The 12 baskets from beyond the arc fell one short of the single-game program record. The record of 13 baskets was set on Dec. 7, 2008 against Cal Poly. Against The Mount, Kelly Jo Mullaney paced USF with five three’s and Katy Keating with four – all of which came in the first half.
DISHIN’ OUT THE GOODS: Against the Academy of Art on Dec. 29, USF dished out 26 assists. The 26 assists marks the highest singlegame total for the Dons since the 2001-02 season. On Nov. 11, 2001, San Francisco posted 28 assists as USF defeated visiting Cal State Jennifer Azzi ............................................................Head Coach Northridge 95-69 at War Memorial Gym. So far this season, Barbour, who has posted 20 blocks, paces USF’s block brigade. Last season, no member of the USF roster recorded more than 11 blocks, while in 2008-09, Katy Keating posted 14. No Don has posted more than 20 blocks in a season since Lisa Olden posted 28 during the 2007-08 season. PACK THE HOUSE VS. THE CARDINAL: Wednesday, Dec. 22, USF hosted No. 8/8 Stanford in the annual “Pack The House Challenge”. Last season, USF faced Tennessee on the Hilltop as 3,255 watched on. In the 1999-2000 season opener, USF played Stanford at War Memorial Gym in front of 3,212.

DONS FALL JUST SHORT OF SCORING RECORDS: At Sacramento State, the Dons and the Hornets combined to scored 194 points, as USF fell 106-88. The 194 total points fell six points shy of the school record for combined points of 200. USF and BYU combined to score 200 points on Nov. 23, 1984 as the Dons fell 119-81. The 194 points marks the most points scored in regulation since the record scoring game. Against Colorado State in 2007, USF and the Rams combined to score 197 points, but in three overtime periods, as CSU prevailed 101-96. In addition the 88 points scored in the loss Wednesday, marked the most points scored in a loss since San Francisco fell to US International, 93-91, during the 1985-86 season. 2010-11 VIRTUAL MEDIA GUIDE RELEASED: The University of San Francisco women’s basketball team is proud to unveil the 2010-11 USF Women’s Basketball Virtual Media Guide. The guide, which features videos and slide shows, can be accessed at USFDons.com or by visiting the following link: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/8cf2aeee#/8cf2aeee/1. JENNIFER AZZI ERA: This season marks the beginning of a new era on the Hilltop, as women’s basketball legend Jennifer Azzi begins her appointment as head coach. Azzi, who was named to the helm of the program in April, brings an unprecedented wealth of basketball experience to the program. The 2009 Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee played five seasons in the WNBA, was a founding member of the American Basketball League (ABL), played overseas and enjoyed an All-American collegiate career at Stanford. Internationally, Azzi was a member of the USA Basketball Senior National Team from 1990-91 and 1993-98. A key member of the United States gold medalwinning 1996 Olympic Team that concluded a perfect 60-0 season with an 8-0 record during the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Azzi played on 13 USA National Teams, compiling a mark of 114-14. She also medaled three times at the World Championships, claiming gold in 1998 and 1990, while earning a bronze in 1994. ALE GAINING GROUND: Junior guard Rheina Ale enters the weekend looking to gain ground in the USF career-record books. The native of Carson, Calif., currently holds two spots in a pair of career top-10 record books. Ale sits third in free throw %, shooting at a .810 (200-247) clip from the line, Carey Sauer (1999-04) holds the record, shooting 87.4% (382-437). The 2010 captain, Ale, is sixth in 3-pointers made, with 110. She recently surpassed Toni Russell (2001-05) and is on pace to break Shay Rollins (2005-09) school record of 205. She is one 3-pointer away from being in a tie for third place. 2010-11 USF WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME #18/WCC #4 • PORTLAND SCOUTING THE PILOTS: Portland enters Thursday’s game with a 9-9 record, and are in search of their first West Coast Conference victory. The Pilots are also looking to snap a six game losing streak. Most recently, UP dropped a 68-58 overtime decision to Pepperdine in Malibu. Portland is led by Natalie Day with 13.1 points per game, ReZina Teclemariam adds 10.7 per contest. In league play, Portland is led by Lauren Angel with 14.0 points per game. The Pilots are coached by Jim Sollars, who is in his 24 year at Portland.
GAME #17/WCC #3 RECAP• SAN DIEGO COMEBACK AGAINST USD FALLS SHORT FOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (San Francisco) - The University of San Francisco Dons women’s basketball team put on a furious comeback in the second half of Saturday’s game against San Diego, but the Toreros were able to pull away in the final minute and pulled out the 72-60 win.
SERIES RECORD/STREAK: Portland holds a slight 26-23 all-time advantage over the Dons. Portland has won the past five meetings between the two schools.
After roaring out to a 9-3 start to their 2010-2011 campaign, the Toreros (10-7, 1-2 WCC) hit the skids and had lost four straight heading into Sunday’s WCC showdown with the Dons (3-14, 0-3 WCC). USF was riding a 3-game losing streak of its own, and neither team had won a WCC game yet, so something had to give.
LAST MEETING: The University of San Francisco women’s basketball team opened the final home stand of the 2010 regular season with a 80-52 loss to visiting Portland at War Memorial Gym. The Dons were paced by nine point efforts for Katy Keating and Heidi Anton.
The two squads traded streaks throughout the game, with USD taking the lead for good during a 9-0 first-half run. USF was able to keep it close thanks to a huge edge in bench scoring (9-2), and points in the paint (12-2) in the first half. The score at the break was 32-29, San Diego leading.
SERIES NOTES (LAST FOUR MEETINGS): • Feb. 25, 2010 - POR 80, @USF 52 • Jan. 28, 2010 - @POR 53, USF 50 • Feb. 12, 2009 - @POR 79, USF 41 • Jan. 15, 2009 - POR 68, @USF 50
The Toreros roared out of the gate in the second half, scoring 15 points and holding the Dons without a field goal for the first 5:22. Katy Keating had a knack for breaking long USD scoring runs with 3-pointers, but she was outnumbered by the bigger Toreros. After San Diego went on an 11-3 run to extend the lead to its widest margin of the day at 64-47 with just over 5:00 remaining, the Dons finally came back to life and started chipping away. Brittany Brumfield notched up her intensity and helped carry the Dons back to just a 7-point deficit in the final minute. But down the stretch, the Toreros did what they’d been doing all day, and buried their free throws to salt the game away. USD was 6-6 from the stripe in the final minute of play, and was 22-25 on the day. Keating stepped into the starting lineup for the outsized Dons and chipped in 17 points including four 3-pointers. Brumfield and Vania Singleterry joined Keating in double-digit scoring with 11 each. Singleterry had a game-high 11 rebounds as well.
