Since he has become a dentist, Dr. Breiterman has completed more than 3,000 hours of education, averaging more than 100 hours of continuing education each year. He has also earned the title of Master of the Academy of General Dentistry and has received a Lifelong Service and Recognition award for the hours he has dedicated to his community through dentistry.

To make his office even more comfortable, he offers sedation and anesthesia for patients who may be anxious about going to the dentist. He also provides patients with in-office calming treatments such as hot towels, handwarmers, and headphones for an even more relaxing experience.

Dr. Romano has participated in more than a thousand hours of continued education courses, even though the state only mandates 40 hours every two years. S’mores Popcorn

Giada De Laurentiis knows what kind of treats appeal to all ages. Her s’mores popcorn is the perfect mix of sweet and salty to satisfy any foodie.

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/2 cup popcorn kernels

2 tablespoons butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon salt

5 graham crackers, processed to fine crumbs (about 1/2 cup)

1 cup mini marshmallows

1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips, melted

DIRECTIONS

1. Heat a large saucepan over high heat for 3 minutes. Add the oil and the popcorn kernels, and cover the pan with a lid. Cook, shaking the pan frequently, until you begin to hear popping. Cook on high for 1 minute more, then lower the heat to medium and continue cooking, shaking the pan, until the popping begins to slow down.

2. Turn off the heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl. Toss with the melted butter, salt and graham cracker crumbs. Add the marshmallows and toss again. Spread the mixture out on a parchment-lined baking sheet and drizzle with the chocolate. Toss gently to incorporate. Set aside until the chocolate hardens, about 1 hour. Store in an airtight container.

Chocolate Shortbread with White Chocolate Sauce

This sweet white chocolate sauce is the perfect companion to Alex Guarnaschelli’s chocolate shortbread cookies. Enjoy once they are fresh out of the oven for warm chocolatey goodness!

INGREDIENTS

Cookies:

1 ounce bittersweet chocolate

2 ounces semisweet chocolate

1 cup unsalted butter, softened, plus a little extra for greasing the baking sheet

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 cups all-purpose flour

Sauce:

3/4 cup heavy cream

8 ounces white chocolate, chopped or shaved into small pieces

1/2 cup sour cream, preferably at room temperature

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

2. In a small metal bowl, combine the 2 types of chocolate and melt them gently over a pot of simmering water or a double boiler. Cool chocolate to room temperature.

3. Make the shortbread dough: In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, combine the butter and sugar. Blend until smooth and “creamed,” 3 to 5 minutes. Mix in the cooled melted chocolate.

4. Sift the flour and add to the butter mixture and blend on low speed to incorporate the flour. Do not over mix. Remove the dough from the bowl and refrigerate for a few minutes to chill.

5. Make the chocolate sauce: In a medium-sized pot, bring the cream to a gentle simmer. Remove the pot from the heat and whisk in the white chocolate pieces. Allow the mixture to sit and cool for a minute. All of the white chocolate should easily melt into the cream. Whisk in the sour cream and taste for seasoning. Cook’s Note: Sour cream is temperamental when heated, so take care that your mixture never gets overly hot. If so, cool a little before incorporating. Set aside at room temperature.

6. Press the shortbread dough evenly into a 9 by 13 by 1-inch greased non-stick baking pan. Place in the center of the oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the dough is fairly firm to the touch. Remove from the oven and allow the shortbread to cool for about 10 minutes. Cut into 12 rectangles, 4 by 2 inches, and then cut diagonally across rectangles to form 24 long triangles for good dipping.

7. Arrange shortbread wedges on a tray with the white chocolate sauce in a bowl for dipping.

This acid eats away at the enamel, forming a hole that turns into a cavity. To prevent this, don’t forget to brush twice a day, floss and rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash.

ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSHES ARE BETTER AT REDUCING PLAQUE FACT

Though one is not wholly better than the other, recent studies show that the oscillation and vibration of an electric toothbrush reduce dental plaque 21 percent more than a manual toothbrush.
