UU AMONGST 6 SCHOOLS FORMING NEW NCAA D-II CONFERENCE CEDARVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 17, 2011) - Presidents of the newly formed athletic conference, featuring 6 NCAA Division II colleges and universities from Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio, have announced the conference will be named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The six member institutions include: Cedarville University (Cedarville, Ohio); Central State University (Wilberforce, Ohio); Kentucky Wesleyan College (Owensboro, Kentucky); Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, Tenn.); Urbana University (Urbana, Ohio); and Ursuline College (Pepper Pike, Ohio). The new conference will begin competition in the fall of 2013, pending approval from the NCAA. The G-MAC would become the NCAA's 24th Division II conference. Currently Kentucky Wesleyan holds membership in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Urbana and Central State are associate members in the GLVC for football only, and the other three Ohio schools currently compete as Division II independents. The Presidents issued a joint statement saying, "The Great Midwest Athletic Conference reflects the membership of similar institutions with parallel academic and athletic philosophies and resources. The geographical reference in the Conference's name represents the connection to NCAA Division II's Midwest region." The league administrators have been working diligently to create the structure needed to form a conference that will be desirable to other Midwest regional colleges and universities with similar philosophies. Expansion beyond the original six will be a priority moving forward. The CEO's added, "We believe the G-MAC will become the model NCAA Division II conference with our principal focus on the student-athlete experience - including academic success, social development, athletic performance, and character development."

YOUTH, NEW LEADERSHIP TAKE CHARGE
OF
BLUE KNIGHTS
URBANA, Ohio (November 9, 2011) - For the first time in almost two decades, the Urbana University women's basketball program is under new leadership. Gone are legendary Head Coach Rob Phillips and his 537 collegiate wins. Replacing him is long-time assistant Tray Huntsman. Huntsman worked alongside Phillips for each of the past five seasons, so the transition should be as seamless as possible. However, after 17 years of Phillips patrolling courtside at Urbana basketball games, a period of adjustment is expected while the team adapts to its new leadership. On the court, Urbana is also experiencing a major shift of leadership. Five seniors from last year's team have graduated, taking nearly 70% of the offense with them. All that remains are 2 starters and 5 total players with any varsity experience. The team captains this season are a junior and two sophomores. For the first time in over a decade, there isn't a single senior on the squad. All of this uncertainty is new to a program that experienced more success than any other over the last two decades at Urbana. The Blue Knights won 20 or more games four times under Phillips, averaging 16 wins a season since he took over in 1994. Coach Huntsman maintains that the program's goals won't change on his clock. "As always, we want to maintain a team GPA of 3.0 or higher in the classroom, and we want to win at least 16 games this season. We expect to have a winning season and end the year with a Championship," asserts Huntsman.
SEASON OUTLOOK
Playing in the NCAA D-II Independent post-season tournament for the first time last season, the Blue Knights finished a disappointing fourth. Despite a roster upheaval and turnover at the top, Huntsman and the Blue Knights have their eye on a championship in that February tournament. Leading the way will be team captains Andrea Vogel (Bluffton, IN), DeVonyea Johnson (Ypsilanti, MI) and Jackie Cousineau (Olivet, MI). Vogel is a two-year starter at center for the Blue Knights. The 6-2 junior is a two-time All-Independent selection. She's averaged 10 points and nearly 7 rebounds and 2 blocks a contest over her two-year career. "Andrea also leads by example on and off the court," explains Huntsman. "She's also improved in the weight room, increasing her bench by 33%. I expect her to dominate the post offensively and defensively, and I sincerely believe Andrea can average a double-double in points and boards this season." Johnson and Cousineau were both named to the All-Independent Freshman Team as rookie guards last season. Early in her first year, Johnson established herself as a vocal floor general. She led the team in assists, while pouring in 8 points a game on 43% shooting. Cousineau came off the bench to score 4 points per game on 35% shooting from behind the arc, but her specialty was perimeter defense. Adds Huntsman, "DeVonyea has been a lot more vocal this preseason. She's very intelligent for her age and as the starting point guard and floor general, I expect her to be an extension of me on the court." "Jackie has earned the starting role of shooting guard. She is one of the best shooters and on-the-ball defenders on the team. We are a defensive-minded team, and Jackie's primary responsibility is to set the tone for our defense with her ball pressure." Urbana's only other experienced varsity returners include junior guard Nora Boerger (Milford Center, OH) and sophomore post Tiffany Parks (Franklin, OH). Together, the duo averaged less than 14 minutes of court time a season ago, but both may be counted on to play larger roles on a young squad. Newcomers who may contribute immediately include Jessica Saffold (Bedford, OH), Ciara Geiger (Ft. Wayne, IN), Katy Barkley (Olivet, MI), and Stephanie Lock (White Lake, MI). Saffold had to sit out a year after transferring to Urbana a year ago from Cuyahoga Community College. Huntsman expects the 5-9 junior guard/forward to create serious match-up problems for opposing teams. "Jess has come back focused and ready to do whatever it takes to win. She's an absolute beast on the boards. She's too big and too strong for opposing guards, and she's too quick for forwards. Jess has earned her way into the starting line up. I expect big things out of her this season." Geiger and Barkley will provide depth in a loaded backcourt. The freshmen guards bring different styles to the court. According to Huntsman, "Geiger is an impact player who immediately set the tone for what's expected of a Lady Blue Knight. An extreme competitor, Ciara has the ability to embarrass opponents with her crafty ball handling. Barkley is an amazing role player. She does all the little things in a big way. With her non-stop hustle, she's possibly the hardest working player on the team. She also possesses a great mid-range jumper, and she's a top-notch ball defender." Lock is a freshman post looking to make an instant impact on the boards. Her strength and presence in the post will give the Blue Knights another solid defender and rebounder down low. Entering his first season as head coach, Huntsman will try to keep his message simple for a team filled with youth and uncertainty. "My message to the team is 'offense sells tickets, but defense wins games,' and if we rebound and take care of the ball, we're capable of winning championships."

HEAD COACH TRAY HUNTSMAN CENTRAL STATE UNIVERSITY, ‘98 EMAIL: THUNTSMAN@URBANA.EDU PHONE: 937.484.1392 On September 30th, 2011, Urbana University Athletic Director Doug Young announced that long-time assistant Tray Huntsman had been promoted to Head Women's Basketball Coach. Huntsman takes over the helm for Rob Phillips, who announced his resignation after 18 years in the position. "We are very excited to have a coach of Tray's caliber taking over the reins of our program," said Young. "Tray has been very dedicated to our team and its players for a long time now. He is certainly deserving of the opportunity to assume this leadership role." For the past five years, Huntsman worked alongside Phillips as an assistant coach. He joined the program in 2006 and made an immediate impact. In his first season, the Blue Knights improved their win total by nine. With Huntsman on the bench as an assistant, Urbana won an average of 15 games a season. The team posted a .543 win percentage and posted three straight winning seasons during the transition to NCAA Division II.
In addition to his work on the bench and in the gym, Huntsman was also involved as an advisor to Urbana's chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He will continue his role as a major facilitator for the FCA.
HEAD COACH
"I have taught close to every level of basketball, from elementary, to middle school, high school, AAU, NAIA and now at the Division II level," explained Huntsman upon his promotion. "I believe that I am not only a high-quality coach, but even more importantly, a first-class instructor of the game of basketball. I feel that my vast variety of experience has prepared me to successfully lead my own program. I am fair, upfront and honest with my players and parents. I have high expectations for myself as well for my players."
Upon his resignation, Phillips offered Huntsman his full endorsement: "It gives me a great amount of peace to have Coach Huntsman succeed me as head coach. Tray has been an incredible assistant for the past five years. He has comprehensive knowledge of the game of basketball and a passion for the sport. More importantly, he has a heart for the student-athletes and their overall well-being. Coach Huntsman will enrich the lives of the student-athletes under his care. He also has a great sense of community and will undoubtedly keep team involved on campus and the city of Urbana. I'm excited for Tray and the team, and I find great comfort personally knowing that the tradition that is the Urbana University women's basketball program will continue to grow under his leadership." Prior to coming to Urbana, Huntsman spent seven years as an assistant coach and a head coach in the Urbana High School and Junior High basketball programs. He also taught in the school system during that time. Most recently, he worked as a probation officer for Clark County Youth Services. Originally from Los Angeles, California, Huntsman came to Ohio after being offered the Presidential Scholarship to Central State University. Huntsman graduated from CSU with a bachelor of science in industrial engineering in 1998. Currently, Huntsman resides in Urbana. He has two children; a son, Trayveion II (13), and a daughter, Victoria (11).

GRADUATE ASSISTANT HALEY DUCEY Haley Ducey joined the Urbana coaching staff as a graduate assistant soon after completing her fouryear career as a Blue Knight in 2011. After sitting out her freshman season with a knee injury, Ducey went on to complete one of the most successful three-year runs as a player in school history. She finished with 755 career points in 82 games for the Royal Blue and White. Despite playing just three seasons, she finished 12th all-time in career assists (215), 6th in career 3-point percentage (33.8%), and 1st in career free throw percentage (89.2%). Urbana averaged over 15 wins a season during Ducey's career, and twice the team captain earned NCAA D-II All-Independent honors. A leader on the court and in the classroom, Ducey was a regular on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. She's currently working towards her MBA after receiving her undergraduate degree in sports management. Prior to coming to Urbana, Ducey was a standout prep star at Ottawa-Glandorf High School. She started 72 consecutive games for the Titans, averaging 12.4 points per game and earning All-Ohio honors in 2007.

OF
A THLETICS
On behalf of the entire Urbana University family, I would like to welcome you to our website and the home of Blue Knight athletics. Urbana University is proud to sponsor 15 athletic programs in one of the most beautiful geographic locations in the nation. Although athletics is an integral part of our campus environment, it is the pride that we take in the development of the total person that we find most rewarding. With so many college choices available to students today, I am often asked, "Why is Urbana University the right place for me?" Most often, my answer is that the core attribute of NCAA Division II athletics, known as "Life in Balance", is carried out and practiced in all that we do. At Urbana University it is universally accepted that all students and employees are equipped with a unique skill set of strengths and weaknesses. We constantly seek to accentuate those strengths and nurture those weaknesses in an effort to form a collective unified body of positive results. Our campus-wide slogan of "One Student at a Time" confirms our commitment to knowing each individual on a personal basis. It's what makes success a reality and not merely just a dream at Urbana University. Spearheaded by our move to the NCAA, we have created a culture of life in balance. This is not merely an athletics-only initiative but one that permeates our entire campus. The core attributes of life in balance are learning, service, passion, sportsmanship, and resourcefulness. Together, these attributes form a collective bond for all that call Urbana University home. As our campus continues to grow, it is done with the constant mindset to provide more opportunities for student development and increased success. All the while it has provided the very foundation for school spirit, pride, and a will to achieve the very best for our student-athletes. To be a Blue Knight student-athlete is to be a part of something truly unique and special. I am confident that you, as a student-athlete, alumni, colleague, or friend of Urbana University, will find your time here to be one of the most rewarding, meaningful portions of your life. If you haven't already, you will soon discover that working together works wonders here at Urbana University. Success for ourselves is found in each other. We invite you to become a valued part of a grand tradition and a unique story of success for yourself and all those that surround you.
PERSONNEL
Best wishes in all that you do, and GO BLUE KNIGHTS!

UU Hall of Fame to Induct Former Basketball Stars Boysel & McBride in February Induction ceremony to take place after UU’s home basketball doubleheader on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 URBANA, Ohio (July 12, 2011) - Today, a pair of Blue Knight athletic pioneers were announced as the 34th and 35th selections to be inducted into the Urbana University Athletic Hall of Fame. Seventies standouts Brian Boysel and Mary (Jenkins) McBride will be honored and enshrined together during an induction ceremony on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 after a Blue Knight men's and women's basketball doubleheader. Dave Ross, a 1976 graduate of Urbana and current University Trustee and Hall of Fame Chairman, administered the nomination and selection process. "Both Brian and Mary were nominated just this year, and we thought it was a good fit to induct them together," explained Ross. "We anticipate a large group of 1970's alumni attending the induction." Unlike past inductions, which have taken place after the Homecoming football game, this year's ceremony was shifted to the Blue Knights basketball season in order to spotlight Boysel and McBride's contributions on the court during a time of tremendous growth for the Urbana athletic programs.
"Brian was a great player who came up big in big games," remembers Ross. "We were impressed that he returned to UU to finish his degree in 2004, which also made him eligible for a Hall of Fame nomination." McBride, a 1978 graduate, enrolled at Urbana during the developmental stages of women's athletics at the college. As a freshman, she played for some of the first volleyball and women's basketball teams to don the Royal Blue and White. When the athletic department added softball in 1976, McBride joined that team as well, becoming one of the first females to earn three varsity letters during a single school year. In all, the Ansonia native earned ten varsity letters at Urbana before graduating with a degree in education. She later taught and coached at Triad and Tri-Valley High Schools in Ohio, as well as Brighton High School in Colorado. Before retiring from coaching in 1998, McBride compiled a 240-73 overall record as a varsity volleyball coach at Triad and Brighton. Ross adds, "Mary was one of the school's first successful multi-sport student-athletes during the early years of Urbana women's intercollegiate athletics. After graduation, she enjoyed a fine career in both teaching and coaching."
2011-12 HALL OF FAME
Boysel was a three-year starter at forward for the Blue Knights during the mid '70s. Under future UU Hall of Fame coach Bob Cawley, Boysel excelled on the court. As a senior, Boysel averaged better than 20 points per game to go along with nearly seven rebounds per contest. The 6'3" Greenon High School product led the team in shooting, knocking down nearly 55% of his attempts from the field. He ended his career fifth, and still remains 14th on Urbana's all-time scoring list with 1,419 points. After his playing career ended at Urbana, Boysel left for a full-time position at Grimes Manufacturing, where he has remained for 32 years. In 2002, Boysel returned to Urbana University, changed his major and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business in 2004.
The induction of Brian Boysel and Mary (Jenkins) McBride will take place following a Blue Knights' men's and women's basketball doubleheader on Saturday, February 4th, 2012. The women's team will take on Lindenwood University at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men's game against Malone University at 3:00 p.m. The induction ceremony is scheduled to begin about 30 minutes after the men's game in the Urbana University Student Center. If you know someone who you believe would make an excellent candidate for future consideration for the Urbana University Hall of Fame, visit the school's athletic website at sports.urbana.edu for more information on the nomination process.
