Through a culturally sensitive curriculum and ongoing training and support, NAUEP is becoming one of the fastest growing professional associations for urban etiquette professionals.

INTRODUCTION

Certified Etiquette Instructors Certified Etiquette Instructors provide etiquette instruction for participants of churches, schools, businesses, and community organizations who are seeking to increase their social skills and knowledge. Those individuals seeking to run their own etiquette business have a rare opportunity to meet a growing demand for etiquette instruction in the urban community. Common etiquette rules have diminished in society, and in the urban community, rules that were always obeyed but never spoken have been slowly losing their regard. Social class is not the focus of this curriculum, instead it is much more focused on the practical skills needed for urban youth to increase their self-esteem, feel comfortable in all types of social settings, and reach their full potential. NAUEP contracts with Certified Etiquette Instructors to provide classes for youth participation in local agencies by providing booking opportunities and National training support to NAUEP Certified Etiquette Instructors. In addition to contracting with NAUEP, Etiquette Instructors also have the opportunity to grow their consulting business by building relationships and conducting classes.

NAUEP Certified Etiquette Instructor Consultant POSITION: NAUEP Certified Etiquette Instructor REPORTS TO: National Etiquette Director RESPONSIBILITIES:  Responsible for conducting etiquette workshops in schools, churches and community organizations in their local community.  Responsible for completing monthly payment vouchers.  Responsible for presenting yourself in a public setting in a professional manner.  Responsible for submitting photos, bios and reports to the national office detailing program participation and effectiveness.  Responsible for continuing etiquette training and development of social etiquette skills.  Represent NAUEP during media interviews, and in the public. TIME REQUIRED: Flexible  Participate in the Etiquette Instructor Certification.  Presentation time is 2 ½ hours.  Includes weekdays, evenings, and weekends depending on scheduling.  Additional program activities may require additional time. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:  Must be able to work with all levels of the public.  Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Must be a strong leader and have some supervisory background.  Must work will with girls and teens.  Must have excellent public speaking and organizational skills.  Sales Experience.

NAUEP Etiquette Workshop Goals and Objectives The NAUEP Etiquette Workshops have three core goals. Specific objectives for each of these goals are as follows:

Goal 1: To increase basic etiquette knowledge Specific objectives are to increase students’ basic knowledge of etiquette, its meaning as well as applications. At the conclusion, students will be able to walk away with an awareness of basic social etiquette.

Goal 2: To Improve self-esteem Low self-esteem is the fundamental reason girls get involved in at-risk behavior. Building the self-esteem of young women is the fundamental objective of the urban etiquette initiative. Students will be able to adapt in all types of settings and therefore, feel more favorable about themselves.

Bringing “Urban Swag,” to Etiquette

Goal 3: To increase social development Specific objectives are to increase community awareness and involvement, and also to change self-focused behavior into community concern and participation due to increased confidence in different types of social settings.

NAUEP is unique in that it includes domestic etiquette instruction while integrating a sensitivity to the urban culture.

HISTORY OF ETIQUETTE Etiquette Origin

Etiquette did not begin in America, but as many U.S. customs do it began in Europe. Originally it was developed to help society live together peaceably. Between 1500 and the 1900’s students actually took a class on etiquette as a part of their curriculum. Students learned basic manners, proper behavior and responses to those in authority and much more. Where does the actual word “etiquette” derive? “King Louis XIV had drawn up a daily function, giving time, place and proper dress. It was posted at Versailles as an “etiquette” (spelled with an accent on the first e) – a French word meaning “ticket” – to help the nobles know what to do. It brought order to court society, and the code of behavior was adopted by the courts of other nation’s monarchs.” (Source: The World Book Encyclopedia, 2000) The idea of etiquette goes back to a time when people wanted to live together harmoniously. Because they were establishing communities and living in groups, standards of behavior became crucial.
