering about the hidden gems of your new town? Wondering about study places and communities? Wondering where is the best to party? Wondering where to find running buddies? Located in Ópusztaszer, right next to the National Historical Memorial Park, the mazes welcome families, young couples, groups of friends and all our young at heart guests aged between 2 and 99. The 3.5 km long hedge wall maze is the third largest in the world and its design is visible even from satellites: it is modelled on the legendary Mythical Stag. Try the biggest maze, based on a unique stitch in Hungary and even in Europe! Make the right decision in the 13 forks and choose the right direction to get out of the maze! If you are interested, please
register at the registration desk during the first day of the Orientation!
First year students formally join the University community by taking an oath at the beginning of their studies. Among international students of the University of Szeged, this traditionally takes place at the end of the Orientation Days. We dress up in nice clothes and “solemnly swear that we are up to no good”. The formal ceremony will be followed by a community-building Kahoot quiz and a party-marty in the heart of Szeged.
