JEANNY YAO

Biochemistry and Environmental Science

A trip to a landfill opened Jeanny Yao’s eyes to the problem of plastic pollution. Through her high school research, Jeanny discovered bacteria strains that degrade plasticizers, toxic additives in plastic. She was awarded the Greatest Commercialization Award at the Sanofi BioGENEius Challenge Canada, named one of Canada’s Top 20 Under 20, and one of Canada’s future leaders. Jeanny is now at UTSC exploring bacteria genetics and searching for a solution to degrading solid plastic waste.

Non-Ontario students Students may take the summer non-credit preparation program for university-level mathematics at the U of T St. George campus. Visit www.math.utoronto.ca/cms/PUMP.

Transfer students If you are applying to a program that requires university-level Calculus, we recommend that you enrol in the equivalent course at your university or college (if offered). In some cases, it may be possible to receive consideration if Calculus is completed at least to the high school level. If you have not taken Calculus in secondary school or the high school Calculus equivalent course in your postsecondary studies, you have extra preparation to do. Please contact the Admissions & Student Recruitment office directly.

TRANSFER STUDENTS FROM OTHER POSTSECONDARY INSTITUTIONS
