EVENT SCHEDULE

WELCOME TO THE LAKE POWELL & GLEN CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION AREA!

FRIDAY

Welcome to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, more commonly known as Lake Powell! The Lake Powell Half is unique among our series of National Park themed half marathons in that it is the only race that is not centered around a National Park (it is instead a National Recreation Area). It is only 1 of 2 races where the course actually takes you within park boundaries. That is because Lake Powell is special. This area is a treasure of the Colorado Plateau. The analogy has been made that to admire the red cliffs of Lake Powell would be akin to flooding a cathedral and commenting on how beautiful the spires are. Our desire to protect these wonderful lands, to uncover the wonders long ago buried by the flooding of Glen Canyon and the fun we have when visiting and boating on this wonderful lake create some pretty conflicting emotions.
