HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH Ashwini Vaishnav takes charge of new Railway Minister of India Former bureaucrat Ashwini Vaishnaw took charge of the new Railway Ministry in Indian Government on July 8, 2021. He was inducted into the Central Government cabinet recently and has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Railways. Along with the Railways, he has also been given the charge of the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications. Vaishnav has been made minister at a time when various ways are being considered to increase the income of the Railways. It also includes the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Maha Metro to implement Metro Neo Transit System for Nashik and Warangal Metro Neo is an innovative transport system, which will be implemented for the first time in India in Nasik by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro). The detailed project report (DPR) of Nasik Metro Neo, prepared by Maha Metro, is awaiting clearance from the Union Cabinet (Govt. of India). Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) had asked Maha Metro to prepare the DPR of Warangal Metro. Now, Mysore is also working on feasibility of Metro Neo system in the city.
One Mumbai Metro Card launched to ensure seamless commute for Mumbaikars Axis Bank, Mumbai Metro and Master Card have launched ‘One Mumbai Metro Card’, to ensure contactless and cashless travel for Mumbaikars. It is a prepaid, openloop contactless card that can be used as a part of the daily transit journey with just a tap. This is a card that can be used for all daily purchases from food, groceries, medicines as well as tickets.
Delhi Metro appointed private operator to run trains on Yellow Line Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) has deployed 243 private train operators to operate its trains on 49.39 km Yellow Line (Samaypur Badli – HUDA City Centre). These operators have received training from the Delhi Metro Academy and will work under administrative control of private agency JMD Consultant Pvt. Ltd. It is being told that DMRC has taken this step due to the financial crisis. With this, DMRC will not have to appoint train drivers on a permanent basis.
