UNSTOPPABLE STUDENTS All our students are unstoppable, and here’s one of them to tell you their story. “Nursing is a profession I have always been passionate about, and after 25 years I decided to take a giant leap and apply to university. I chose the University of Chester due to working with inspiring nurses within the NHS, who had received their Adult Nursing training from this University and were mature students like myself. I have found that I am one of many mature students at the University of Chester, and balancing work, children, and a husband, has not been as daunting as I thought it would be. My experience has been very positive, I have met students from all backgrounds and ages who have enhanced my own university experience. For mature students, returning to education after a while can be daunting, but the University of Chester provides extensive support in adapting to academic work, in the form of study skills, support from your Personal Academic Tutor and support from lecturers.
Nurse training within the current pandemic has provided student nurses with many challenges; changes in placement experiences and lecture delivery, as well as challenges around keeping ourselves and our families safe. It’s also provided an insight into nursing during a pandemic and given us practical experiences we would not have experienced anywhere else. Alongside which, the University of Chester has provided extensive support and guidance, and always kept students up-todate with academic and practice changes. When it comes to nursing, the University’s goal is to support students to succeed, qualify and provide outstanding nurses within the NHS, and this is a goal I strongly believe they will help me to achieve.” Sammie Adult Nursing
