Lecturers Dr Amanda Williamson, Academic Course Leader, Dance
It is inspiring to watch the students work with such curiosity and fascination about the importance of dance in culture and society.
8 | Learn from the best
Learn from the best Our lecturers are published authors, practising theatre directors, choreographers and performers. They have worked for the best in the business, including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall. As well as our team of lecturers, we have an exciting programme of visiting companies and professionals. They provide workshops and lectures throughout the year, in which students can learn new techniques and find out more about the industry. Previous guests have included Frantic Assembly, BBC TV director Sean Gleeson, Motion House Dance Company, Sound Artist and Opera Director Melanie Wilson, Barbara Segal (Baroque Dance) and Film Director Mark Jobst. Be sure to ask our staff about how students benefit from their professional links and find out how we work with our students to help them achieve their goals. Hayley-Jo Whitney, Performing Arts graduate
Contacts are everything in this business. I made some fantastic ones while at university. We worked with Frantic Assembly and Music Hall theatres which led to my first professional job at Bricklane Music Hall in London.

All the world’s a stage Perform with professionals
We work with the best in the business to help our students succeed. You’ll hone your craft and make valuable connections through workshops and guest lectures with industry giants, and perform on a variety of stages and in venues across the globe*. Make the most of our local and global connections alike, from The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, and Strike a Light Festival, to the Royal Shakespeare Company, the BBC and Battersea Arts Centre – you can work alongside professional actors, directors and technicians and gain valuable insight into the industry.
Take your craft beyond the classroom
As well as regularly performing in professional theatres, you can also devise site-specific performances in incredible, historical sites across the UK. Our students have performed pop-up plays in the gardens of Cheltenham Literature Festival, staged full-costume Shakespeare productions in Gothic cathedrals and Hailes Abbey, and produced Suffragette-inspired pieces in 18th Century mansions. Our lecturers will also help you produce your own work for a tour at Edinburgh Fringe Festival where you’ll gain exposure and make professional connections.
