For more extensive cases, they use their Fotona Laser, a complete laser dentistry tool used to perform anything from gum surgery to repairing implant defects alongside their availability to provide Plasma-rich-Protein (PRP) Surgery. As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Jin has installed state-of-the-art UV extra-oral evacuation devices in every operatory. He also equipped the hallways and lobby area with UV-air purifiers. In addition, Dr. Jin offers on-site rapid COVID tests for his patients.

“Patients deserve to understand their health and the treatment options,” says Dr. Laurence C. Breiterman. “That is why we dedicate a lot of time and resources toward comprehensive care. From the first phone call, we work on understanding clients’ short- and long-term goals and work with them to build a plan to achieve them.”

Dr. Breiterman’s thousands of hours of additional training translate to a full slate of services. From the latest generation of same-day crowns and 3D scanning, to bone and tissue grafting and laser-assisted periodontal treatments, he takes advantage of the latest technology to provide successful and comfortable treatment options.

“Many of our patients come to us for large restorative cases. Because we treat their complicated cases and offer services like sedation or anxiety management, we provide care even if the patient has avoided the dentist for years. Our extensive services allow patients to have their full case completed in our office, without being referred to many specialists. When they are finished, most are no longer fearful and tell us how elated they are with their smiles.”

One of today’s most requested dental procedures is dental implantation and restoration. Dr. Breiterman has more than 30 years of experience in

this area and a success rate above 99 percent. Platelet-rich-fibrin (PRF) therapy can be combined with bone grafting, tissue grafting, sinus lifts and other surgical treatments to enhance tissue regeneration.

“These extra steps require more technology, time, skill and training than a basic implant procedure,” he says, “but for our patients, it’s worth the investment to get superior results.”

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Advanced Dental Techniques has adjusted its schedule to reduce the number of people in the office at one time. Besides screening all incoming patients, barrier protection has been added in the reception area and systems are in place to reduce exposure. The office has used the IQAir filtration system for more than 10 years, but has since added Surgically Clean Air purifiers with UV filtration in each operatory.

“Because our infection control standards have traditionally been well above what is required, the changes needed were easily incorporated into our office with little impact on the comfortable and relaxing patient experience we deliver,” says Dr. Breiterman.

Dr. Breiterman believes in giving back to the community. He restores the smiles of victims of domestic violence through the Give Back A Smile program and volunteers his office for the NJ Give Kids A Smile free dental access day.

Social Media Safety

SCROLLING THROUGH FEEDS, POSTING PHOTOS and interacting with people from all around the globe has become a normal, everyday activity for the younger generation. If your child is on social media, you may wonder: “What can I do to keep them protected from potential online dangers?” Here are some helpful tips that can help you keep your children safe while using social media.

FOLLOW APPLICATION AGE REQUIREMENTS

Many of the top social media platforms that are popular among the younger generation, such as Instagram, Twitter and TikTok, all require users to be 13 years or older before signing up for an account. While creating an account underage goes against these sites’ terms of service, there are times that younger children make their way onto the platforms. You can keep a proactive watch on your children, who fall below this age range to ensure they’re not downloading these apps to their devices and signing up for an account prior to age 13.

If your child is younger than 13, but insists on using social media, look into platforms that offer experiences catered to younger kids, such as TikTok for Younger Users. This experience prohibits commenting, sharing videos, messaging or maintaining a profile or followers. According to the company’s safety guidelines, TikTok for Younger Users provides “a viewing experience that does not permit sharing of personal information and puts extensive limitations on content and user interaction.” Some other apps to explore are Messenger Kids and GeckoLife. Experiences like these could help appease your child’s craving to be online, while also giving you peace of mind that they’re doing so safely.

MAKE SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS PRIVATE

If your child is 13 years or older and has already created a social media account, look into privatizing their account. Most platforms offer the option to make accounts “private,” which means only people who are approved followers of the user can view their profile. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok all offer a private option for users. Here’s how you can make profiles private for each of the above platforms:

• Facebook: Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Privacy > Edit each setting by clicking ‘Edit’

• Instagram: Go to Settings > Privacy > Toggle on the Private Account option

• Twitter: Go to Settings and Privacy

> Privacy and Safety > Audience and Tagging > Check the box next to Protect Your Tweets

• TikTok: Go to Profile > Three line icon > Privacy > Turn on Private Account option

Once you privatize your child’s profile, sit them down and have a conversation about only approving requests from people they know and the potential dangers of accepting requests from those they don’t. The Department of Justice also suggests that you “establish clear guidelines, teach children to spot red flags, and encourage children to have open communication with you.” You should also explain what is appropriate to share online and what isn’t (for example, not to share their current location, their home address, their phone number, etc.) Enforcing this combination of tips can help create a safer online presence for your child.

REVIEW THE RESOURCES

Most platforms, like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, offer additional resources for parents, which detail all of the safety features each platform offers. Reading these guidelines thoroughly can help you further understand what can and cannot be done to keep your children safe while using the application. Below are the names of each platform’s resource, so you can Google it to access:

Besides the above helpful tips, you can also read the Department of Justice’s “Keeping Children Safe Online” forum, which offers additional advice and resources to protect your child online. If you see any online activity that may be putting your child in harm’s way, the Department of Justice also provides steps to correctly report it.

Buying a Vehicle –What’s Happening Now

EVEN A CASUAL OBSERVER OF TODAY’S news has heard or read about the shortages of new and pre-owned vehicle inventory at automobile dealerships. The root causes range from the worldwide effects of COVID-19 on commuter travel to computer chip shortages. Unless you’ve been in the market for a new or used vehicle, these reports probably haven’t registered with you. According to the Consumer Price Index, the price of a used car has gone up nearly 40% since March 2020. If you are in the market for a vehicle, my research has revealed information that could help you navigate the choppy waters of the present auto sales marketplace.

I started my investigation on a few auto manufacturer web sites. Most automakers offer prospective customers the ability to check inventory at dealerships across the country. What I learned was that luxury vehicle makers, as well as middle-market manufacturers, showed similar information — low inventory. Exploring various models at a few sites, I discovered that most were tagged with the description “In Transit”. I followed up my cyber shopping with calls to sales managers at local dealerships and learned just how severe the shortages are. The general manager at a large Japanese import shop said that they normally have 850 to 900 new cars on their lot. Today, they have fewer than 20. Worse yet for the company’s bottom line, they usually sell over 300 units in a month but, due to the constrained inventory, their sales are down to under 100. While they do have vehicles in the pipeline, almost all of them are presold — over 95%. A similar conversation with the owner of a luxury brand dealership told the same story — little or no inventory and not everything on order was promised.

I followed up the phone calls with a drive to several local car dealerships and it was an eye opener. I saw acres of empty asphalt that are normally stocked, bumper-to-bumper, with new vehicles. Of course, basic economics raised its head — the law of supply and demand. On one new truck with a 2021 window sticker I saw a “market adjustment” add-on of $1,000 over MSRP.

The used vehicle market is just as tight. The sales rep at an exotic car vendor reported that prices are up as much as 20%. For example, he recently brought in a very nice Mercedes Benz and was planning to post it at a market correct price. However, while he was waiting for it to come back from his detail shop for some pre-sale spit and polish, the average retail for cars like it went up over $2,000.

Reports of tight inventories are true. If you need a new vehicle ASAP due to an accident, theft, mechanical woes, etc., you will probably pay a higher price for a new or used replacement — if you can find a suitable vehicle! I did learn some good

news — cars coming off leases at some dealerships are getting a courtesy, no-extra-cost and no-penalty extension until the supply situation goes back to normal. But, one dealer in the know forecasts getting back to “normal” could take as long as the third quarter of 2023. Until then, it seems that most people are hanging on to their existing vehicles, anxiously waiting for the market to return to normal.
