DID YOU KNOW...
Some of Sydney’s most talented chefs will also unite at Tropfest, dishing up everything from soul food to Taiwanese-style dumplings. Popular Newtown restaurant Miss Peaches will delight with favourites such as shrimp gumbo, crawfish pies and tobacco-smoked chicken wings, all washed down with housemade sarsaparilla and ginger beer; Darlinghurst bar Lo-Fi will keep the cool cocktails coming; Johnny Wong’s Dumpling Bar will dish up signature buns, dumplings and pancakes; and The Vic on the Park will ensure you never go thirsty, serving craft beers and bar snacks.
Miss Peaches
Past judges of Tropfest have included Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Geoffrey Rush, Russell Crowe and Samuel L Jackson. The Tropfest competition is now held in 5 territories around the world: Australia, North America, Arabia, South East Asia and New Zealand! Tropfest started accidently when in 1993, John Polson wanted to show a short film he’d made to family and friends, and over 200 people showed up! Today, it is seen by 100,000 people live at event and an enormous national and international audience via the SBS broadcast. The event takes its name from Sydney’s Tropicana Café, where it was launched by John Polson in 1993.
Mobility parking will also be available. Contact Tropfest on 8011 0290 for more information.
COMING BY BICYCLE? Centennial Parklands is cycle friendly, and a comfortable riding distance from the city, inner west or eastern suburbs of Sydney. Bike racks and a free and secure bike valet service will be available at the event. Head to sydneycycleways.net to find the right route for you.
LISTEN
Live bands will entertain crowds throughout the day and musical talent will also be celebrated through APRA Tropscore, a competition to create a musical score for a short film.
PLAY
When you’re not being entertained by the world’s most talented filmmakers and musicians, check out the activities in the Tropfest village – see map.
