THIS WEEK: San Francisco hosts two highly ranked opponents in Bay Area rivals Cal and Stanford this weekend. USF hosts No. 10 Cal at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17 and welcomes No. 1 Stanford at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.

LOOKING AHEAD: After playing 11 matches in four weeks, the Dons get a bit of a break with just one game next week. Seattle University travels to the Hilltop for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 25.

LOOKING BACK: USF notched its first win of the season against Bethune-Cookman last weekend at the Miami Invitational. The Dons also dropped a four-set match to FIU and lost in straight sets to Miami earlier in the tournament.

WELCOME BACK: USF welcomes two of its Bay Area rivals back to Hilltop. Stanford returns to War Memorial Gym for the first time in more than two decades after last playing at USF in 1989. The Bears make their way to the Hilltop for the first time since the 2001 season. HEAD OF THE CLASS: Libero Whitney Swain is the only freshman ranked in the top 10 in digs in the West Coast Conference. The Elk Grove native is third with 4.13 digs/set for a total of 128 digs. Swain has led the Dons in digs in five of its nine matches. LAYING DOWN A CHALLENGE: The Dons’ games against Cal and Stanford are part of a four-team Pac-10/WCC Challenge. Also included in the challenge is Saint Mary’s, which is hosting Stanford on Friday and Cal on Saturday. This is the second-consecutive season the four teams have faced off in this challenge format. HITTING HER STRIDE: Sophomore Hadley Simmons made her presence known at the Miami Invitational this past weekend, garnering All-Tournament honors for the first time in her collegiate career. The middle blocker set a new career-high in kills with 14 against FIU, while totaling 24 kills during the three-match tournament.
