The Six Practices of Self-Esteem By Kira Bishop
1. The practice of living consciously: • • • • • • • • • •
a mind that is active rather then passive an intelligence that takes joy in its own function reaching out toward relevant facts rather than withdrawing from them being concerned to know “ where I am” relative to your various personal and professional goals and projects, (are you succeeding or failing) searching for feedback from the environment so as so to adjust or correct your course when necessary being receptive to new knowledge and willing to re-examine old assumptions being willing to see and correct mistakes seeking always to expand awareness-commitment to learning-therefore, a commitment to growth as a way of life a concern to understand the world a concern to know your self, your needs, feelings, aspirations and motives so that you are not a stranger to yourself
2. The practice of Self-Acceptance • • •
expressed through your willingness to accept what you think and feel, what you have done and who you are it is a willingness to experience rather than to disown it is the virtue of realism
