CONTEXT

White Bay & Glebe Island

Longer-term priority destination

White Bay is one of only two deep-water wharves west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is used for a variety of port uses, including bulk vessel loading and vessel repairs. White Bay offers extensive views towards the Sydney CBD, Pyrmont and ANZAC Bridge. Glebe Island is a port used for deep-water wharfage, including bulk cement, sugar and gypsum loading and unloading. Glebe Island and White Bay are the only deepwater wharves west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Glebe Island was formerly a car import terminal and the temporary home of the Sydney Exhibition Centre, which relocated back to Darling Harbour in late 2016. DEFINITION 1.0

What is ‘soundscape’ and ‘soundscape for landscape’? transformation

Soundscape ‘as an acoustic environment with emphasis on individual or social perception and understanding modes’ (Li et al. 2021, p. 1).

Soundscape for landscape ‘an acoustic environment in a given scene perceived by individuals, groups or communities with emphasis on the close relationship between human perception and the environment’ (Li et al. 2021, p. 1)

The identification from “soundscape” to “soundscape for landscape” indicates the evolvement of public acoustic awareness and importance.

HYBRID QUESTION

PREVIOUS HYBRID QUESTION What if there will be a high rise residential project in White Bay? · Buildings are also effective sound barrier. · Softscape still irreplaceable considering in human scale.

What will the modern forms of soundscape in the future White Bay? · soundscape designs with high rise residential project · new sensory experiences

VISION & PRINCIPLES

The program aims to introduce a high-quality soundscape and acoustic environment beneficial for the community's health and well-being.

Diverse Sound Typologies

Sense Of Soundscape/ Places

Soundscape& Rehabilitation

· retain industrial characteristic and alleviate the influences

· provide sensory experiences as part of a safe environment/society

· improve the condition of lack of Flora & Fauna

· diverse soundscape by introducing habitats and programs

· introduce opportunities to interactive with soundscape

· rehabilitate the green corridor in Glebe Island& White Bay to a high quality of acoustic environment

· provide a positive sound environment for all dwellers

SITE CONDITION WHAT is on the site?

WHY is it important? Typology of sound source

·urban traffic noise ·freeway & bridge traffic noise ·industrial noise
