Somjit Ghosh I am an amateur street photographer. My interest in photography was roused ever since I learnt to use my father‘s analog Kodak KB10 camera. As a child, watching my father‘s interest in photography helped me nurture my own. At present I am a self-employed businessman and have been pursuing photography as a hobby for nearly 4 years. In the midst of the daily toil of the market, while being engaged in my family business, photography brings me my most needed respite. Capturing the ordinary life around me, in its extraordinary beauty - that‘s what makes everyday worth it. I have always wanted to tell stories, be it my own, or of the places I go to. Situation: Close to the disputed border between India, Pakistam & China at 4300m of altitude, in Jammu-Kashmir. Trek with some young monks around their monastery. My personal thoughts: Basically I‘m educator and teacher around the world since 4 years ago, in different countries and actually in Nepal. I was lucky to met so -many- cultures, people, traditions and religions. On 2019 I had a chance to teach in a Buddhist monastery in JammuKashmir. Until now is still like one of my best experience... Just insane. This day it was a Sunday and after the prayer at 6AM, we went with 6 kids do a trek at 4300m of altitude. Beautiful sceneries of course but mostly, the teacher at this moment it was them... not me Only my personal one Seb Ben (you can share it) (no official page about my travel), Instagram : @worldwide_teacher_educator

I found much more options and opportunities fot shooting like Architecture, Street photos and Portraits (I hate to shoot people that pose for me, so I do my best to „steel“ photos of people on their

natural way of life or when it‘s almost impossible. I ditch the photo or after revision I accept it becasue even thoiugh their, in some way posing, they appear natural and it‘s enough for me) and last but not least the landscapes.

The moon is already beautiful without being illuminated by the sun. But, although we do not exist for the reflection of ourselves in the eyes of others, we sure are interesting as shadow and light bounced back. In effect, that is where many of our most compelling stories can be told.

Photographing on the streets allows us to

make a deeper connection to the more complex narratives that can be revealed within the simplest moments of day to day life being led. The luxury afforded by the stopping of time offers a more contemplative view into the human experience which might otherwise be missed in the constant flow of the city.

Mou Aysha Siddiqua

#7_2021 ISP MAGAZINE

Mou Aysha Siddiqua Mou Aysha, could you please tell us about yourself? During and after my studies at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, graduating with a Masters in Applied English Linguistics, I started photography which became a growing passion.

I have been following the photography workshops and courses at GMB Akash Institute of Photography since 2014 in Dhaka. Now I dedicate myself to capturing the best moments of life as I see and feel them. What first drew you to photography, and how did you discover it? I have always loved people and have always wanted to learn about them from up close. People, their culture, their experiences, always fascinated me since my childhood. I found out that photography gives me opportunities to go and learn about people and their journeys.

Photography is more of my passion than my profession. It means a lot to me personally and I find a great deal of satisfaction and challenge in this art. I only shoot what I feel is important to me. I go out to take photos because it’s fascinating to me and becau-

se I am curious about people, their lives, their culture, and their faces. Every time I go out with my camera I feel happy. Every new place and all the new people I encounter make me happy. Mou Aysha, how was it growing up in Bangladesh, and when did you get involved with photography? Since childhood, I have been fascinated with people and their faces. I grow up in the northern part of Bangladesh and from a young age, I saw a lot of people from the islands. Their faces were always different from other people I had seen. They were burnt with the

sun, had a lot of scratches on their face and their eyes were red. All those faces grabbed my attention as a child, one of my main reasons to become a photographer was to capture those faces and bring more light to them. I wanted to share their beautiful and unique faces with others. I have a special affection for portraits and have, therefore, produced an extensive series of them. Genuine smiles, emotions, and people’s stories attract me the most. I want to capture the purest of emotions in my photographs. I also occasionally feel inspired by other subjects and compositions and try not to limit my creative instincts.

I also do street life and travel photography. I seek to discover and photograph that which is unseen by me or others, therefore, I find myself becoming an explorer with a powerful desire to travel. Facebook Page: Mou Aysha Instagram: mou_aysha Twitter: Mou Aysha @aysha_mou

Kakunda is an Umbundu term, one of Angola‘s native languages, meaning back or shoulders and refers to the manner in which most Angolan mothers carry their children while they walk or work. It is an ancestral way of caring for children, which is naturally passed from mothers to daughters. Clutched by a cloth tied in a strong knot on the front of her mother‘s body, little Maria gives me

a somewhat sad, but sweet and restful look. She feels cozy and safe. For now she doesn‘t realize how much love her mother is giving her right now, keeping her tightly bonded to her body as she works hard sitting on the floor. One day, when she is a mother, she will surely remember because she too will put her children in her kakunda.

Babajide Olusanya Greetings Beloved, I am Babajide Olusanya, I am a budding freelance Photographer with an eye and passion for Photojournalism and writing. Through Photography, I am driven to document, preserve and promote our Nation‘s diverse indegenous cultures, traditional values, and spirituality. The Photograph attached was shot during a 3 hours long uphill hike to find the source of a waterfall with friends. At the top of the hill, there is a farmer‘s village, the young lady and her family are occupants of this community. When we got to her, seeing how tired we were, she gave us water drawn from the source of the waterfall.

The climb, the discussion with my friends along the way, the climax attained from the view at the top, and the reviving water we were given by the young courteous woman in the picture with her welcoming attitude at that time had a mystical influence in my life. It taught me that at the top of my struggles, there is a view that surpasses the view below and there is soothing water from an everflowing stream to quench my thirst. Although the stream wasn‘t as breathtaking as the levels of waterfall it produces and my crew were a little disappointed the water was cool and sweet.

Amalia Florou from Athens, Greece Images from a Month of Daily Work in the Countryside … The volume of a cold stone, day by day, comes to life through your heart, hands and tools. As you work on it, you always “listen” to its weaknesses and sensitivities so that it doesn’t break. Often, you feel a little anxious about the result, and quite tired from the hard work in the heat or wind. Powder covers you and everything nearby. The protective mask makes your breathing heavier.

of questions and observe your sculpture endlessly to absorb as much knowledge as they can. Many of them come back again and again to see your progress, or to offer you food, drinks and sweets. They connect with you, and you with them. Little by little you feel like you belong in this place. You share your art and creativity —the birth, evolution and completion of your work.

But as the stone forms, shapes develop more and more each day and it looks like they are dancing intoxicatingly in the daylight that moves rhythmically on them. And the difficulties magically soften. Even the loud sound of the cutting wheel vibrating in your ears and hands turns into a soft melody. And you, you get carried away by it all.

And when you leave, you are filled with beautiful images, tastes and emotions. It is undoubtedly a unique journey, a singular experience, this one of The Sculpture Symposium.

Throughout this almost ritualistic process, the presence of passers-by every so often, full of curiosity and excitement, invades the trance. You feel their admiration. They ask you a variety

Animal instinct

Valentina D‘Amato Babylon, the infinite library

I always have felt safe in libraries since I was a little girl. But here, in this place, I also have the sensation of being in another dimension. I took this picture in one of those days in Babylon, as it is called this old bookstore, where time passes differently. It is like if all the rare books are ships that transport you to distant worlds. Here, Babylon ( the city from the Tower of Babel), refers to the story of the argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges “Library of Babel“, where the universe is represented as a huge

library, composed of an indefinite number of galleries of books and infinite shelves, where the knowledge of the world is found. In the story, among the librarians, there is one who is the narrator, who has spent his whole life looking for a book where he believes that are all the answers. Here in the picture, under the attentive gaze of a viewer, the librarian is at the end of the ladder, looking for that unreachable book that hasn‘t found yet. This shows that Borges‘s story is endless.

Tribal Marks

#7_2021 ISP MAGAZINE

Babajide Olusanya T. H. U. G. L. I. F. E.

The mind of the child is a clean slate, as she grows each day leaves its mark on her mind through her immediate environment, and all that surrounds her paints a form and a character on her consciousness that, in turn, influence who she becomes in the long run. The popular phrase tattooed on the body of the legendary Tupac Shakur is an acronym for “The Hate U Gave Little Infants F*cks Everybody,“ which, according to the great rapper, means, “What you feed us as seeds, grows and blows up in your face.“ In my country, Nigeria, an oppressive fascist system is in play. This systems keeps the masses from getting ahead by corruptly placing foolishly devised policies that feed the cycle of corruption, violence, and poverty that dominates poor communities and underprivileged, resorting to drug dealing, cyber crime, gang-related offenses, kidnapping, and prostitution, because they lack the tools and ability to better themselves. So they turn to the methods and people they know are available to help soothe the harsh reality of the country in which I live.

The seed of ethnic discord is also being planted in the minds of little infants, they are made to see “thy neighbors as enemies.“ Currently, there is a brewing geopolitical and ethnic crisis between the North of Nigeria and the South, which is sponsored greatly by government and politics and promoted by the news media, religious sects and close relatives who feed children conflicting and confrontational ideologies against those who are not thier own. This sense of disunity implanted in the minds of Children will eventually grow into a poisonous tree with thorns so sharp that it will poke at the eyes of social development, growth, and stability, resulting in chaos, hardship, and a whole generation of youths trying to break out from this concentration camp of a nation and leaving them vulnerable to the vultures that prey on the weak and dying, and use them indecently and indiscriminately.

Tribal Marks

Sacrifications are scars left by an accident, penance or punishments, or even surgery. Marks whose intent are not the mark itself but it having been a consequence of an action intended for other purposes are scarifications. Marks left on the skin by boiling water or hot rod; whips and slashes of knives are scarifications. Tribal incisions have been widely used by

many West African ethnic groups to mark milestone stages in both men and women‘s lives, such as puberty, and marriage. They are made to achieve various valid purposes which may include historical, cultural, medical, religious and aesthetic reasons. Besides being a means for beautification and identity, traditional incision marks have very strong medicinal and spiritual ties.
