Your President, Secretary & Treasurer took part in the installation ceremony of our fellow chapter JCI Trichur Pooram City and wished the new team of the chapter all our wishes. Let me conclude my month’s message with a small story on Value:-
A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a Rs.1,000/- bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this Rs.1,000/-bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this Rs.1,000/-to one of you but first, let me do this." He proceeded to crumple the Rs.1,000/note. He then asked, "Who still wants it? “Still the hands were up in the air. "Well," he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air. "My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth Rs.1,000/-. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special - Don't ever forget it! Thanking you, Yours truly Jc HGF CA Manoj Kumar.M President
DEMAND FOR A LOWER CORPORATE TAX RATE-A PRE BUDGET ANALYSIS Jc CS T.M. Ramachandran BBS,LLB,ACS,MBA
Company Secretary in Practice 1st FLOOR, SAJI NIVAS OPP. RDS LABORATORY Dr. AR MENON ROAD, NAICKANAL THRISSUR, KERALA 680 001, INDIA Mobile:- +91 98460 93998 E mail: iamramantm@gmail.com
Indian Corporates demand for a lower Corporate Tax rate and disinvestment in the Government Stake in the public sector units and eye to have a higher personal tax exemptions limits. Despite all a huge expectation for the increase in the public expenditure to boost growth and the development in the country is the need from this budget 2015. Also, In the pre budget consultations with the Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley, the industrialists have raised the concerns for easing the bank finance with subsidized interest rates by the Reserve Bank of India. This will be the first full budget of the new NDA Government who will set the Economic Agenda for the next four years which will be beneficial for the country as a whole and certainly will chart out new ideas and initiatives to make the recovery process more robust. Further other improvement measures have been taken to boost the agricultural growth, creation of jobs and improving the norms of doing business in India. Here are some of the top ice breaking agendas that the Indian Incorporation wants from the Budget 2015: 1. Extend Dividend Distribution Tax exemption to REIT’s and INVIT’s 2.Extending investment allowances to the Infrastructure sector 3. Exempting infrastructure projects from the requirement to pay Minimum Alternate Tax 4. MAT should be reduced to 10% and SEZ’s should be exempt from it 5. Setting up of an Export Development Fund 6. To improve the Business Environment 7. Greater public investment in Infra Sector 8. Lower Interest Rates to boost consumer and housing demand
9. Continue Fiscal prudence and remove surcharge to spur spending 10. Higher Section 80C Incentives to increase financial savings And many more. All the eyes are on the full fledged budget 2015 by the new Government which will be released in February last week and the countrymen are very much hopeful to receive a splendid New Year 2015 gift from the Finance Minister. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has prepared a full road map for the implementation of the New Companies Act that envisages setting up of the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) and National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) within six months. The government is already in the final stages of the implementation of the rules for IEPFA and NFRA which are the quasi-judicial bodies for the auditing and the accounting standards and which are also delegated with the powers to review and probe into the matters relating to the audit of the companies. Since April, 2014 when the Companies Act, 2013 took effect only 60% of the sections have been notified while the other sections related to the investor protection and winding up of the companies are yet to be notified. New bodies proposed in the Companies Act, 2013 will be made functional within six months as the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is only at the last stage of the finalising of the rules which will be notified very soon.
Stay Hydrated Stay Healthy Jc Dr. Sangeeta Sudhir Consultant Homeopath In this busy & fast moving life, we always tend to take our health for granted. Here is one of the ways by which we can maintain good health without much effort. Fluids form an important aspect of our health as they make up three fourth of our body. The simplest type of fluid is water. Consuming water frequently is one of the secret of good health. Water as we all know is made up of hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen in the water has a major role to play. Because of oxygen, drinking water frequently rejuvenates our cells and keeps us fresh always. WE are also able to manage stress by being hydrated as it acts as a stress outlet. We can start our day by drinking water as it would cleanse our system. From then on, it is advisable to drink frequent sips of water throughout the day. This tip is helpful for people following irregular diet, people suffering from hyper acidity and stomach disorders. For Diabetics, drinking water frequently helps to maintain blood sugar. It also helps in psychosomatic diseases like migraine, in chronic diseases like sinusitis & skin ailments by cleansing the system and helping the skin to glow. Water regulates body temperature and remove toxin. Hence it is advisable to drink plenty of water during fever.
Basically, drinking water frequently prevents us from being on empty stomach for a longer time and from overeating which I believe is one of the major causes of today’s modern lifestyle diseases. It is recommended to drink a minimum of 8-12 glasses of water per day. Drinking too much water does not overload the kidney. In fact drinking less water should definitely overload the Kidney. For people suffering from Kidney disorders and electrolyte imbalance, a limited intake of water is advised.
Water has this unique quality of adjusting in any situation and finding its own path. By drinking water & feeling energetic, we too should be able to imbibe this quality of water. Health is not valued until sickness comes, so take care of it.
CONFIDENCE JFP Jojo Panthalookaran Imm. Past President, JCI Trichur
Are we confident When I asked this question to myself, I just started thinking, am I? And what about our society? And I found, “Yes, we are.” Let me start with a small story. A student who graduated in his Aeronautical Engineering, from a famous University in America once invited all his Professors who taught him, and seated them inside an aeroplane. Then he told them that, this is a Plane made with the knowledge he has gained from what they have taught. He further explained that it is designed and made only by his own efforts. “Now this Plane is ready for its first flight, and I wish all who taught me, to make this Plane, must be here inside it with me when it takes off. So here we go” said the man. On hearing this, all the professors inside the plane jumped out and escaped from the flight before takeoff. The gentleman became very sad and he looked around, everyone had left, except for one of his Professors, sitting very confidently at the back row of the Plane. He rushed to him and asked “When all other Professors Jumped out, what made you confident in my efforts”. He replied gently. “Son, if you designed and made this plane with the Knowledge which we gave you, then keep aside flying, I am sure you cannot even start the plane. Then why should I jump from the Plane.” This is confidence. Now, one can call this Negative confidence. However, this is how many of us are. -We are confident that we cannot change society with our limited knowledge -We are confident that we cannot be successful in our assignment -We are confident that we cannot do anything alone -We are confident that we cannot speak in front of a group. -We are confident that others are better than ourselves. -We are confident that what we are doing is wrong -We are confident that we will make mistakes. Then why should we Jump from it.
And we call ourselves Jaycees. There are a plenty of opportunities in front of us to convert our confidence to positive. Still we are not ready to utilize the same because we are busy building our career. I believe our career can make us money but it cannot give us confidence or satisfaction. At the end of the race, we will realize that we have forgotten to take something along with us, “Confidence”, which is highly required at that stage. When we see old people with less confidence there is the general thought that they lose confidence as they grow old. But please understand that we cannot lose something we don’t have. At this stage we cannot return to our youth to accumulate lacking confidence. So, we should try to build our confidence in each and everything we do. It is better late than never. Grab every small opportunity which gives or increases our confidence. Here are some simple steps through which we can build confidence. Take Self initiative. Don’t think what others will think Don’t try to do things perfectly, initially Don’t do things over consciously Do things your own way. Set your mind to accept good and bad in life. Be consistent in your efforts and never give up. Keep in mind every successful man has met with failures And the most appealing fact you must keep in mind, is that you are the most important person for the Lord almighty, and that is the reason you are here, in this beautiful world.
So Think, Act and Live your life Confidently
Note: In the above article I was trying to build my confidence by writing an article for the first time in my life. Thanks to JCI Trichur for providing such a good platform “The JC HERALD” to showcase our articles and creations whether it is good or bad.
From the shelves of JCI Trichur Library The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Publisher – HarperCollins; Pages – 312
Nobody Owens was an unusual child. For you see ever since he was the littlest of infants he had been living with a pack of ghosts in a dark abandoned graveyard. Fortunately for him though, these ghosts were not bent on scaring the living daylights out of the little boy. Instead they fed him, clothed him, gave him shelter and even sent him to school. But while he was safe as at home in the graveyard, outside it, lurked an evil set out to destroy him. The man Jack had killed off his family when he was very little and was now looking to finish him off as well.
Many of us grew up seeing the adventures of Mowgli who grew up among a pack of wolves. While the cartoon that used to air on Doordarshan in the nineties was based on a Japanese manga, the original story by Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book, has captured many an imaginative mind. Written by the acclaimed fantasy writer Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book is meant to be an allusion to the children's classic.
The author of the Sandman series of graphic novels weaves a masterful tale that evokes the memory of the original Jungle Book. But to this he adds his own blend of dark twists. Set in contemporary England, the life of Nobody Owens mirrors that of Mowgli in many ways. But, Gaiman recreates the villains with a darker tone. So, gone are the crazy monkeys that entrap Mowgli. In their place there are demented ghouls set out to eat Nobody Owens. Nobody, Bod for short, has to deal with many supernatural beings in his young existence; many out to kill him, while many to help him.
Gaiman brings to fore his extraordinary workmanship to create characters that can raise the imagination of a child. He also shows how not let your own rules come in way of your imagination. In one sequence, he breaks away from the general rule in the book which separates the ghostly world from the living world and creates an amusing yet eventful short story.
There used to be a time when The Jungle Book would have satisfied many a child. But in these days of magical lore and Pottermania, a child would need a story book that can recreate that enchantment. In that sense, The Graveyard Book becomes a deliciously enchanting children's book, but still perfect for all ages.
