Grievance procedures are available to interested persons by contacting the compliance officer listed below. Inquiries regarding this nondiscrimination policy may be directed to the person listed below: Patricia Gonzales Director of Student Services UNM-Taos 1157 County Road 110 Ranchos de Taos, NM 87557 575-737-6212 A copy of the career and technical education courses/ programs offered and 22
admission criteria may be obtained on our website, http://taos.unm.edu or by calling 575-737-6215 to request a mailing. Adding and Dropping Courses Students may drop and add courses on the web at http:// my.unm.edu or in person. Do not expect your instructor to drop you if you stop attending class. See Important Dates on page 2 for Spring deadlines. Call the Student Services Department at 575-737-6215 for complete information. Upon completion of the semester, students receiving a failing or withdrawal grade for all courses will be required to provide documentation stating he/ she was in attendance all semester. If a student cannot provide the documentation requested he/she will have to pay back all financial aid they received for that semester.
PLEASE NOTE: Your instructor will not automatically drop you if you stop attending class and you may receive a failing grade. Cancellation Due to Lack of Financial Commitment Students who fail to pay their full tuition and fees (including second 8-week courses or second 4 week courses in summer) or have not made financial arrangements with the cashier’s office on or before 5:00pm on the scheduled financial disenrollment deadline date will have their registration cancelled and will be disenrolled from all classes. The student must pay tuition in full or make financial arrangements for all university charges. Call the business office at 737-6269, check the Important Dates page 2 or call the Student Services Department at 575-737-6215 for additional information. 575-737-6200
Important Information Course Wait List A wait list is an electronic list of students who are waiting to register for a full class. Students may sign up for this when they attempt to register for a section that has reached its capacity. The first student on the registration wait list is notified via email when a space becomes available. This student then has a maximum of 48 hours (24 hours once the semester starts) or until 5pm on the Add Deadline Date, whichever comes first, to register for the section. If the student does not register for the section within this time frame, he/she will be dropped from the wait list for that section and the next student on the list will be notified. Course Wait List Policies and Procedures 1. Any eligible student wishing to enroll in a course that has reached its authorized capacity may add themselves to one section of that course’s wait list. A student is wait listed in the order in which s/he attempts to register for the course. 2. A student on the wait list is not officially enrolled in that course and is not eligible to receive a grade in that course. http://taos.unm.edu
3. Being on the wait list does not guarantee registration in the class or that a new section will be made available for the same time frame or instructor. 4. A student on a wait list may attend the wait listed course, if seating is available and with the instructor’s permission. 5. Students on a wait list will have conflicts checked with prerequisites, but not duplicate courses, corequisites, or time conflicts. Students can be on a wait list for a course with the same course number, but a different section number than the section that they are enrolled in. 6. Students must meet all registration requirements before being allowed on a wait list. 7. It is the responsibility of the student to check the status of the wait list. If the student no longer wishes to remain on the wait list, they should drop it through LoboWeb. 8. Not all sections have wait lists. Off-pattern/open learning courses scheduled outside a regular term may not be set up with wait lists at this time.
9. Instructors have the right to increase course capacity to allow specific students to enroll in their class. *Wait list goes away the first Friday of the semester for 16 week courses.
Financial Aid Award & Payment Financial Aid forms are available in the Student Services Department. Students seeking financial aid assistance must complete a FAFSA form. The UNM school code is 002663. Once the form has been submitted, please call 575-737-6215 to verify your eligibility or if you need help filling out your forms. Financial Aid funds are disbursed the first day of classes. Scholarship and grant information is available at: http://taos.unm.edu. If a student withdraws during the semester, he/she may be required to pay back a portion of their financial aid. The payback amount is determined by the student’s last date of attendance. PLEASE NOTE: Failure to add/drop courses by the published deadlines could affect your Financial Aid Award. Please see the Financial Aid Office before processing any add/drop transactions after the published deadlines. 23
Important Information Graduation Information Each student is responsible for monitoring his/her individual progress toward graduation. For this purpose, curriculum checklists are available from the UNMTaos Student Services Department for the various degree programs. A request for a degree check should be submitted by each student upon completion of at least 40 credit hours toward an Associate degree or 20 credit hours toward a Certificate. One semester prior to the semester in which the student expects to graduate, a student must petition to graduate by completing a Petition for Graduation form and submitting it to the Department of Student Affairs. Petition to Graduate Deadlines Summer - April 1 Fall - June 1 Spring - November 1 Petition deadlines are set early to ensure that there is ample time to process a degree check prior to registration. Graduation petitions can be picked up at the Student Services Dempartment. Please call 575-737-6215 for additional information.
24
Resident and Non-Resident Status Students are responsible for obtaining the correct residency classification prior to the third week of classes. A student not classified as a New Mexico resident will be charged nonresident tuition rates. All students are classified according to their residency status for tuition purposes. Residency is determined at the time of admission. Any student wishing to change residency classification must petition through the Student Services Department. For a description of the residency requirements, visit the UNMTaos website at http://taos. unm.edu. Tuition Refund All tuition and fee refunds are based on the date of official drop or withdrawal. To receive consideration for a refund of paid tuition and fees, students must complete drop procedures via LoboWeb, or in the Student Enrollment Department. A refund is not automatically disbursed to a student; a written request must be made. If a refund is due and payment was made by check, there is a 21-day hold period from the payment receipt date before the refund is processed. MasterCard/ VISA card
payments must be credited back to the charge card. Check the “Important Dates section for the last drop/refund date for each semester.
