Assistant Curator Kevin will lift f covers and open boxes to show you art r , social history r , military r history r , archives and lots more, from Anglo Saxons, Romans and Victorians to the present day. Castle, where the reason Newark became known as 'The Key to the Nort r h' can be seen. You will then visit some of the buildings that played a part r in the town's Civil War history r and remain standing. You will explore some of the characters, such as Baron Dohna, Hercules Clay and Prince Rupert r who were significant players in Civil War Newark. Aft f er making your way around the town you will head back to the castle to see where Scottish muskets and cannon left f their mark, before heading along the river towards the Queen's Sconce. This fort r ification, built to defend the town from Parliamentarian attack is the best preserv r ed 17th century r eart r hwork in the country r . The tour will take around 1 1/2 - 2 hours in total.
