hat defines beauty? Are there guidelines? Rules? Or, is our society so driven by
perceptions and expectations that pure beauty is overlooked? These questions ponder in the minds of many women and even men in modern society. These perceptions of beauty are so driven into our psyche that we build a barrier; a façade. In order for this beauty façade to be broken down, society on a whole needs to understand the reality of where true beauty lies. Beauty is said to be “the combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form that pleases the aesthetic senses.” This definition does not exactly define beauty as particular thing, object or person. Beauty comes in all forms across the world; it is not limited to the human race. For all we know the natural environment is the definition of beauty. So where do we get these perceptions from? Despite what some may say, our society is quite materialistic and consumer driven. We constantly compare ourselves to celebrities, models (who are more than often photo shopped), and even our own peers. We try to keep up with the ‘latest’ trends and looks, hoping that someone notices and comments on our appearance. Why do we do this though? In this age bracket these expectations should go unnoticed as we are mature enough to break through those barriers. The majority succeed in overcoming this after their schooling years, while others continue hiding behind their beauty façade. Throughout history, our definitions and perceptions of ‘ultimate’ beauty have changed extensively. Social change, growth and technologies are only some of the factors that contribute to the reasons of certain expectations. During the early 16th century, artist Leonardo da Vinci painted a half-length portrait of a woman famously known as Mona Lisa.

Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it

The artwork continues to fascinate people around the world, with many stating ‘she [Mona] is the most beautiful woman’. Mona Lisa has been associated with being the definition of ultimate beauty for many centuries. But is she really that beautiful? Within today’s society, Mona Lisa is not the definition of ultimate beauty when viewed from the context of modern day perceptions. We can see the changes in society’s expectations over time and if such expectations hadn’t arisen, Mona Lisa would still be idolised as the ultimate beauty. As we grow older and gain maturity, our personal perceptions on beauty usually change. This can only occur if the expectations are let go and you create your own perceptions on what beauty really is. We start off as a flower bud, pure and untouched waiting to explore the world of beauty in front of us. The sun starts shinning upon us as we embrace beauty within ourselves and others. As our teenage years go on, our minds become clouded by the expectations and pressures of society. At the end of this period in our lives we have the choice to break out of the barriers allowing our flower bud to blossom, or to further build our façade and hide behind perceptions. It is only the acceptance of yourself that enables your true beauty to blossom. Without this crucial step, you are stuck in a phase where your mind is clouded and unable to accept your inner beauty and everyone around you for whom they are. When the word beauty is brought up, the first thing that comes to mind is physical and inner beauty within people. In the wider world, this is not the only form of beauty. As mentioned earlier in the article, “for all we know the natural environment is the definition of beauty”. Personally I believe this statement is true as what surrounds us (e.g. the ocean, trees and flowers) is naturally beautiful. The environment is a large part of our world and catches our eye with its vibrant colours and extraordinary forms. We easily accept the beauty in nature without questioning it, nor judging it so why do we judge the beauty within ourselves? Nature is free of the perceptions and expectations that we constantly judge ourselves with and therefore is able to be viewed without this pressure. If we accept the beauty nature has to offer, then why don’t we do the same within society? Many articles, shows and presentations of this same topic have been published hoping to get the message across. These have been published in popular magazines and shows where a large majority are faced with them. We are constantly challenged with these messages every day, so why is society still not accepting of true beauty? The truth is if we took the messages on board, this topic would not keep arising in the media. We are so blinded by perceptions that the messages do not sink in with people continuing to judge each other. As a whole, we need to come together and realise that we are wasting our time living up to expectations when we can let our true beauty blossom; forgetting our beauty façade.

t’s hard being you, I get it. You walk around feeling out of place, like a fault in the
system. People scrutinise and criticise you and you never feel quite right. You try, try and try again but you never feel like you’re getting anywhere. I get it, it’s hard being you. You might feel alone in the world sometimes but I am here to tell you that you’re not. As members of gen y we live in a world of constant connection yet we feel more alone than ever. Well you’re not alone. People all over the world feel and experience the same emotions as you and the biggest ‘truth’ that I have learnt in this life so far is that all the ‘faults’ that make you feel wrong is exactly what makes you right.

It’s name alone inspires thoughts of government conspiracies, secret aircrafts and alien technologies.
’’
Area 51 - home to some of the world’s most top secret operations and classified information. Its existence has been denied for years, one cover story after another has been told in the effort to keep Area 51 hidden and its activities a secret. However, Area 51’s presence has been perhaps the worst kept secret in the history of secrecy; hide something from the world and curiosity grows in leaps and bounds, our imagination knowing no limits.
‘‘
Yet, Russian spy satellites imaged the area and revealed an air field with 7 runways, transportation vehicle and aircrafts, a support base 25 miles from the air field, warehouses, a fire station, living quarters and many other buildings that look like regular military support buildings; there was even baseball fields and recreational areas sighted. So far it would appear that the agencies behind Area 51 have gone to great lengths to keep the people out and the secrets in, but it doesn’t stop there!
The facts, myths and legends that surround this place weave together in such a way that it can become difficult to separate reality from fiction.
It goes without saying that Area 51 would be your typical or normal type of work place, but one would think that the employees would have authorised access to cross the border and drive themselves to and from the base, right? Wrong! Commuters to Area 51 either take the private base bus or travel on unmarked Boeing 737s or 727s. These planes depart from the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, being owned by Defence contractors.
’’
So what is fact and what is fiction? It’s hard to speculate but one thing is for sure, Area 51 does exist. Obviously, this has only fueled our curiosity more, leaving the world questioning: why are they trying to keep it a secret? Why are they lying? What aren’t they telling us? What are they hiding at Area 51?
Those who work there are sworn to silence in regards to the kind of work they do or the things they have seen. Everyone who works at Area 51, whether military or civilian, must sign an oath agreeing to keep everything a secret. It has even been said that employees have been threatened with dire consequences for themselves and their families if they break their code of silence. Yet, this is said to only be a rumour, but then, isn’t all of this?
There has been numerous accounts of strange and bizarre occurrences around this highly guarded area for many years. Supposedly, it is only meant to be a military base with the general kinds of security required for such an area. But then why is there such extreme security measures surrounding the base?
In 1988 a lawsuit was filed against Area 51 after the death of several employee. One of the seven whom died was civilian Robert Frost. An autopsy showed that his body contained high levels of dangerous chemicals like dioxin, trichloroethylene and dibenzofuran. His widow wife, Helen, filed a lawsuit against several government officials, claiming her husband died as a result of exposure to dangerous chemicals. But was this accidental or were this people silenced? We’ll never know.
Reports of extremely sensitive radars have said to be positioned around the perimeter. If caught trespassing you are immediately led away or arrested. The borders of Area 51 are not fenced, but are marked with orange poles, warning signs and are patrolled by military personnel with weapons. The land and airspace that surround the area continually increase in size, acting as a ploy to keep people out and as far away as possible. To say access to the base is limited is an understatement. The base and its activities are highly classified and its remote location helps keep the activities figuratively ‘under the radar.’ Satellite images have even been altered to show a large and very empty landscape in place of the base and the allegedly covert operational area has been omitted from all documentation and maps.
According to a lawsuit, the workers requested safety equipment such as breathing masks, but were denied due 2 1 to budgetary 3 When 4they asked if5 they might 6 concerns. bring their own equipment, their superiors told them that for security reasons they could not bring outside equipment became sick13from 12 1 civilian 1employees 8 into the9base. After 4 decades of official denials The US government actually, for the first time, acknowledged the existence of Area 51 within the documents of presidential determination, No. 95-45. However, rather than helping the workers lawsuit this official admission served only to increase the secrecy surrounding Area 51. There are people who say that Area 51 is a storage facility for alien spacecraft; one of which had been retrieved after it crashed to Earth during the later part of the 1940s in Roswell, New Mexico. Also based on alien technology, similar spacecraft have said to have being manufactured and tested there. Even more bizarre are allegations that secret meetings are taking place with extraterrestrials without the world knowing about any such thing. Then there are also stories that technology enabling time travel and teleportation is also being developed there in absolute secrecy. And last but not least, an underground railroad system also exists deep below the surface to transport personnel to different locations. The whole UFO and Alien connection to Area 51 can be traced directly to one man, MIT graduate and physicist, Robert Lazar. In 1989 Robert Lazar appeared on television and shocked the world when he claimed to have been part of an operation that worked on reverse engineering alien technology. The 71-year old mechanical engineer appeared in a documentary film in 1996 titled ‘Dreamland’ and claimed that he has worked on some sort of flying disc simulator with an alien being who had telepathic abilities. Other such claimants include Dan Burisch or Dan Crain, who alleges that he too worked with an alien on cloning viruses. But others say that the alien or UFO part of the accusations is just to cloud what actually goes on at Area 51 -something that is supposed to be highly secretive, yet is waved off and denied completely by the authorities. So what is the world’s best-guarded place hiding? Maybe time will tell, or then maybe not. But there’s no denying that the Turth is out there!

Brunch- the hybrid of breakfast and lunch; whoever invented this notion I thank you immensely. It is a given rite of passage to enjoy those lazy Sundays and indulge in the gloriousness of either a breakfast or a lunch at 11.30am without judgement. So have you ever wondered what takes place on a Sunday? Either after a mammoth night out, a quiet one with the little kiddies or even just spent on the couch watching movies? Cat people vs Dog people
ow many of us have a cat or a dog at home?? And how many of us wish we did?? Our companions mean the world to us, but did you ever think that you are pre-disposed to pick a certain animal?? There are so many studies done on the differences between cat people and dog people with so many cool facts‌ Some studies found the most common fact about dog people are that they are generally more extroverted and outgoing, whereas cat people tend to be more introverted and sensitive. Now this is not to say you can’t be a cat person and a loud mouth... Us humans, can be seen as drawing qualities to snowflakes, in the sense that, although there’s the same set of circumstances we are all created unique from others. Which is where it all starts. 1

From the moment we’re taken into our family home we are confronted with different circumstances to others. Where, from the type of TV show flashing on the screen to the religious artifacts situated on the mantelpiece, our parents are unintentionally exposing us to their perceptions of the world. Therefore, these surroundings become the driving forces in the shaping of our own beliefs, outlining to us what is right and wrong, and in turn, what we should believe is the truth. You often hear the words “everyone is entitled to an opinion” to bring a conversation to a close, and sure, it’s correct. But to what extent should one’s view be relayed? In society today it has become evident that we no longer say “I think” or “in my opinion” we just say, “the death penalty is wrong” or “live bait is better for fishing.” We say things in a manner that excludes the possibility of an opposing view. Henry Ford once stated that “whether you think you can or can’t, either way you are right,”
explaining how we perceive our views as being reflections of the truth. But simply just believing in something is not enough; we all feel the need to support our opinions. Humans pertain the trait of wanting to hold power, that in order to live a fulfilled life we strive to change the opinions of others to match our own to get what we want. Yet, circumstances arise where as an individual we feel the need to conform due to the fear that holding a contrasting opinion will result in isolation. This is referred to as ‘cultural cognition’ where we shape our own views to match those of a particular group. One of the strongest manners of expressing the opinion of a group is a rally. A study entitled, “World protests” analyzed that demonstration actions held throughout ninety countries had doubled in 2010, from the figures registered in 2006. Although, it has been shown that only four out of ten protests achieve their desired result. This is commonly a sense
of whitewashing, that regardless of what contrasting ideas are put forward, the rules won’t be changed. This was the case in 2008 when the “march for the babies” protest took place in Melbourne, attempting to make abortions a criminal offence. Regardless of their attempts and the media publicity, the government didn’t take notice. As blogger, Anna Moss mused, “it [shouldn’t even] be a debate when neither side is going to change their mind.” So why are we still determined to speak out? We fall into this allusion because our opinions keep us safe. Acting as our barriers, they help protect us, for if what we believe in is proven incorrect our whole outlook upon life may alter. Which is why we fight to keep those walls strong, by defending what we believe to be true. Although, it is common for our opinions to change or weaken over time. Remember to when you were young and stood by the idea that “boys/girls are yucky.” Obviously this opinion was soon abandoned as puberty and hormones made us view the opposite sex in a different manner. Our exposure to differing issues as we progress throughout life has the power to alter the manner in which we think.
Opinions are not only established through our emotional and personal experiences, they can be informed, supported by factual evidence we’re exposed to. The adaption of this idea can be seen within our development of a response to the question: “which political party does a better job at running the country?” By taking notice to the political issues and statistics of the time we are then able to form a stronger opinion and vote more responsibly. Therefore, if you wish to make an impact ensure you have an educated opinion backed up with facts. For years our opinions have been creating a world that is obsessed. Obsessed with proving ourselves as being correct. But can this be fixed? We need to learn to separate our preexistent negative emotions of a view to allow for us to evaluate it intellectually, and allow for your opinions to be formed by exposing yourself to the perceptions of others opposing the argument. This recognition of contrasting views is what’s lacking in today’s society. We must remember that ideas should only be voiced when we’re able to argue for it. Yet opinions can’t be wrong. 1

I was lost. Now I am almost certain that you and everyone you have ever met has encountered this before, (as my best friend recently stated “hun, we have all been there”), but I am hoping for your sake that it was not as bad as what I did because when I realized what had happened I was frozen to the spot, there may have even been some tears involved. “What?!” I hear you ask, I’m so sorry, what happened?”. Well you see, I dropped my phone... Yes, you read that correctly, my previously shiny, only slightly dented phone slipped out of my hand and went crashing to the ground. The screen shattering on impact. World officially stopped. Now some of you may think that I am overreacting but let me point out what I use my phone for just to put it into perspective,
“
Now the point I’m trying to make is that I use my phone a lot, but is it really necessary to be fully connected all of the time, and constantly checking for notifications? Well no actually it isn’t. But it took for my to completely destroy my phone and be unable to use it for a few days in order to reach this level of understanding. How did I get this emotionally attached to my phone that it was actually more significant to me than being with the friends I was with at that moment? I think this is something that is fundamentally wrong with our society at the moment. We have become disconnected from real life and we live our lives in a virtual world, not even talking to each other face to face anymore.
“
Last week something terrible happened, now this is not meant to be depressing but, my world shattered and I felt like I had just been slapped in the face.
However I don’t think many people are actually aware of this, maybe our society as a whole needs a (symbolic) slap in the face, rather similar to what i experienced.
Is it necessary to be fully connected all of the time?
well camera, (obviously),facebook, instagram, twitter, music messages, occasionally actually making phone calls, games, clock, randommly searching google, look at funny cat videos, taking embarrising drunk videos of friends, email, online shopping, travel deals, snapchat, banking, more games, mild facebook stalking ect
When I didn’t have my phone on me 24/7 and was forcibly disconnected from this virtual world I realized how bad this dependency to technology is. Sitting down having coffee with a bunch of friends I started to notice for the first time a lull in the conversation, everyone suddenly seemed preoccupied with their phones or ipads. It seemed my friends were too busy messaging others or checking their newsfeeds to even notice each other (and me) anymore.
“
“
if this continues, what will our future look like?
Next time you are out just take a second to look around, I am sure you will notice it too; beacuse even though a youtube video of a cat playing chopsticks on a piano with chopsticks is incredibly hilarious, pay attention hot guys just walked past! Recent studies show that the younger the age demographic, the higher the level of addiction to these devices is. When researchers from universities (a.k.a people who are really smart) start to make comments like this you start to get think that this dependency on technology is only going to get worse as the next generation grows up. I don’t know about you but I just had “wall-e” like visions with everyone staring at screens all day and essentially actually doing nothing. It was scarring and rather terrifying. So I think as a society people need to start reconnecting with reality. Because lets face it, facebook and instagram are not reality, they are simply how we choose to portray the best possible version of our reality to the world. Now I hope you don’t take this as me saying technology is evil, or nobody should ever use instagram because I honesty love looking at all the pretty pictures (lets be honest for me it is mostly pictures of
cats and yummy food) but I would rather look at funny fat cats out in the actual world and eat some of that delicious looking food rather than just look at it on a screen while I’m sitting inside procrastinating. We all have bad days and occasionally (yes even I sometimes) take terrible photos, but they never make it onto the internet, unless they have been edited enough to look stunning. Sometimes I think people forget this, I often do. So I challenge all of you today, after reading this article online, switch off for a while. Go outside, go for a walk without texting on your phone the whole way, have an actual conversion face to face and really listen to what people say, basically try and reconnect with reality without posting it all online. After all nobody wants to look at it if it is not perfect anyway.

Up until this point, you maybe thinking ‘well children are happy so much because they don’t understand the “real world” and how “terrible” it is, or how the world may have “wronged” and “cheated” you.’ Which is actually true, they don’t understand the world, they don’t know why they are here either, but they find some kind of happiness form that. I’m not suggesting that we have to be happy 100% of the time, but I believe that we should be happy and satisfied at least 75% of the time. One of the first steps to finding happiness is to admit that happiness is an individual thing, which totally relies upon personal experiences and tastes. To experiment I asked 7 different people, all of whom were my close friends or my family, to describe what happiness is to them and why it makes them happy. I noticed that across the board as I asked them what makes them happy, it was an instant response and everyone’s eyes lit up as they explained what makes them happy and why. Below I have summarized what makes them happy and why.
“
1. My dance teacher, Alyssa, when asked when she is at her happiest, said that she finds happiness when she is riding her horse. She said that with her job and other aspects of her life she is controlled and constrained to a time limit, and generally finds that she doesn’t have enough time. But when she is with her horse she is on “Farm time” and she can relax and take the time to breathe. When she is in “farm time” she gets the chance to be able to connect to her horse and the environment. This allows her to take in her environment, allowing time to pass her by as she rides through the sun or the rain or the wind she gets to really feel. She told me that when she’s riding her horse she feels free and she gets the opportunity to just be herself, without judgement. 2.When I asked my mum, Trudy, what makes her happy she just smiled at me and told me it was her family. My mum has never really had a career or a job, but she has always been very family-orientated. My mum declared that she loves her family more than anything, even more than she loves herself and that when her family is happy and safe it makes her happy.
Happiness is an individual thing which totally relies upon personal experiences and tastes
”
3. David is an old friend from my high school, and when I asked him when he finds happiness he said that when he makes other people smile or laugh it brings him happiness. He enjoys the simpler things in life like sharing a smile or pulling a face at someone to make them laugh and telling jokes, and believe me when I say some of them are just so terrible that you have to just laugh. David told me that this makes him “feel good about himself,’ and that when he makes other people smile and laugh, it makes him feel accomplished. 4. Liam told me straight away that he finds happiness in sport, and when I asked him if there was a specific sport he just said no, “I like all sports, playing it as well as just watching a game live or on TV.” I’ve known Liam for most of my High school life and he has always played sport. He said that he loves the social life as well, making new friends, working together as a team, the social life outside of the sport itself, the mutual friendship and trust in his teams. It makes Liam really enjoy playing sport. Liam is so interested in sport that this year he got himself into to a collage in Sydney to do sports management. He has found what interests him and he is following his passion for sport by chasing it as a career.
5. Ashley once told me that she wanted to get into band management when she got older, so there was only once answer when I asked Ashley what makes her happy. ‘I find my happiness in Music,’ I quote Ashley as I asked her what makes her happy. She is very passionate about music and artists, although Ashley herself isn’t musically talented. She finds happiness by listening to the music and watching someone perform music live. She proclaims that music ‘is consistently there to convey my emotions and experiences.’ It reminds her that she is never alone in her thoughts or feelings. 6. Dancing makes Nick happy because he loves it so much and it’s a great place to get away from all the other stuff going on in his life. Nick is a friend who I met at my local dance school, but to be honest Nick has actually only been dancing for two years now, but he found a passion for dancing. He is at the dance studio trying his hardest, 4/5 days of the week, and even dances in competitions every now and again on the weekends. 7. So, lastly, I asked my partner Chris what makes him happy and said that it was our love. The way we can share a moment together and it can always be special, even if we are having a conversation in the car, or watching a movie together or spending time with our families. We are both happy just to be near each other.
Sometimes it can be hard to find happiness in your lifestyle as you might be too busy to be able to take up a new hobby, but if you can find the time you will not regret your decision. Ideas that you could incorporate into your busy life could be as following Go for a walk. Getting up that half an hour earlier, or going for a walk before dinner is a nice way to get outside either while the sun is setting or rising, you could also take your dog for a walk or a family member or friend if you wanna just have a chat along the way. Sit in a park to eat your lunch and just watch other people passing by. I often do this myself and I tend to make it interesting by making little stories up about them. I find it relaxing to just sit in and just observe the world. It will really make you think about everything.

The truth about Mental illness MENTAL ILLNESS IN THE PAST
Mental illness has been around for as long as humans themselves, however, until recently it’s been a topic not often talked about within our society. People see having a mental illness as a ‘defect,’ or something to be ashamed of. Nobody wanted to admit that they were suffering for fear of being judged or reprimanded, and those who did speak out were often seen to be ‘making excuses for themselves.’ In fact, records show that only one out of every four people with mental health problems had received professional health care. Mental illness has been associated with violence and criminal behavior, and in the past a lot of sufferers would delay seeking help because they were frightened by the illness, the shame stigma and discrimination. Facts show, however, that people who are mentally ill are no more violent or dangerous than the general population. In fact, people living with a mental illness are more likely to be victims of violence, especially self-harm. During an interview with a sufferer of one of the more serious conditions, known as paranoid
schizophrenia, I asked him to describe what it was like living with his condition. In his answer 5 2 4 1 3 6 he stated that he often heard voices, experienced periods of irrational anger and unexplainable 12 thoughts. 1 he often1had 13 9 and that 8 paranoia, 1 suicidal “Sometimes the voices can be so overpowering he stated. 19 He 2 15 that I just 16 can’t block 17 them 1out,” 8 was also asked if he’d experienced discrimination as a result of his illness, and he disclosed that he 27 25 23 thought24of as a criminal 22had been and26that people had been known to avoid him in the past. He also 29 stated that 33 since 34 3 he had31suffered the 32 condition early adolescence and had waited until his early 30’s before finally seeking help. Music piracy is nothing new. Back in the 1960s, teens would connect a cassette deck to a cheap microphone, and hit record up near the speaker of a radio recording music straight off air (obviously not great quality and always a “shh” in the background). Back in the 70s, it was not uncommon for someone to pass around the latest hot album to all their friends for listening pleasure, and some obviously would make audiocassette copies for their own use. Even when recordable compact discs came on the market, everyone was burning a copy or two of a favourite CD onto a cassette or another CD for friends and those long car trips. Throughout all this however, burning and transferring music between cassettes, radio and disks, there was somewhat time and effort put in, and there were still recorded purchases due to quality of sound and reliability of the products. Today though, due to advancing technology music piracy is quick, easy and improved in quality and reliability. It is even quicker and easier to illegally download music then to purchase it in some instances. Even a lot of illegal downloading software has a much wider range (almost everything ever recorded) of music to download then legal paying sites like iTunes and amazon. This is extremely tempting to a pirate. But is illegal pirating really damaging the music industry as badly as we hear? Many studies have been conducted over the last few years that say that in the beginning, piracy impacted record sales, and a significant percent of
this still is true, but is this the only place these industries make money? Over the last decade these same studies have shown that while music records are decreasing, publishing, merchandise and concerts are increasingly growing in profits. As Neil Young recently stated “It doesn’t affect me because I look at the Internet as the new radio… I look at the radio as gone ... Piracy is the new radio. That’s how music gets around ... That’s the radio. If you really want to hear it, let’s make it available, let them hear it, let them hear the 95 percent of it.”
“
Today though, due to advancing technology music piracy is quick, easy and improved in quality and reliability.

Concerts have been significantly more popular in the last decade or two, due to the same advance in technology. The Internet now promotes artists worldwide and nothing seems to be missed. As Young suggested, the Internet and illegal pirating seems to be the new radio, a new means of getting new sounds out on a global scale. While illegal downloading is benefitting the music industry in some ways, lets see why pirating is so frowned upon. 91% of all new music is downloaded illegally via the Internet. What was once the most common way for artists and companies to make their money is now being slammed into the ground due to file sharing. Why would people pay when they can get the same thing for free at the same ease and convenience? This has caused the majority of the old music rags and record stores you once loved and remembered to close. One of the biggest issues of piracy is it makes it a lot harder for musicians to make a start in this industry. The beginning step is more commonly to sell records, at the same time making money and promoting yourself. Now
musicians have a harder time trying to get known before they are able to make a living. More often then not these recordings need a lot of work, time and money, yes money going out of their own pockets into making them. Bit hard to pay for recordings you’re not going to make much money off, right? Is it really fair that musicians will have 91% of their recorded intellectual property stolen, sometimes before it is even released or finished? Would this be considered fair in other instances? Lets say you were a photographer who sells you photos companies, magazines, and individuals for events. If all your work without your permission was being shared all over the Internet for anyone to view and use, would you be able to sell your photography and make any money? So which side do you stand? Are you a pirate or a lawabiding citizen? Write to us at www.faultmagizine.com. au so we can see where you stand on illegal piracy.

“
Maybe it’s something more than an excuse, what if it’s a subconscious choice we make without even realising. To further create a soft landing for things we don’t want to do or know about life.
”
”
We use the word “busy” as the least painless and guilt free excuse, we can find to deal with dodging our mundane problems. So this makes it ok. So I want to tell you a secret, it’s not really a secret but a denied fact of society. We are dying! Every minute of every day, we are running out of time. This isn’t meant to be depressing or anything like that I promise, it was just to remind you that we have to live life to the full, every minute of every day. We just need to do it and I think the best way to do that is to stop siding, with societies default answer of “Busy!” “Really busy.” (Or some sad synonym of that.) To the every day question of “how are you.” I know I’m guilty of this and I know we all are but are we really busy. Isn’t their spare time in our planners? Or do we leave them blank not to spend time doing the things we love but the things that are necessities. Really what do we do with our spare time once we have stopped fulfilling our basic mundane tasks? Because after I say “I just don’t have the time” an hour later I catch my self binge watching reality television, or sitting down texting for hours on end. Even if our diaries are filled with dead lines, work shifts and assignment task. Life may not be as hectic as we perceive, it may be an illusion we have created to make ourselves feel better. We use the word “busy” as the least painless and guilt free excuse, we can find to deal with dodging our mundane problems. Because in stead of writing to our long lost family, or going to the doctors, or filling out paper work. We are really just giving ourselves the excuse, that the matter is out of our hands because we have run out of time. So this makes it ok. Maybe it’s something more than an excuse, what if it’s a subconscious choice we make without even realizing. To further create a soft landing for things we don’t want to do or know. Society has almost stated in a round about way, that we don’t need to ask ourselves hard questions and understand what we want out of life.
”
So instead we entered the race with the person next to us, of who can be the busiest and thus seam like the most filled. I think this has lead to us we not wanting to be alone with our selves.
Really are we ever truly alone in this society between Facebook, computers, televisions and mobiles. Their is always something to keep us distracted from ourselves, so we don’t ever have to ask our selves what we truly want or why where here and are we happy. How often are you alone that you don’t turn on music 5 2 7 4 1 3 6 the or the television for background noise? So we use empty word “Busy” to deny the fact that we don’t want 11 that emptiness or1sadness 12 14 10 don’t feel 9 it out. We 8 to figure 3 of not knowing because if we are constantly busy; how can our lives be meaningless if we are always busy. 20 21 19 15 16 17 18 So life’s tuned into this game were we have to be the 24 including 25 happiness, 26 health,27 22 best, at23everything family and work. The beginning of that is to be good in school, go to best university you can then work your 34 29 33 30 32 31 way up until you get a good job. That will then take up most of the hours in your day and will squash your 38for the relationships, 36 precious 39 37 time and 40 friends4and 1 family that you have spent your whole life creating. These new social norms of “Who can be the busiest 46 48 45 43 44 47 today?” Sadly shows that no matter how much we accomplish and how busy we remain, we may not find or52knowledge. 54 all we 5need 53 So Maybe 51 50 real happiness 5 to do is slow down. I’m not saying quit your job. I’m saying find time for you, where you can ask yourself 62 58 are and59who you 6want 61 57 who you 0 to be? So why not start with the hardest question 66 68 67 65 69 If you had all the time in the world, what would you do? 75 76 71 P.s And72just do it… 74 73
