USF @ Santa Clara Match 20 • Fri., Oct. 22 • 6 p.m. Leavey Center Santa Clara, Calif.
THIS WEEK: USF plays its third match in six days as it hosts UC Davis in a rare non-conference match in the middle of the West Coast Conference schedule. The Dons then travel to Santa Clara for a 6 p.m. game on Friday, Oct. 22 for the Broncos’ Dig Pink night. LOOKING AHEAD: San Francisco heads to Southern California next week to play a pair of West Coast Conference matches. The Dons take on Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28 and Pepperdine at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. LOOKING BACK: USF lost both games last week against two of the West Coast Conference’s best teams in San Diego and Saint Mary’s. The Dons fell to the Toreros 17-25, 21-25 and 18-25, with the Gaels winning 25-21, 25-21 and 25-17. DIG PINK RALLY A SUCCESS: USF raised nearly $1,200 on Saturday night for the Side-Out Foundation as part of the volleyball program’s Dig Pink Rally. Total attendance at the match was 682, with close to 150 people attending the special inaugural Art & Wine Show held before the match. The Dons were proud to have Rick Dunetz, the founder and executive director of the Side-Out Foundation, as a special guest at the event. CRACKING THE TOP 10: Freshman hitter Malina Terrell’s 3.00 kills per set in West Coast Conference play is good enough to put her in the league’s top 10 in kills. Middle blocker Hadley Simmons is a top 10 blocker in conference play, averaging 0.95 blocks per set. Joan Caloiaro’s 7.48 assists per game in WCC matches is seventh best in the league. HEAD OF THE CLASS: Libero Whitney Swain has put up the best dig numbers of any freshman in the West Coast Conference. The Elk Grove native is second in the WCC with 4.38 digs/set in WCC matches. Swain has led the Dons in digs in 11 of its 18 matches and has put together four matches with 20 or more digs.
