Atlas Brand Guide

Introduction Welcome to the world of Atlas. In the following booklet, you will be walked through the various elements that make up Atlas’ identity. The following information is provided to help create consistent branding for the planetarium across all mediums.

Atlas Brand Guide

7

Project Brief Beginning as an observatory in 1998, Atlas Planetarium later added its planetarium and science center in 2000. By donning the name of Atlas, members of the community inherit the titan’s original intent: holding up the sky for all to gaze at. Since then, the planetarium has become a learning center for people of all ages. By encouraging the facilitation of knowledge, the planetarium aims to connect people, not only with each other, but with the natural world as well.

8

Design Overview Atlas Planetarium is targeted at people of all ages. As such, Atlas’ branding is bold and pleasing to look at. Its branding maintains an air of professionalism while still presenting itself in a fun, creative way. Atlas' branding focuses on community. "Holding up the sky — together" is a pivotal value to members of the planetarium. To the Atlas family, sharing knowledge is just as important as the gaining of it. As a result, the idea of community is reflected in our branding.

Basic Elements

Just like the universe around us, our design elements help play a pivotal role in our branding. The following section will walk through the different choices made while creating Atlas' designs. The basic elements include:

Basic Elements

3.1.1. Color - Primary Colors

#0576b9

R: 5 G: 118 B: 185 C: 87 M: 49 Y: 0 K: 0 To represent the world and the sky, a soft, calm blue is used. This blue is meant to be welcoming to all.

#f47b2e

R: 244 G: 123 B: 146 C: 0 M: 64 Y: 92 K: 0 To contrast and represent the world, a soft orange was chosen. This warm orange is reflective of the planetarium’s open environment.

G: 118 B: 185 M: 28 Y: 92 K: 0

#ffffff

R: 255 G: 255 B: 255 C: 0 M: 0 Y: 0 K: 0

Representing the three different branches of the planetarium, red and yellow were chosen to compliment the primary orange. Together, the three colors are in accordance with the light spectrum â€” the three colors that travel the farthest. White was chosen to balance out all the colors.

Basic Elements 3.2. Typeface

Tachyon Designed by Ethan Dunham, Tachyon was chosen to give the planetarium a more futuristic atmosphere. As a center for knowledge, the planetarium is a central hub for scientific and astrological advances. As such, this key aspect of the planetarium is further emphasized by Tachyon. Ligatures were made to better unify the entire logo.

2

Tracking: Tracking was adjusted as needed across the word "planetarium." Overall word spans across the entirety of the word Atlas.

16

1

Shape: Logo is shaped like half a circle; the circle alludes to the shape of Earth while the half circle imitates the shape of the planetarium. The two smaller circles represent planets, with a star adorning it all.

2

Lines: The shape of the logo is split by three lines, each representing the different branches of the planetarium and beams that spread into the sky.

3

Color: The blue of our logo represents the color of the sky and Earth. Red, orange, and yellow, the three colors that travel the farthest on the light spectrum, act as a compliment to the blue.

4

Logo: Our logo represents Earth and space intersecting with each other. The planets all line up to be gazed at with a central star guiding the way.
