UPEI’s long track record of delivering innovative, future-focused programming and conducting impactful research places the University in a prime position to establish a new Faculty of Medicine. UPEI aims to launch the new joint Doctor of Medicine degree in partnership with the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The new degree plans to bring together the strengths of both institutions in rural and family medicine, nursing, clinical psychology, and paramedicine. By leveraging UPEI’s existing programs of veterinary medicine, climate change and adaptation, and sustainable design engineering, the unique elements of One Health by its links to animal health and the environment can be achieved. The UPEI Faculty of Medicine aims to increase training opportunities for future family doctors and general specialists and support the medical career aspirations of Island youth.
