Idris Yakubu, a P4 PharmD student, has been actively involved in the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) throughout his time at The University of Toledo. His active involvement in the organization has included leadership on the local level as the public relations chair for the UT chapter. The B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences program introduced a new major, Cosmetic Science, in Fall 2012. One of very few cosmetic science programs in the nation, the new major at UT prepares students to develop, formulate and produce cosmetic and personal care products. The first students to matriculate in the program have completed the program’s requisite internship. The internship experiences of Kayla Banks and Sarah Breen prepared them for success in this rapidly growing industry. Kayla Banks, a P2 Cosmetic Science student, was a Product Safety & Research intern for Limited Brands, Inc. She worked with the company’s Global Product, Safety, Efficacy, and Regulatory Affairs department. As part of the Change Management team, Kayla helped to monitor products changes and updates for Bath & Body Works and Victoria's Secret Beauty products. Kayla felt that the company did a great job integrating her into the company culture. As an intern, she was able to extend her knowledge of the industry by traveling to New York City to visit the company’s
distribution and manufacturing centers. Sarah Breen, also a P2 student, interned Keystone Compounding Pharmacy in Grand Rapids, Michigan. For her internship, Sarah formulated two allnatural body washes for the company. The summer blend body wash she formulated cools the skin, while the winter blend warms the skin. These products are fragrance-free and paraben-free and are scheduled for full production by Keystone, to be sold in Keystone Pharmacy and on Amazon.com. Sarah’s work during her internship has earned her a position with Keystone Compounding Pharmacy as the brand manager for the products she formulated. As brand manager, she will oversee all aspects of the production of these products.
