BLUE KNIGHT HEAD COACH LAUREN LEWICKI
Urbana University Athletic Director Doug Young announced the hiring of a new Blue Knight women's soccer head coach Lauren Lewicki in December of 2010. Lewicki becomes the fourth head coach in the program's 13-year history. "We were thrilled to find someone as enthusiastic and motivated as Lauren to lead our women's soccer program," said Young. "I am confident Lauren will thrive as a first-time head coach at our University." Lewicki comes to Urbana from Defiance College, where she served as both an assistant on the men's and women's soccer teams. As a first-year assistant coach for the women's team in 2009, Lewicki guided the Yellow Jackets to a DC Classic Tournament title, and saw two of her players earn allconference recognition. For the men, Lewicki served primarily as a goalkeeper's coach, a position she excelled at playing for NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit University. At WJU, Lewicki was a three-time team captain. She led the Cardinals to a 59-26 record during her career, including a trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament in 2005. Along with being a three-time all-conference performer, Lewicki earned all-regional status in 2005 and was tabbed an NCAA Scholar Athlete in 2008. "I'm really excited to begin my career as a head coach at Urbana," Lewicki explained. "I believe the University and I are at similar stages of development. Urbana is new to Division II, and we're both growing. I feel like the sky's the limit for this program." The Erie, Pa., native began her coaching career working with teams at the high school and club soccer levels. She also served as a student assistant for the Cardinals in 2006 while she was sidelined due to injury. Lewicki graduated from Wheeling Jesuit in 2008 with a degree in respiratory therapy and a minor in psychology. She recently completed a Masters of Arts in Education with a Coaching Concentration at Defiance.
GRADUATE ASSISTANT SARAH SHOPE Sarah Shope returns to Urbana University in 2011 as a second-year graduate assistant for the Blue Knight women’s soccer team. Shope was a 3-year varsity starter at defender for the Blue Knights from 2004-06. She transferred to Urbana from the University of Findlay. Twice, she served as team captain, and twice she received All-AMC honors. The Dayton-native was named the Blue Knights’ MVP in 2004. She landed Best Defender accolades in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and she was named the team’s best returning player in 2006. Sarah is the sister of Kristen Shope, a 4-year starting defender and 2007 NAIA All-American at Urbana. Shope graduated from Urbana with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science in May of 2007. She has worked as a personal trainer since that time, and she also received her certification as a strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
