Welcome to the SVC At the Student Volunteer Centre (SVC) we are here to help you make the most of your time at University. Whether you’re hoping to do something you love, get involved in the local community, champion a charity you’re passionate about, compliment your degree course or simply give your CV a valuable boost, volunteering could be the answer for you! Having overall responsibility for the SVC, I am in the fortunate position of overseeing everything that happens here, from the fantastic staff team to the incredible students who ‘go the extra mile’ and volunteer to the communities and organisations supported. Take a look through our brochure to find out what I mean. I’m really excited to see what students will do in the next academic year! In the SVC we have a team of dedicated volunteer coordinators ready to help you get involved in a variety of volunteering opportunities. Best of luck

How to get Involved The team at the Student Volunteer Centre can help you through each stage of getting involved in a volunteering opportunity.

1. S ELECT the opportunity you are interested in

All of our opportunities are on our website. We also send out a weekly newsletter, which you can sign up to to find out about all our new or one-off opportunities.

2. SIGN up to SVC CENTRE

Register you interest by completing a student register form at su.nottingham.ac.uk/ volunteering

3. SUBmit your application Once you have registered your interest SVC staff will advise on the application process. With over 300 different types of volunteering opportunities the application processes can differ; they could involve a phone call, an email or an application form. Depending on the volunteering opportunity you’ve chosen, you could be volunteering the next day or within the next 2 months. You can apply to volunteer at any time during the academic year, although some volunteering opportunities get filled up quickly or recruitment closes on set dates.

Student led projects Known as ‘SLPs’, our student led projects are run by students for the benefits of others. Whether these are original schemes or university projects started to help existing charities they offer a variety of opportunities for involvement on and off campus.

Help run events, publicise opportunities or get stuck in at local primary schools and organisations. Visit su.nottingham.ac.uk/ volunteering/volunteeringopportunities/student-ledprojects to read about our projects and to sign up.

Whether you want to set up a fundraising group to support a charity close to your heart, or you have a perfectly unique idea that will improve the lives of others, we want to hear from you! volunteering@nottingham.ac.uk to get started.

ONE OFF VOLUNTEERING

SCHOOLS

MICRO VOLUNTEERING

CLUBS & SOCIETIES IN THE COMMUNITY

Take part in volunteering projects where you can make a positive impact in a couple of hours! We have lots of events throughout the year and it’s a good way to get involved in volunteering that’s flexible around your timetable.

Strapped for time? Need a break from revision? Or just feeling like making a difference? Micro volunteering is for you! We have several opportunities that you can take part in from the comfort of your own home. Make a card for a child in hospital or play games online to raise money for charities whatever you do you’ll be changing lives. Let’s get to it!

We help to support several schools in the local area; whether this is to send individual volunteers to help out in classrooms or whether your club or society wants to get involved with teaching schools children, we can help.

Are you part of a club or society? You can take your passion and interests and share them with the local community! Share your knowledge with youth clubs, care homes, community groups or in schools, with support from the SVC along the way.

Example projects include the Riding Club volunteering for riding for the disabled, Chess Society in schools, the STAR Tuesday night English class and Dodgeball sessions in schools. If you have any ideas or want to set up your own project, get in contact with us volunteering@nottingham.ac.uk
