WHY CHOOSE UNM-TAOS?
J. SilvermanUNM-Taos First-year Student
“This year is my very first year of college. I was very nervous to embark on this new journey, and I was scared that I wouldn’t get the support I need to succeed. When I got accepted into UNM-Taos, I was immediately engulfed with an enormous amount of support. I had never felt more motivated, and proud to be a student navigating these trying times. I can happily say that I can finish this semester stress-free, and all of this support has made this year an experience that I truly never will forget.”
Your Community’s College
We are down to earth. Our teachers are people you probably know. Our students are your neighbors. If you never considered yourself a college student, have a look at the next few pages to see if we can change your mind. You might just see someone you know and care about.
Quality faculty
Our teachers are accessible and easy to talk to. Don't worry about asking the right questions. They have the experience and background to help students just like you get through classes successfully.

We are just down the road. If you know where the golf course is, you know where we are. We are open for everyone. Close to home. Come walk your dog and check us out.
Affordable
We are one of the most affordable higher education choices in the state. That’s less than half the cost of most four-year public universities, and when it comes to the private and for-profit universities, well, they aren’t even in our league. Combine this with a robust scholarship program, financial aid, and the opportunity to live at home (we’re the only higher education choice within a 50-mile radius) and you’ll soon see why UNM-Taos is a wise economic choice.
Personalized Experience
We pride ourselves in offering small classes, because in education a oneon-one relationship between student and faculty simply works the best.
Support
We have academic advisors, specialized programs, free tutoring, assistance with technology, and library services — all with robust remote platforms such as Zoom and online courses — to support you through the learning process.

COMMUNITY HEALTH
NURSING
Community Health Workers (CHW) are frontline health work ers who are trusted members of the communities they serve. They bridge critical access, cultural, linguistic, and other gaps in health and human service systems, and have had great suc cess in increasing access to care, improving chronic disease pre vention and control outcomes, delivering educational program ming, improving health literacy, advocating for communities, and assisting clients in accessing and navigating complex processes and systems.
Nursing is a highly specialized profession that is constantly evolving to address the health of our diverse community and global society. The nursing vocation is an art and a science. The art embraces essential respect for human dignity and an intuition for a patient’s needs while complemented by the scientific mind’s critical thinking and clinical judgment. Nurses work to identify and support the needs of the individual, family, and public; working together to aid and protect them in their healthcare.
Dominic
Bau Pre-science, Natural Resource Management"I'm a first-generation student. I'm also a widowed, single father. It's always been a passion of mine to go to school. And when I lost my wife, I found myself in care of our 5-year-old. I thought, I would like to help him with his homework when he's going to high school or college. The professors are really understanding as far as me being a single father and they've been really supportive. It's been a really great experience."
The Natural Resources Management program is for students who love the outdoors and want a job taking care of it. If you love fishing, hiking, and camping, then this is the program for you. We provide you with the education you need to understand environments, human impacts, and management approaches to protect and preserve wildlife, water, and land resources. We partner with federal agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service and local organizations such as Taos Land Trust to provide students with hands-on experience and skills. We support students through transfer to regional colleges/universities to complete bachelor’s degrees. We have an excellent track record of job placement after earning a degree.
