Urban Pathways Family Feud Night On September 29th Urban Pathways had its first ever Family Feud Night. The game night sponsored by Mrs. Ferguson and the Black Student Union, pitted teachers against students in an entertaining and competitive few games of Feud. The event hosted by Mr. Bonner portraying the real life host Steve Harvey was an all-around success with many teachers, staff, students and parents in the audience participating. There were two games played with the staff winning both games, both times failing to win the “big money” rounds. Game one featured Staff (Ms. Garland, Ms. Beck, Mr. Campbell, Mr. Rosswog, and Mr. Charles) against Students (Dera Cabbastalk, Chyna Williams, Mariha Torres, Aniya Jones, and Kimell Stribling). Game two featured staff (Ms. Hefflin, Ms. Jackie, Ms. Okane, Mr. Corbett, and Mr. Reevey) against Students (Ashlee’bea Jones, Johnathan Lilly, Joniah Stowers, Mya Swain, and Cynaijah Francois). We hope to see you all at the next event.

Mass Shooter Attacks Country Festival 64 year old Stephen Paddock became the latest mass murder in the United States after he opened fire on concert goers in Las Vegas. The Route 91 Country festival became a scene of chaos and terror as Stephen Paddock stood in his 32 floor hotel room and reigned down fired on unsuspecting party goers. After the bullets stopped flying the casualties in all were 59 dead and more than 500 injured. Among the dead was Stephen Paddock himself who took his own life as Police and SWAT were closing in on him. While inspecting his hotel room several guns were found on the scene including semi-automatic rifles, which had been altered to be fully automatic. Further police investigation into Paddock showed that he was a resident of Nevada and lived close by. When police raided his home they found guns, explosives, and chemicals that are used to create bombs. This is truly a sad situation that has occurred. A concert is supposed to be a place to relax and enjoy a good time, and not have to worry about being innocently gunned down. We should all that a minute and moment of silence to remember all those lives loss in this senseless act of terrorism. Written by Ty’Raya Kitchen

World/Local News Trump Travel Ban heats back up Early in his presidency Trump decided to put a travel ban on these eight countries: Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen. "Making America Safe is my number one priority. We will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet," Trump stated. Some people can still apply for green cards, visas, or travel documents that will not be revoked. The DHS says the President’s proclamation will keep us safer from terrorists. The Bride is Back The new Greenfield Bridge, scheduled to open next weekend, is no longer the bridge with a diaper. The old bridge got that nickname when Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works first hung nets off its arches to catch crumbling concrete, then built a secondary bridge across the Parkway East so that any debris that got through the net wouldn’t hit vehicles on the highway underneath. After two years and 17.5 Million dollars the bridge will be back up and running. The Greenfield Community Association is planning a “bridge is back” party for the community members living in Greenfield. Many people are excited to see the bridge back functioning as it will relive a lot of rush hour traffic through Oakland, Squirrel Hill, and to the Parkway. By. J. Benton & T. Kitchen

Hurricane Season in Full Effect

Scam Alert

By. Breanna Ewell

By T. Dotson & M. Hill

Hurricane Harvey which hit Texas was described as the most destructive hurricane since Wilma in 2005 to touchdown in the south causing massive damage to the state of Texas. A little over a week later another devastating hurricane, hurricane Maria destroyed much of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The combined damage from the two hurricanes, resulted in hundreds of people died, tens of thousands with property damage and hundreds of thousands without power and water. Where are these Hurricanes coming from? Is it global warming, is it Mother Nature? Arguments are being made from both sides one this. One thing is for sure, recovering from such devastation will take a large amount of time, money and effort from everyone.

There’s a new telephone scam that is hitting several parts of Pennsylvania that everyone should be on the lookout for. These scammers are calling people and demanding they pay money for back taxes and other court fees or else face being arrested by the federal courts. Many of the individuals called by these scammers have been elder or disabled individuals who are considered easy targets for their scams. “We’ve heard of a number of scams where people are impersonating government officials,” says Deputy Attorney General Jess Harvey. Harvey encourages anyone who may have had one of these calls to not just simply ignore the call but to report it to his office at scams@attorneygeneral.gov so they can take further look into things and hopefully prevent it from continuing to happen.

Sports and Clubs NFL Players Take a Stand against Trump Across the NFL there was a day of unity among players, coaches and owners. There were protest shown from virtually every NFL team during week three. The Raiders and Redskins game one of the “prime time” games was one that really stood out. The entire offensive line of the Oakland Raiders, the only line in the N.F.L. made up entirely of African-American players, was joined by virtually the entire team in kneeling or sitting during the national anthem before their game against the host Washington Redskins. It was one of the strongest visual displays of the many protests. Across the field, the Redskins along with their owner Daniel Snyder stood with linked arms as some players chose to kneel. Many fans at FedEx Field could be heard booing the players while they sat. NFL reporter, Michele Tafoya reported that Raiders Coach Jack Del Rio told her the Raiders players would have preferred to stay in the locker room, but because of the demands of prime-time television they would have likely incurred a delay of game penalty. The protests were part of a massive show of solidarity around the league in the face of harsh criticism by President Trump, who had called for protesting players to be fired. All Hype or All Ball . Lonzo Ball also known as zo was born October 27 1997. His basketball hype came in high school when he and his 2 younger brothers were putting up stats that other high school players or college players couldn’t do. The person responsible for giving him and his brothers all the hype was the man himself their father Lavar ball. Lonzo’s dad would tell any and everyone who listened that his sons are some of the greatest basketball players around. He proclaimed Lonzo the NBA’s best player already. Some people feel that Lavar is doing way too much hyping up of his sons which could put too much pressure on them to succeed. Others believe Lavar a former college basketball player himself is trying to relive his own life through his sons. In my opinion Lavar is just being a great dad supporting his sons to help them get the most out of their basketball talents. After being selected number 2 overall in this year’s NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, Lonzo now has to prove that he isn’t all hype and that his dad Lavar is correct in calling him one of the greatest players in the league. Lonzo is off to a great start as he was selected as NBA summer league MVP averaging a double double with points and assists. In my opinion Lonzo ball is going to be a great NBA player as long as he doesn’t let the pressure his dad is putting on him get to him. Written by Mikayla hall, Emoni Taylor

The Forgotten Dynasty While many people praise the New England Patriots, Golden state Warriors, and Pittsburgh Penguins for their dominance in their sport, there is a somewhat forgotten dominating team that deserves respect and recognition. That team is the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx just capped off the WNBA season by winning the championship. It’s 4th championship in 7 years. This year’s Lynx team which has 4 of the 5 oldest players in the entire league on it, was led by Mya Moore, Seimone Augustus, Sylvia Fowles, Rebekkah Brunson, and Lindsay Whalen to an 85-76 win over the LA Sparks. With the win Rebekkah Brunson became the only player in WNBA history with 5 championships. Sylvia Fowles, the finals MVP also set a WNBA record for most rebounds in a championship game with 20. This team has proven it belongs in the conversation for greatest sports teams and we salute their greatness. by E.Taylor

Babysitter written by Jade Pettus One day there was a 14 yr. old girl named Heather. Heather was just finishing up school and decided she wanted to get a job as a babysitter. One day Heather created signs for her new business. She stood on the sidewalk for an hour to hand out her signs, but nobody came and it was getting very dark. Jessica her mom came out and told Heather that it’s 6:45 pm and getting too dark to be out anymore. Disappointed at the turn out Heather went with her mother in the house and to bed. The next morning Heather’s mom yelled up to heather “HEATHER COME OUTSIDE NOW!” Heather came running outside to see a whole line of people at her house. Heather was confused to what was going on and asked, why are all these people here? One person asked, are you the girl that want to become a babysitter? Heather said yes, yes I do. Heather ran back into the house. Jessica asked her where she was going. Heather yelled back I have to get ready. As Heather was getting ready her mother helped Heather out by getting a sign in sheet for the parents to write their names, their child name, and contact information on. Heather came running back down stairs to see a living room full of kids. She asking her mom if she got all their contact information. Jessica said yes I did heather and now it’s all up to you. Good luck with your business. And that’s how Heather achieved her goal of being a babysitter The end
