Brett Stone
Brett was born in Perth but has spent most of his adult life in Sydney. He became a potter after years of representing ceramic artists in his other life as an art dealer. Focussing on the bowl, Stone incorporates these into stacks and massed groupings. His interest in the raw materials in clay and glazes often shape his interpretation of landscape and interiors. Each bowl is like a potted history from our personal narrative and experiences. Brett Stone is represented by Utopia Art Sydney, and has exhibited for over 20 years. He also is a founder and director of claypool, a large communal ceramic studio in Sydney.

Throughout Australia’s history fire and water are central. Both for survival and ceremony; as a destructive and/or rejuvenating force; fire in the hearth and furnace.
“Lake Burley Griffin – Dusk” is quintessential Canberra, it anchors the urban design and enhances the scenic aspects. The massed bowls become the choppy surface, the reflective surface that belies the muddy water beneath.
“Smoke” represents the many conversations and gatherings around this fireplace - family, friends and colleagues.
“Black Mountain Tower” looms above the city equally loved and unloved.
