THANK YOU to northern New Mexico voters for helping to approve GO Bond 2, the largest-ever statewide library bond. The funds will be split up, with $6 million each going to public libraries, K-12 school libraries, and academic libraries at colleges and universities, and another $1 million going to the 17 libraries on tribal lands. It is estimated that YOUR library will receive approximately $18,000 of these funds which is based on a formula using the school’s FTE numbers (full time equivalent students). According to Joe Sabatini with the New Mexico Library Association Legislative Committee, Taos was once again the top county for support at 77.5% yes votes, followed by Santa Fe at 74.4% and McKinley at 74.3%. The Library GO Bond 2 passed with 62.67% in favor statewide. These are unofficial totals until they are updated later this month by the State Canvassing Board but the bottom line is YOUR libraries will now have these funds which will be used for invaluable resources to best serve our students and our community. And with that said, please help spread the word that YOUR college library is open to everyone in the community. In addition to our students, faculty, and staff, the UNM-Taos library is proud to offer our services to members of the greater Taos community.
To sign up for a card, come to the library with a picture ID. Along with borrowing library materials, community members are also welcome to use library computers and the copier/printer while enjoying a spectacular view from YOUR college library. The number of community patrons has increased by 34% since we moved into the beautiful new Pathways building. Also, keep in mind if you just register for one class here at UNM-Taos you would be able to access so much more through YOUR college library. Lastly, we just want to remind you we are here to support students and faculty during these final weeks of the semester and help you prepare for the Spring 2023 semester. YOUR library will be open until the University’s winter break starts on December 23rd. The next bi-monthly newsletter will be coming to your mailbox or popping in your e-mail in 2023. We want to thank you for all of your support throughout this past year!
