San Francisco in first place in league standings after three WCC series; Dons host third-place Loyola Marymount for a three-game series GAME NOTES THIS WEEK: San Francisco continues its homestand with a three-game series against Loyola Marymount from Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1. The first game of the series is set for a 3 p.m. start with Saturday and Sunday’s games beginning at 1 p.m. LOOKING AHEAD: USF is back on the road next week, traveling to San Diego for a three-game series against the Toreros from Friday, May 6 to Sunday, May 8. The first game of the series is set for a 3 p.m. start with Saturday and Sunday’s games beginning at 1 p.m. LOOKING BACK: The Dons won all four games they played last week, beginning with a three-game sweep against rival Santa Clara by scores of 5-4, 9-5 and 15-4. USF then beat San Francisco State 8-4 in a non-conference tilt. PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dons’ centerfielder Pete Lavin was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week for his performances during the week of April 18. Lavin hit .526 in four games last week. The senior totaled 10 hits, three doubles, six runs scored, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base from the leadoff spot. He turned in a .684 slugging percentage and .571 on base percentage. Lavin was flawless in the outfield, catching 10 balls without an error. He is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak. It’s the second consecutive week that the Dons have earned Player of the Week honors after Travis Higgs captured the award last week. SWEEPSTAKES: USF swept its second consecutive West Coast Conference series after taking all three games against rival Santa Clara. It was the first time the Dons swept the Broncos since 2005. TWICE AS NICE: The Dons notched a single-game high of seven doubles in game three against Santa Clara on April 23. Pete Lavin, Stephen Yarrow and Mason Morioka each hit one two-base hit with Travis Higgs and Nik Balog doubling twice.
