Sustainability driven innovation Day after day, sustainability and innovation are the driving forces behind our work. Technology, product functionality and innovative solutions, cutting-edge design and research are as vital and as important as our imagination and as the care we take over detail, as our passion for natural materials and for handicraft workmanship, as the attention we pay to the quality of life, to safety and to respect for the environment. Art, beauty, nature. At the Valcucine headquarters where our ofďŹ ces are immersed in natural surroundings, our love for nature becomes tangible: large windows overlook a long, gently undulating, tree-lined garden. Light, architecture, art and design permeate every space. The air is saturated with imaginative thinking and pursuit of beauty. Here Man can really live in harmony with nature.

Valcucine’s guidelines Man and nature have always been the two mainstays of Valcucine. To reduce its impact on the environment and in line with its on-going research to improve the quality of life, for years our company has been designing and manufacturing products that respect the four fundamental rules of eco-compatibility: dematerialisation, recyclability, reduction of toxic emissions and durable aesthetics and techniques. .

The Guidelines:
dematerialisation The Earth’s resources are limited and the request for raw materials is growing increasingly: we can’t afford to carry on wasting them. Valcucine designs and constructs high-quality furniture that uses less materials than traditional furniture and as little energy as possible while maintaining its sturdiness and design. The carcasses are reduced to the essentials while the strength of the project is expressed to the utmost degree in a feeling of lightness mixed with sturdiness.

The Guidelines:
recyclability and reusability To respect the environment, Valcucine manufactures products with their entire life-cycle in mind. In particular, they are designed so that the materials they are composed of can be easily recognised and sorted when they are discarded. For example, the Riciclantica door has a frame made entirely and exclusively of aluminium. Even the joints of this patented system are in aluminium, making this the only frame in the world that is 100% recyclable without having to be disassembled.

The Guidelines:
reduction of toxic emissions Valcucine carries out random analyses on materials to check for the presence of volatile substances and formaldehyde that are dangerous for our health. The aluminium and glass carcasses and drawer and jumbo drawer structures reduce formaldehyde emissions to zero. The water-based varnishes we use for the wooden parts of our furniture also drastically reduce the toxic substances produced by synthetic solvents.

The Guidelines:
long technical life: tested quality Valcucine has always focused on sustainable development by means of an on-going commitment that makes it possible to substantially reduce the environmental impact of its production. Our consistent and constant dedication to eco-friendly production, led us to be the first Italian kitchen cabinet makers to obtain the UNI EN ISO 14001 environmental certification in 2001. Other prestigious certifications followed suit. We carry out rigorous quality and material resistance tests on every element that composes our kitchens in the Valcucine Laboratory every day. To mention just a few, tests are carried out for stain and light, impact, scratch, heat and water resistance. To certify the quality of its materials, Valcucine relies on CATAS, the largest Italian furniture and wood products research and test centre that is a benchmark for Italy and for the whole world. We do all this to ensure that our furniture is produced using only the best materials that meet the requirements of our end users. These materials are carefully selected on the basis of the results obtained from the most advanced methods of analysis.

1985: A KITCHEN REVOLUTION: THE ARTEMATIC DOOR IS BORN
1988: THE FIRST GLASS DOOR IS BORN
1994: THE 2MM RICICLA DOOR IS BORN
1996: LOGICA SYSTEM: THE VALCUCINE ERGONOMICS IS BORN
Artematica is the first door in the world to have an aluminium structural frame and a HPL finishing panel that is only 5mm thick. It has no edges that can come unstuck and no backing panel that can swell when in contact with water or steam.
Valcucine produced the first kitchen in the world made completely of aluminium and glass that respects the rules of eco-sustainable design.
The “Ricicla” line of kitchens is born. It boasts the first aluminium-framed door with a 2mm thick panel in the world. The first company to have ever used technologies from the car industry, Valcucine managed to produce a wooden panel that was only 2mm thick with a resistance equal to that of a traditional, 20mm thick, chipboard panel.
A new kitchen ergonomics system called “Logica System” is born: the 80cm depth is launched with an equipped back section, the “Libera” hood frees the space above the hob making it safe to move around without bumping into anything and the “Ala” wall unit presents a door that opens and closes using only the force of gravity.

2002: AERIUS, THE 100% ALUMINIUM AND GLASS WALL UNIT
2009: THE 100% RECYCLABLE BASE UNITS
2011: NEW ERGONOMICS: NEW LOGICA SYSTEM
2012: THE MECCANICA SYSTEM
Aerius is born, the first 100% recyclable wall unit in the world, with a lift-up door that exploits the force of gravity and side panels that are never doubled. Aerius revolutionises the wall unit concept thanks to a new aluminium and glass carcass, a honeycombed aluminium door and LED lighting.
Lengthy research into materials and into their limits of resistance have allowed Valcucine to revolutionise the furniture industry, producing the first 100% recyclable base unit in the world. The system has been designed to have only mechanical joints so that there is no need for glues with their emissions of formaldehyde, making it easy to disassemble at the end of its life cycle.
Everything on hand, everything tidy in an instant. Utmost interaction between the user and the “kitchen system”. The innovative accessorised back panel is capable of containing and concealing, when necessary, all the equipment used in the kitchen. Integrated hood.
Meccanica (demode engineered by Valcucine) is a system consisting in a lightweight framework and an innovative design made up of single structural elements that are connected together by mechanical joints. No glues are used which means there is no trace of formaldehyde: Meccanica has been designed to be 80% reusable and 100% recyclable.

Innovation: Invitrum, the dismountable system Lengthy research into materials and into their limits of resistance have allowed Valcucine to revolutionise the furniture industry by becoming the ďŹ rst company to produce a 100% recyclable base unit in glass, with some parts made of recycled aluminium. The production process of recycled aluminium has the advantage of consuming only one-twentieth of the energy needed to obtain primary aluminium. Traditional kitchens usually offer base units that are installed side-by-side, meaning that the chipboard side panel is double and can reach a thickness of 36mm. Valcucine, on the other hand, has developed the structure of its kitchen horizontally and uses a single, glass, carcass side panel that is only 10mm thick. Valcucine is well aware that an existing product is a potential resource for the future. The entire new glass base unit system is easy to disassemble because it is put together using mechanical joints instead of glues. It is easy to divide the materials of which the base unit is composed because it is made up of mono-material components.

Innovation: New Logica System, everything on hand, everything tidy in an instant. Valcucine has always focused on satisfying its customers’ requirements and has painstakingly researched into the use of traditional kitchens to this aim. This has resulted in the perfection of a few aspects that improve the interaction of the user with the whole kitchen “system”. After having revolutionised ergonomics in 1996 by presenting the Logica System, Valcucine presents the new accessorised back panel. This system offers freedom of sight and of movement and exploits the force of gravity that is never subject to wear.

Artematica Curva, design based on a curved line High technology, formal simplicity and pure and minimalist lines are the main features of one of the most modern kitchens in the world, in its new Artematica Curva version. Its main feature is a sinuous line that runs along the entire kitchen, creating concave and convex curves that favour an ergonomic utilisation of the room. As is true of all the Valcucine furniture, Artematica Curva can be used with all the Valcucine product lines as well as with the original Artematica line itself, giving the interior designer the greatest planning freedom in the world. The curved version of Artematica has an aluminium structural frame to which various types of panels in different materials can be applied: lacquered MDF, glass and steel. This system consists in lighter parts that make the hinges last longer and the doors close more silently for an easy to recycle kitchen that has a smaller impact on the environment. Designed by Gabriele Centazzo with some customising details by Alessandro Mendini.

Vitrum Arte: the artistic customisation of glass For Vitrum Arte Valcucine has developed a special technique to create various inlaid decors on glass. This is a very high-tech process that is deeply-rooted in handicraft tradition. The drawings are cut out of a special coloured ďŹ lm and applied to tempered glass panels by hand. These panels will then become the kitchen doors, worktops and side panels. These decors are patiently and lovingly handmade so that each kitchen arrangement becomes inimitable and unique. Vitrum Arte has been created to allow architects and interior decorators to let their imagination and creativity loose to customise kitchen front panels with really original decors. This is how exclusive projects that allow the customer to own a really unique kitchen are achieved.

Bespoke projects One of our challenges is to take the ideas of the best architects and international designers and turn them into unique projects, for residential purposes and prestigious contract and nautical supplies. Thanks to our in-house artisans and to our network of specialised firms, our company’s industrial works and its great mass production capacity does not exclude the possibility of fulfilling demanding projects using any material (stone, quartz, porcelain, steel, aluminium, any wood finish and Corian®).

Demode: democratic modern design Demode, a special line of kitchens, is principally a “Made in Italy” brand of furniture. Attention to detail, ergonomics, product quality and respect for the environment are at the basis of its design philosophy. But Demode is also the accomplishment of the idea that it is possible to plan the future in a different way by revising and promoting a new culture. It is a democratic and humanistic concept of design, intended as a tool to simplify everyone’s daily life. Demode is the result of Valcucine’s thirty years’ experience, a design product that, together with Meccanica, has achieved unique sustainability and is accessible to all.

A new concept for young consumers: Meccanica: demode engineered by Valcucine. A line with a lightweight framework and an innovative design made up of single structural elements that are connected together by mechanical joints. No glues are used which means there is no trace of formaldehyde: Meccanica has been designed to be 80% reusable and 100% recyclable. This system has been designed to play with the absence of materials: it can even be planned using only frames and shelves. To plan a kitchen and decide to add to it as time goes by. designed by Gabriele Centazzo

Freedom of choice, freedom to create. Valcucine has created a variety of elements to satisfy the requirements of any home. The single lines complement each other and guarantee great aesthetic flexibility. It’s the largest system in the world to freely meet any type of furnishing requirement. The possibility of creating a kitchen by combining elements taken from various models is one of the features that sets Valcucine apart from the competition. Our company has always wanted to meet the requirements of architects and interior designers all over the world. Our inspiration comes from the great variety of ideas offered by nature which is why we can offer an endless quantity of harmonious solutions. This competitive edge has become possible because Valcucine has preserved a farsighted and consistent design policy with a univocal language for more than 30 years. This guideline has always been the common denominator of each of our projects and now makes the various product lines compatible with each other because all ours systems have been devised by one designer. Not only can you plan your kitchen in total freedom, but you can now also plan the entire “home system”, from the kitchen to the living room, from the study to the laundry room.

Respect for the environment Valcucine founded BIOFOREST in 1998, a no-profit association aimed at promoting a production culture throughout the world that is more aware if environmental issues, and at contributing to restoring and protecting the natural resources of our planet. By means of its projects, Bioforest wants to balance out the emissions of CO , thus reducing its contribution to the greenhouse effect and even cancelling it by planting new trees.
PROJECT 1_”OTONGA” IN EQUADOR
PROJECT 2_”RISORGIVE DEL VINCHIARUZZO” IN ITALY
PROJECT 3_“OCCHIONE” IN ITALY
PROJECT 4_”GOT OWAGA” IN KENIA
The aim of the “Otonga” project in Ecuador is to acquire primary forest allotments to preserve their exceptional biodiversity features. A scientific centre has been set up to accommodate researchers from all over the world.
The project is located in the resurgence area of Vinchiaruzzo in the province of Pordenone: it aims at acquiring and restoring degraded areas by planting native trees to regenerate the environment that was typical of the ancient forest plains.
Bioforest promotes an environmental education project in some of the schools in the province of Pordenone, including the construction of a naturalistic laboratory to study local flora and fauna.
A reforestation project located in the strip dedicated to the cultivation of sugar cane (the primary cause of deforestation) in Kenya, in the Nyando Valley (Nyanza), coordinated and directed by Richard S. Odingo, senior member of African climatologists and Nobel Prize winner for peace and for the environment in 2007.
