Fremont Indian State Park 2009 Spring Newsletter What’s New at the Park … The Kid’s Discovery Zone The Kid’s Discovery Zone is now open to the public. Kids can dress up like a Fremont and experience living in a pithouse, practicing weaving on a loom, or leave their handprints on the rock wall. They can also put on a lab coat and experience being an archeologist by looking through microscopes, studying real artifacts, and learning about Native Americans. Regular Park fees apply. The Kid’s Discovery Zone Grand Opening will be held May, 23rd.

The Sam Stowe Group Camping Area The Sam Stowe Group Camping Area has 7 full hook-up sites, 7 tent camping pads, a wheelchair accessible site, coin-operated showers, wheelchair accessible restrooms, volleyball, horseshoes, and two pavilions with lights, electricity, and cooking grills. Reservations are not currently being taken. The group area is expected to open this spring/summer. The site cost $3 per person per day with a 25 person minimum.

Coming Events There are many opportunities to volunteer at Fremont Indian State Park. Individuals can volunteer as museum guides, trail guides, work on exhibits, act as a librarian, work at the front desk, become a collections assistant, adopt a trail, maintain the park, or work during special events. The Volunteer Orientation is scheduled for Saturday, March14th. If you are wondering what volunteering at Fremont Indian State Park is like, this is the best opportunity to learn. This three-hour orientation will include a program on working with people with disabilities in the museum setting, a tour of our new Kid's Discovery Zone, and much more. There is no charge, and lunch is provided. Please RSVP to Kari Carlisle at karicarlisle@utah.gov or 435-527-4631. Junior Ranger Program During your visit to Fremont Indian State Park, kids can receive a free Junior Ranger book. Complete the book and receive a free Junior Ranger badge.
