The year has flown by, and the Holidays are in full swing. Winter is playing with us in the Landing so will we have a balmy Christmas or more white stuff on the ground? Mother Nature will be sure to surprise us.
We are still a bit behind the power curve with the implementation of our new web page and billings. Please bear with us.
We are still in need of help on the board of directors. It is hard to plan events or projects with just a few people willing to put in the effort for the chamber and continue to run their businesses.
Don’t have the winter blues! You can help with our board or many other non-profits in town to chase them away. If you fly south for a short time, our board meets once a month in the winter and we are flexible so you can still serve.
It is the season of giving. Reach out to touch someone’s life, whether it be a monetary donation, food for the needy or your time to support the community.
Your chamber board wishes you and your family a year of prosperity, good health and happiness for the remainder of this year and 2025.
Thank you,
Cheryle James President

Cooper Landing Trails
We’re hoping the new Cooper Landing Trails website will be ready in time for snow trail grooming reports. Stand by for more information on that. We need more snow before the grooming can begin.
Recall that CLT won’t be allowed to groom the Russian River Campground again this winter due to construction scheduling for the improvements there. You may still snowshoe or ski in on your own once work there wraps up for the season.
CLT officers, David and Janette, continue to meet with Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) to work on how to advance our CLTRPPP. Most recently we hosted the GIS specialist for a site visit. For other details please see the notes of meetings posted on our website News page.

Cooper Landing Community Club
The elections are over, and the holidays are upon us! Once again, the hall became the hub of activity for residents to cast their votes and stay involved! Thank you to all the volunteers who made this possible! Those walls have housed so many events and are an important hub for our community, a special place for us all.
The Cooper Landing Community Club had our November meeting, and we said goodbye to Sandra Holsten, our member-at-large, and welcomed our new board, which was voted in. Sandra is a think tank of ideas, and has had the best interest of the community firmly in place, especially where our roads are concerned. Thank you, Sandra, for your energy and influence on the CLCC Board! Yvette Galbraith, Lorraine Temple, Rhonda Lynn, Kathy Lessard, and Marja Beltrami will carry the torch for the next year(s)!
Highlights from the meeting include a letter from State Troopers regarding a permanent post in Cooper Landing, Trails and Safe Trails Committee updates, information regarding the idea of a ‘biochar’ industry locally, more road maintenance concerns, a letter outlining concerns for ‘light pollution’ addressed to Three Bears, and showcasing a SCERP (Small Community Emergency Response Plan) that CLES has completed and submitted to the state for finalization. Knowing there is a toolkit in place during a disaster is comforting. If you would like the Zoom recording of the meeting, please email officers@ cooperlandingcommunityclub.com for the link.
We thank Jerry Neis, who is retiring from DOT, and his years of service keeping our roads in good shape, and sadly, Cooper Landing has lost one of our finest. Jan Mitchell leaves us all with a better place to call ‘home’ with all her service, smiles, and loving energy. As Mona Painter shared, “Jan Mitchell was a vital part of the community, and she will be deeply missed.” With that, a candle that burned during the meeting in her honor was extinguished, and the meeting was over. However, Jan remains shining brightly in our hearts forever.
Happy Holidays from the Cooper Landing Community Club Board~

Cooper Landing Lynx News
Dear Families and Friends,
The Coooper Landing School and Parent Advisory Committee are requesting support to help us finance the cost of the Cooper Landing School K-12 physical education ski program. We have three fundraising events happening now-- the Holiday Swags, the Christmas Dinner Theater, and our Merchandise Fundraiser. Since its induction in 2007, the program has been significant to the students physical and mental health, including social skills. As a small school with no sports being offered in the school, this is the only chance some of the children have to participate in a sport.
The program includes 6 days of skiing at Alyeska Resort. Each day includes a two hour ski lesson and chaperoned skiing for the rest of the day. The program covers ski rentals, lift tickets, and lesson costs for every student at the Cooper Landing School.
Alyeska Resort recently more than doubled the cost per student for this program, which has left us scrambling to cover the additional amount needed. We are aiming to $6000.00 to be able to continue the ski program. Thank you for your support!
Light Up The Landing
Join us in brightening up Cooper Landing this winter by decorating the outside of your home or work with festive holiday lights. Let’s bring the community together by lighting up the darkest time of year with fun-filled light attractions. White light or multi-colored light displays are welcomed and encouraged. Add a figurine reindeer, inflatable Santa, or go all out with a choreographed light show. Use your imagination and join in on the fun November 26th through February 14th.
Museum Christmas Open House
You are invited to the 21st Annual Cooper Landing Historical Society and Museum‘s Christmas Open House on December 14 from 10 AM to 4 PM. There will be all kinds of goodies to eat, and to buy, the wood stove fire will be crackling, the Christmas tree lights glowing, and Kate will have Treasures for sale on the big table that was donated to the Museum 20 years ago by CLES. The calendars are $15 and we are selling them now as well as at the open house.
Contact Mona at 907 202-6049 or monapainter@me.com with any questions.

Stay Visible When You Bike and Walk
Did you know? In Alaska’s dark winters, your choice of clothing can be a lifesaver. Here’s a startling fact:
Drivers can only see someone walking in dark clothing from 55 feet away. But with reflective materials? That distance jumps to 500 feet!
That’s why we’ve teamed up with the Center for Safe Alaskans to provide you with free reflective tape, available at the library.
Tips for using the reflective tape:
1. Cut reflective tape into smaller pieces to maximize use.
2. Stick it on clean, dry surfaces.
3. Add it to winter gear, backpacks, bikes, helmets, wheelchairs and even dog leashes.
4. Place tape to outline your shape and highlight moving parts like sleeves and pant legs.
Need more? Order additional tape directly from the Center for Safe Alaskans: https://safealaskans.org/reflectivetape/ Let’s shine bright and stay safe this winter, Alaska!
How you can help our library:
Our library provides invaluable services to the community. In addition to book and movie checkouts, we provide an online catalog, access to the Alaska Digital Library, internet, and up-to-date computers, printers, and fax for public use.
•Volunteer! Email Virginia at cooperlandinglibrary@gmail.com if you would like to contribute time. We are always looking for volunteers to work a regular shift, substitute, and/or provide expertise and service in specialized areas, such as accounting or information technology.
•Donate! Checks can be mailed to Cooper Landing Community Library, PO Box 517, Cooper Landing, AK 99572. You can also donate directly at the library or online through our website, cooperlandinglibrary.com, by clicking the donate button at the bottom of the page.
We look forward to seeing you in the library soon!
