Annual UNV Retreat in Kampot UN Volunteers joined together in Annual Retreat on 24-26 August under the theme: ‘Promoting participation to improve the environment and living conditions within local communities’. International and national UN Volunteers along with UNV Field Unit Interns and representatives of the VolCam Volunteer Envoys traveled to Kampot with the purpose of strengthening their understanding on volunteerism for development. order to help the local fishing communities to sustain their land and traditional livelihood. Others activities on the retreat involved getting to know each other better, participating in team building games that served as a ice breaker for the group dynamic and strengthening their team spirit, and also sharing their experience of living and working in Cambodia. UN Volunteers met with Cambodian Youth Action (CYA), and NGO that “brings together young people/youth over the world with peace to learn and share their knowledge and experience and to discuss global issue in purpose of personal development, community engagement and development, and build a long friendship. CYA provides voluntary service to all young people/youth all over the world so that they can learn from each other about culture differences, lifestyle, and experience the real life in rural community.” As a part of their work, CYA supports the local Trapangsanke Community in ecotourism. On last day of the retreat UNDSS joined the UNV team reminding all volunteers to take the necessary precautions to ensure increase their personal safety and avoid any security incidents when in the country. Volunteers also were informed about the new UNV logo and brand which was launched in June 2016.
