November‘09 I am glad to write to you. I want to describe what we do in our free time. Well, we haven’t got too much free time. We go to school from Monday to Friday. School usually starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. After school we do our homework. We often have got lots of homework- and that’s very awful. The most popular free-time activities are playing computer games and watching TV. We live in the village, so we can spend our free time outside the home. And, of course, we read books and listen to music. I hope you like this article. Cheers Izabela Pająk Publiczne Gimnazjum w Stawigudzie (Public Gymnasium in Stawiguda) Stawiguda Our school is in a small village called Stawiguda. Stawiguda is situated in the north of Poland near Olsztyn. It covers an area of 222.52 square kilometres. Its total population is 5,134. In the village there is one nursery school, a primary school and gimnazjum( it is a kind of lower secondary school). We have a post office, a chemist's, a out-patient clinic, a fire-brigade and a police station and some shops too. In Stawiguda there are a lot of forests and lakes: Łanskie, Pluszne, Wulpinskie. The village has got sports club called GKS Stawiguda. In th5s club there are children who play football. Boys and girls train and win tournaments. We have a big stadium and a tennis court. In Pluski(a village near Stawiguda)there is a great Aquapark. It`s new and it`s funny. There are a lot of great attractions. Kornelia Zdolska Warmia and Mazury ‘Warmia and Mazury’ is a region in the north-east of Poland. The capital of it is Olsztyn. Our province is a beautiful place. The second name of Warmia is ‘Green Lungs of Poland or Europe’, because there are a lot of forests. In our wood in summer you can ride a bike, walk or pick up mushrooms and we have one thousand and one lakes! On holidays and whenever you want you can jump into cold water and swim. In winter many people skate on frozen lakes. It’s good fun! When there is snow in Warmia you can ski or do snowboarding. If you are in this province you must see beautiful views. Everyone wants to eat traditional food of Warmia which is delicious. ‘Warmia and Mazury’ is the best place to relax, because here are quiet. But it isn't the end - the most beautiful women of the country live in Warmia! Konrad Potrzuski

WHAT ARE POLISH TEENAGERS’ HOBBIES ? Lots of teenagers in Poland are interested in sport. The most popular sport is football. Almost each boy loves playing and watching matches. Other sports like volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming and athletic are getting more and more popular in our country. Of course, Polish teenagers like music. We listen to many kinds of music, for example, pop, rock, punk, soul, rap, r’n’b, reggae, techno, house. Teenagers do not just listen to it but also play many different instruments. Polish girls are interested in fashion. We love shopping, reading fashion magazines and spending hours in front of the mirror. Lots of people at our age spend a lot of time playing computer games. Tibia, Gothic, Counter Strike and many others are very popular. After school some young people often go dancing, singing or learning foreign languages. At the weekends teenagers usually go to the cinema or disco. We love hanging out with friends and just having a good time. Małgorzata Hinzmann Marta Łabanowska

The Cyrillic alphabet is currently in use by several eastern European languages. This set of characters is usually attributed to St. Cyril (827(827-869), who, along with his brother St. Methodius (826(826-884), was sent from Thessalonica, Greece, by Emperor Michael III to Christianize the Khazars. The Khazars were a Tatar people of the Balkan region (now Slovakia) who practiced Judaism. It is apparent that the missionary effort was not very successful, since the Khazars were probably the source population of much of European Jewry.
