THINK AHEAD

Our Careers and Employability team will back you all the way, providing support, skills sessions, advice and opportunities to get you ready for the future.

“As I entered my second year, the Work Based Learning module was introduced. This module allowed nearly all second-year students to work in a real, professional placement for five weeks. At the time, I was determined to work for a company that was actively fighting against climate change. I felt that finding a placement was a mammoth task and I had no idea where to start.

One lecture from Careers and Employability and I knew exactly what I needed to do. The Careers and Employability team has created connections with hundreds of businesses and organisations ready for University of Chester students to thrive in the real world. Sessions run constantly to help prepare students for interviews and help with applications.

For me, I used the CV and cover letter sessions. I was struggling with the layout of my CV; I wanted the document to come across as modern, but also clear and professional. With a cover letter, I did not even know where to start! After a few goes and plenty of help and support from the team, I had a CV and cover letter fit for application.

I applied for a placement on the job board provided by the Careers and Employability team and I was successful to the next stage! Again, a quick preparation session online for my interview and I had secured my placement at Friends of the Earth! Without the help from the Careers and Employability team, I would not have been at all prepared to apply for a placement, let alone be successful.”
