Application of the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources: Case Studies United Nations
The United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) is a project-based classification and management system applicable to all energy and mineral resource projects including renewable energy, anthropogenic resource projects as well as injection projects for geological storage. Since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), managing energy and raw material resources in a sustainable manner has become paramount to all stakeholders such as governments, companies and investors. This has to be viewed along with the Paris Climate Accord, which seeks low-carbon pathways in the appropriate developmental strategies. The book’s case studies demonstrate how UNFC could be used for sustainable resource management. Publication Date: October 2020 ISBN: 9789211172218 Language: E

Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region 2018-2019 United Nations
The Arab region experienced an economic recovery growth rate of 2.3% in 2018, up 1.7% from 2017. This recovery was largely attributed to hydrocarbon sector led growth in the region’s oil-exporting countries. While this growth momentum continues, the region remains linked to geopolitical uncertainties which are further exacerbated by a number of ongoing intraregional diplomatic rifts and armed conflict. The present challenge facing the region is its delicate fiscal situation as several Arab countries have established new energy subsidy systems, aimed at maintaining affordable energy prices against oil price fluctuation.

Assessing Regional Integration in Africa IX
Next Steps for the African Continental Free Trade Area United Nations
Signed by 52 African countries, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is, by the number of participating countries, the largest trade agreement since the formation of the WTO. This report recognizes that it is not enough for the AfCFTA to be merely negotiated, concluded and ratified. It must also change lives, reduce poverty and contribute to economic development. For this, the AfCFTA must be effectively operationalized, but also supported with complementary measures that leverage it as a vehicle for economic development.

The 30th Anniversary 2020 Human Development Report is the latest in the series of global Human Development Reports published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 1990 as independent and analytically and empirically grounded discussions of major development issues, trends and policies. This report offers a thought-provoking, necessary alternative to paralysis in the face of alarming planetary change. Its release comes as the COVID-19 (coronarvirus) pandemic simultaneously offers a glimpse of what a ‘new normal’ could hold and opens up the opportunity for humanity to change course. Financing for Sustainable Development Report 2021 Inter-agency Task Force on Financing for Development United Nations
This report assesses progress in implementing the commitments and actions in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. The global economic recession and financial turmoil from COVID-19 (coronavirus) are derailing implementation of the Agenda and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Even before the pandemic, the 2020 Financing for Sustainable Development Report (FSDR) of the Inter-agency Task Force noted that there was backsliding in many areas. Due to the crisis, global financial markets have witnessed heavy losses and intense volatility. Particularly worrisome is the prospect of a new debt crisis. The FSDR highlights both immediate and longer-term actions, including arresting the backslide, to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. Recommendations are included in the report. Technology and Innovation Report 2021
Catching Technological Waves - Innovation With Equity
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) The UNCTAD Technology and Innovation Report 2021 examines the likelihood of frontier technologies widening existing inequalities and creating new ones. It also addresses the national and international policies, instruments and institutional reforms that are needed to create a more equal world of opportunity for all, leaving no one behind. The report shows that frontier technologies already represent a $350 billion market, which could grow to $3.2 trillion by 2025. This offers great opportunities for those ready to catch this technological wave. But many countries, especially the least developed and those in sub-Saharan Africa, are unprepared to equitably use, adopt and adapt to the ongoing technological revolution. This could have serious implications for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Social Outlook for Asia and the Pacific The Protection We Want United Nations
Social protection is a fundamental right and serves as an enabler for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Social protection has been identified as one of the key enablers for implementing the 2030 Agenda and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In most countries, however, large population groups remain unprotected from normal life contingencies. Meanwhile, unprecedented demographic transformations are underway, and the changing world of work introduces new risks for the majority of workers currently occupying jobs in the informal sector. This publication provides the evidence and impetus to progressively realize social protection for all over the next decade (Decade for Action), based on country-specific contexts, opportunities and challenges. Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region 2019-2020 Realities and Prospects in the Arab Region United Nations
This annual flagship publication seeks to both analyse routinely monitored economic and social variables in the Arab region in a global context as well as address debt sustainability and the macroeconomic implications. Given that the COVID-19 pandemic will have significant repercussions in 2021 and beyond, it is crucial to understand how Arab countries are dealing with the economic impact of the virus. The report sets out two scenarios: a baseline scenario projecting that the economy will rebound in the first quarter of 2021; and a pessimistic scenario in which the crisis will persist throughout the first quarter of 2021. However, given considerable advancements in research on COVID-19 vaccines, an economic rebound should be expected no later than the second quarter of 2021. An Overview of Concepts, Objectives and Requirements United Nations
The United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS) is designed as a unifying framework for the integrated management of resources. UNRMS is based on the globally accepted United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC), which has incorporated a unique methodology of assessing resources through the triple lenses of environmental-social-economic viability, project feasibility and level of knowledge. UNRMS is a voluntary global standard for integrated resource management, within the framework of public, publicprivate and civil society partnerships, that is uniformly applicable to all resources.

From Insights to Action: Gender Equality in the Wake of COVID-19 UN Women
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, shrinking working hours, increased care burdens and heightened violence have exacerbated the challenges that women and girls face. Unless action is taken, around 435 million women and girls will be living in extreme poverty. This publication presents the latest evidence on the multiple impacts of the pandemic on women and girls, including how the crisis is affecting extreme poverty, employment, health, unpaid care and violence against women and girls. Policy action is urgently needed to protect women’s health and well-being, including ensuring access to sexual and reproductive health services. The response to COVID-19 must also take into account the risks borne by essential health workers, the majority of whom are women. The report calls for gender-responsive policies, including the introduction of economic support packages for vulnerable women, as well as long-term investments in social protection systems.

Young readers will learn that each one of them is important, but together these rights help kids everywhere live healthy and happy lives. This beautifully illustrated book contains drawings and paintings created by children from around the world—the winners of an international drawing competition titled “Kids for Human Rights”— illustrating each of the rights.

Understanding What Shapes Child Well-being in Rich Countries
United Nations Children’s Fund, Office of Research-Innocenti (UNICEF-IRC) For the last 20 years, the Innocenti Report Card series has led the way in comparing children’s well-being across rich countries. Report Card 16 develops this further through a multi-level approach to show that children’s well-being is influenced by children’s own actions and relationships, by the networks and resources of their caregivers, and by public policies and the national context. This approach is aligned with the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, in that it recognizes the responsibilities of governments, families and communities to help realize children’s rights and promote their well-being.
