USF @ No. 13 Santa Clara Match #15 • Sun., Oct. 16 • 1:00 pm Buck Shaw Stadium Santa Clara, Calif.

Dons Head Out On The Road For Two Matches USF boasts two players with 10-plus points for first time since 2006 San Francisco defeats LMU for first time since 1997 GAME NOTES THIS WEEK: The University of San Francisco women’s soccer team takes to the road for two matches this week. Thursday, USF will travel to Spokane to take on Gonzaga, before returning to the Bay Area to face off against No. 13 Santa Clara in the South Bay, Saturday. NEXT WEEK: USF will return to the Hilltop next weekend, hosting Portland in its lone match of the week. The Dons and Pilots will kick off Sunday, October 23 at 1 p.m. LAST WEEK: The Dons opened league action last weekend, going 1-1. In the WCC season opener, USF downed LMU 2-1 at home, before traveling to San Diego. Against the Toreros, USF fell 3-0. USF RECORDS FIRST WIN OVER LMU IN OVER A DECADE: Last Friday’s 2-1 victory over Loyola Marymount to open West Coast Conference action was the first time since 1997 the Dons have logged a win over the Lions. In 1997, USF defeated LMU 2-1 on the Hilltop. All-time, San Francisco has gone 5-13-1 against Loyola Marymount. MOBERG, KRISER MAKING OFFENSIVE STRIDES: The duo of Christina Moberg and Mackenzie Krieser are a serious threat this season. Combined, the duo has recorded 20 points – over half of the Dons 39 total points. The last time USF has two members of its squad with 10-plus points was in 2006. That season, Chelsea Hunt recorded a dozen points, while Fiona O’Sullivan added 10. O’Sullivan went on to play for Ireland’s National Team. DONS USE TIME OFF TO GIVE BACK: On Thursday and Friday of last week, the University of San Francisco volunteered to serve free meals at Glide Memorial Church. The Glide Foundation is a highly visible and historically significant service organization in downtown San Francisco. As part of the life of the City, the program welcomed the chance to support Glide’s services. USF team values service and is committed to helping better the community that supports the team. A dozen members of the Women’s Soccer team and staff worked with the staff of Glide and other volunteers to serve over 700 meals in the course of two hours. Glide serves three meals a day to over 2,000 people. In the month of September alone, Glide has served over 59,000 meals. HALL RECORDS FIRST MULTI-GOAL GAME OF CAREER: At Washington, senior Molly Hall tallied the first multigoal match of her career. Hall struck early to give USF a 1-0 lead, netting the first goal of the afternoon at 14:31. The senior connected with a pass from freshman Jaciara Mello, before taking on the UW goalkeeper one-on-one. After Washington came back to take the lead, Hall netted her second goal of the match, and season, at 63:57. The second Dons goal was unassisted as Hall nailed the ball into the top left corner from the right side. KRIESER MAKES IMPACT IMMEDIATELY: Freshman forward Mackenzie Krieser has made an immediate impact for the Dons, starting all 13 matches of her young career. The Medford, Ore. native has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, scoring four goals while adding two assists for 10 points. She is currently tied with Christina Moberg as the Dons’ top scorer. The 10 points marks the most for a Don in a single season, since Chelsea Hunt posted a dozen in 2006. In 2003, Shuree Hyatt posted 20 points marking the last time a newcomer led the team with double-digit points. ZABALA NAMED TO CAL ATHLETICS HOF: Maite Zabala returns to the HIlltop for her fifth season as an assistant this year, only with a new accolade and a new title. Over the summer, Zabala was named as one of the newest members of the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame. The former goalkeeper for the Bears will be enshrined into the Hall this fall. A two-time first-team All-Pac-10 performer, Zabala was an outstanding goalkeeper for the Bears from 19972000. She helped Cal to three NCAA Tournaments, including a school-record 17 wins in 2000, and finished her career as the program’s all-time leader in shutouts (26.5) and saves (277).
