AUGUST 19–27 Move In · Orientation · Convocation · Week of Welcome
Dear Pacific Students and Families,
Welcome to Pacific! We are delighted that you are now part of the University of the Pacific family, joining the rich traditions of California’s first and oldest university.
At Pacific, we pride ourselves on our highly personalized, student-centered approach to learning, living and growing–all on one of America’s most beautiful college campuses.
For our new students, you are taking the first steps in your Pacific journey, a transformational experience during which you will make new discoveries about the world and yourselves, create lifelong friendships, find new passions and become lifelong learners. We want you to take advantage of everything Pacific has to offer, both inside our classrooms, labs and studios and across our extraordinary community. Our Week of Welcome is designed to show you all the possibilities–from courses and internships to the arts and athletics to our more than 100 student groups and organizations. There is truly something for every student at Pacific. Enjoy the start of your journey!
You will often see our First Lady Jean and me around campus, whether attending a concert or cheering on our Tigers at a game or strolling around our lovely 175-acre campus with Cali, our Golden Retriever (who also is looking forward to meeting you—and playing!). Please say hello. We want to get to know you. And as part of Week of Welcome, Mrs. Callahan and I look forward to having you over to our home, which is located on campus near Grace Covell Hall.
For our parents and family members who are temporarily saying goodbye to their daughters and sons, please know that we are here to ensure your child’s success. Jean and I look forward to meeting you at one of our receptions for parents at the President’s Residence during Week of Welcome. And we look forward to welcoming you back October 13-15 for our Homecoming weekend activities.
We are honored to have you as part of the Pacific family. Now, let the journey begin.
Go Pacific!

PACIFIC HAIL!
Words and Music by Lois Warner Winston ’23
From o’er the rugged mountains standing high; From out the broad low valleys, ‘neath the sky; Our alma mater calls, We cannot fail,
Our voices blend in praise, Pacific Hail! Pacific Hail!
Long may her flaming torch give out its light; Long may her spirit guide us in the right;
To her we pledge our hearts, We dare not fail;
To her we raise our song, Pacific Hail! Pacific Hail!
