Refurbishing the old cinema of a provincial town in the center of italy, SanGiorgio di Pesaro, offers the opportunity to transform an inhomogeneous agglomerate into an urban space, as to create a new municipal centrality and rediscover civic identity. The intervention’s goal is to define a space able to offer places really usable and perceptable. Slowing the rhythm of the path crossing the square, modifing the paving and raising his hight, an urban junction is established. A square for the weekly market, a playground for the school, a space for relashionship: these are the potential of an area today anonimous and full of concrete. A big effort has been made to understand the process of incorporating environmental issues into planning, design and constuction, favoring local and low-emission materials, and increading green areas against heat-island effect.

As for the old and abandoned cinema, the municipality aimed for a multipurpose building able to host a conference hall for the town council, a cinema, an exibition hall.Flexibility is the main object of the architectural program.Inside the old walls an inner volume of movable partition allow the wider and most free use of the space. The project focus on the building’s performance, that is, developing a design capable of providing occupant comfort at lowest carbon emission: understanding the building as a system and optimizing the interrelationships of the various components of that system to best meet the needs of the end users.

Graphical elaboration for the presentation to the client of a small residential complex close to lake maggiore banks. Mimicking the existing settlement in order to fulfil orientation and bioclimatic requirements. Deep lodges and conservatories improve the energetic performance of the buildings, and garantee an high level of privacy. Residences are plunged into green areas, both public and private, just as the historical villas which surround the lake. Laguage join pure rationalist lines and typical material. Dimensions, distances, relationship between built and green create a something witch, as for privacy, safety, quality and potential is a tiny garden city.

The opening of a new, modern hospital away from the city center frees a huge area inside the historical part of the renaissance city of Ferrara. Facing territorial and socioeconomic matters and, on the other hand, the complexity of an historical fabric and the proximity af several precious ancient building, the proposal combines the issues of preservation and conservation with imperatives of modern planning and economic requirements of real estate. Three aspects have guided the project: music, green, bicycle, as the main characters of the town itself: a music park, hosting events and festival as well as providing a peaceful rest, just in the inner part of Ferrara, far from noise and traffic.

Prof. Alessandro Massarente A new multifunctinoal center in the northen a area of Rovigo, set in the wider plan of the town council for the landscape reconfiguration of the area between the minicipality and the river Adige. Rediscovering the undulating landscaped grounds and the vegetation typical of northern-east italy with a building developing over several gradients making the terrain a fundamental part of the architectural program. This is underlined by the building splitting itself in different pavillions half-sunken in the hill.

floating country

evolo skyscreaper competition 2011 Rising seas, caused by global warming, have yet caused the first “victims”: the obliteration of Lohachara island, in India, marks the moment when one of the most apocalyptic predictions of environmentalists and climate scientists has started coming true. As the seas continue to swell, they will inundate vast areas of countries from Bangladesh to Egypt, and submerge parts of scores of coastal cities. But what if a whole country sinks? The Marshall Islands lie in open ocean, and the islands are generally very close to sea level. Approximately 1225 islets in 29 atolls scattered over 3/4 million square miles, the average height above sea level is 7 feet or 2 meters. The highest land area is on Likiep Atoll, where the elevation reaches a maximum altitude of only six meters. Fragile coral reefs fringe the atolls, and serve as the only line of defense against the ocean surge. The clearance over the reef in the sections that are covered by water is usually no more than a couple of feet. In other places the reef is commonly only barely submerged.Although the islands have by no means been completely free from weather extremes, they are more frequently referred to in folklore as “jolet jen Anij” (gifts from God). The sense that Marshall Islands was a God-given sanctuary away from the harshness of other areas is therefore part of the socio-cultural identity of the people. However, the Marshall Islands will likely be at even greater risk. The relative safety that the islands have historically provided is now in jeopardy.

tutors Luis Palacios Labrador+Sergi Romero Moreno The site, from liverpool to manchester, a historical harbor, a powerful link. The canal surrounds the city center edge, how can they meet each other? The model is the main work process, it’s a playground to architecture discussion. Not a closed design, but a single phase in the work process. Specific interventions in potential areas have been associated one with each other. this dialogue gives complexity, variety and vitality to the proposal where interventions work all together for the canal revitalization.

Redeveloping and salvaging the post-industrial area of Lambrate in Milan suburbs, in order to convert it for business and residential purposes. Renovating some of the existing buildings turning them from their current industrial-craft function into a performing art center and, on the other hand, creating new buildings serving mainly housing purposes. A new inner-city park to connect together the various projects and, at the same time, provide a juncture with the other major parks in the belt around milan.

A survey campaign on Alberti’s Tempio Malatestiano in Rimini, testing and evidencing the great technological progress in 3D automatic surveying procedures developed in recent years. Significant attention was devoted to enhance the potential of 3D laser scanner survey for the elaboration of 3D querying databases, in order to provide end users with geometric historical archives of architecture. Merely a singol step towards the ambitious goal of providing the Foundation Leon Battista Alberti with a fully queryable and updatable 3D geometric archieve of the mentioned architectures.

A small train station in the Alps. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle has been the goal of program who put sustanibility as his main character. Green design starts with environmental integration, and makes a special effort in integrating public transport and bike facilities. Eco-friendly materials and technologies are studied to reduce the impact of the building, avoiding the waste of energy and land.
