Study Trip in Siem Reap From 4 - 8 April, 2016, UNV Research Team participated in a study trip of MOEYS Volunteer delegates of cities under the theme of ‘Youth Volunteer and Community Works’ that took place at the Cambodian National Youth Centre in Siem Reap. The event was organized by MOEYS, General Department of Youth. Up to 150 volunteer representatives from all 25 provinces came from the Boy Scouts, Red Cross, Youth Council, Children’s Council and Youth Centre. The aim of the event was to share experiences and knowledge, learn more about the history of the ancient Angkor Kingdom and Khmer culture, and most importantly learn how to work together for a shared goal.
On the way to the Siem Reap, UNV team visited a school in Preah Domrey commune where they met with a Youth Star Volunteer member who have been teaching young children English language at the school. During the event, UNV team gathered volunteers to participate in three focus groups to discuss the concept of ‘Volunteerism’, and also prepared an interactive presentation about the work of UNV and the role of volunteerism with focus on the project ‘Volunteerism and Youth Employment’ that UNV Cambodia is currently working on.
During the study trip, participants attended learning sessions, presentations, a traditional Khmer dance performance, a trip to Ankgor temples, Khmer Cultural Village, games and volunteer work in a form of painting the walls of the Cambodian National Youth Centre. The event was closed by H.E. Dr. Nath Bunroeun, the Secretary of State of MOEYS who stressed out the importance of volunteerism and appraised the cooperation between the Ministry and UNV.
