The most common question I am asked when clients come into the office these days is about how the upcoming presidential election will affect their investments. Truth be told, the markets hate uncertainty. With a change in political power, Americans are left with a feeling of uncertainty. Like no other political contest in recent memory, the nation is transfixed on the 2016 presidential election. While Main Street looks to the fall campaign with great anticipation, many investors do not. When you step into the voting booth, you should consider which candidate is not only the right person for the nation, but your personal finances as well. Indeed, this is the Politics of Investing. Today’s issues of energy, terrorism, healthcare, race relations, and gun control can seem very daunting. As President Harry Truman told us, “The United States has always anticipated the future with courage and excitement.” As investors we have experienced firsthand extremely difficult times. From assassinations, to wars, acts of violence, oil embargoes, and crippling

conversations, the election is still many MONTHS away. Moving forward, be prepared for a change in political power. It will happen whether you are ready or not. Review your investments now and determine what changes, if any, need to be made to prepare yourself. Plan to take advantage of opportunities in the market. recessions, our great nation has faced unimaginable circumstances. Whether it is Trump, Bernie, or Clinton this fall here are some facts to keep in mind: Don’t listen to the peanut gallery. The debates and elections bring a multitude of “what if” scenarios to the forefront. Will ObamaCare be done away with? Are taxes going to be on the rise? What will happen to my investment accounts? Which bathroom can I use? Relying solely on assumptions can result in impulsive financial behaviors. Being a financial planner, I air on the side of caution. I don’t recommend basing decisions on speculation. Have a plan, and stick to your plan. Plan to take advantage of opportunities in the market. Be a high flyer! Policies will come and go, and there is no changing that. While this topic is a focal point of many

Tulsa County Fair The annual event encourages all ages to show off their creative skills By Erica Ludwig To the members of OHCE and 4-H, the Tulsa County Fair is the best kept secret in Tulsa. This annual event, set for July 21-22, encourages people to show their handiwork and skills in various categories such as painting, photography and quiltwork. The annual fair is sure to please the masses with a vast amount of baked goods, a petting zoo, live music, an ice cream social and much more. Mark your calendars

– this is a perfect opportunity to spend some fun quality time with family and friends. The Tulsa County Fair kicks off Tuesday the 19th. The first evening of the fair will be open for those wishing to enter their goods from 4-7 p.m. “People come and see what they can make, what they can enter,” said Julaine Farless, cochair of the Tulsa County Fair and OHCE Tulsa County President.

4-H Ice Cream Social The Tulsa County 4-H will finish off the fair festivities with an ice cream social. All proceeds will go to the Tulsa County 4-H volunteer organization to help with programming and scholarships. The Ice Cream Social takes place from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the Exchange Center on the Tulsa State Faigrounds. General admission cost is $3 which includes ice cream with all the toppings. There wil be live music and various talents performed by the 4-H kids. 4-H will also have a silent auction with different gift baskets or individual items. The kids involved with this program are active participants in the fair, doing make and take projects with those who come through. This event is important for 4-H, since the Tulsa County Fair and the Ice Cream Social are the organization’s largest fundraisers of the year. Tulsa County 4-H uses the proceeds to fund scholarships as well as programming. Some of the kids involved with this program attend Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington D.C. and also travel to Denver, Colorado for the Western Livestock show. Proceeds from fundraisers help them get there. Come treat your sweet tooth and support a great cause.

but lacked confidence and skills. He came to the company in 2015 and enrolled in TulsaWORKS career readiness training to gain basic interviewing skills. He then completed the employment essentials class and learned how to market himself. Upon completing TulsaWORKS private security training, Jeremiah found employment as a security guard at St. Simeon’s and loves his job. Through the Goodwill’s Savings Match program, Jeremiah has his own car and is saving to purchase a home. Trenton Swafford, Graduate of the Year award recipient, was diagnosed with a benign bone tumor in his femur and was told he would never walk again. He proved them wrong. Goodwill provides work opportunities, job training and support services for people with disabilities or other employment barriers. They envision a community where all people have

dropped out in the 11th grade. He was also diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome which added new challenges. Trenton told an Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services counselor that he wanted to earn his GED and get a job. He was directed Goodwill’s Transition Services Program for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as their GED program. Trenton learned valuable social skills, gained confidence and tackled his fears of being around people. He helped fellow students succeed and became a role model himself. Trenton earned his GED, graduated with honors in math and history and spoke at the graduation ceremony. While Trenton was waiting in the lobby for a job interview with Red Lobster, he noticed a customer who needed assistance and sprang into action. The manager saw what happened and the first two words in the interview were, “You’re hired.” Jimmy Rainwater was recognized as Employee of the Year. Due to gross neglect, malnourishment and failure to thrive, Jimmy was removed from his biological family and placed into foster care when he

was a toddler. He was featured on KTUL-TV’s weekly segment, “A Waiting Child”. The night it aired, Clara Sue Rainwater and her husband recognized Jimmy who had attended a class with one of their three daughters. After a short discussion, the Rainwaters decided they would like to add a son to the family and Jimmy was adopted. He grew into an energetic, enthusiastic young man and has been a Goodwill employee for 15 years. In his second year he was craving a more challenging job and transitioned to Goodwill’s Group Worksites program at Hillcrest Hospital where he is a cardboard baler. He loves his work, co-workers and the Hillcrest staff and they love his upbeat, friendly and outgoing personality. Security Bank was honored as Community Partner for 2015. Bank President and CEO Dawne Stafford received the award on the company’s behalf. Carol Burnett, an awardwinning actress and best-selling author, is widely recognized by the public and her peers for her work for her comedic and dramatic roles on television, film, and Broadway, most notably “The Carol Burnett Show.” Named in 2007 by TIME magazine as one of “100 Best Television Shows of All Time,” “The Carol Burnett Show” ran for 11 years, averaged 30 million viewers per week, and received 25 Emmy Awards, making it one of the most honored shows in television history. Early in her career, while performing at the Blue Angel nightclub in New York City, she was spotted by talent bookers from both “The Jack Paar Show” and “The Ed Sullivan Show” and was invited to perform her infamous rendition of “I Made a Fool of Myself Over John Foster

Dulles,” written by Ken Welch. Shortly thereafter, she landed the leading role of Princess Winifred in the original Broadway musical production of “Once Upon a Mattress.” In 1959, after guest spots on Garry Moore’s morning television show she became a permanent cast member on “The Garry Moore Show,” taping the show during the day and performing “Mattress” at night for the remainder of its Broadway run. She remained a regular on Garry Moore for the next four years. During this period, Carol met Julie Andrews and the two became close friends. After the duo appeared in their Emmywinning special, “Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall,” CBS took notice of this emerging new talent and signed her to a 10-year contract. On September 11, 1967, “The Carol Burnett Show” premiered on CBS. With a talented ensemble featuring Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner with costumes by Bob Mackie and musical sketches by Buz Kohan, Bill Angelos, Artie Malvin and Ken and Mitzie Welch, the show became a hit. Ms. Burnett’s film credits include playing Miss Hannigan

in the film version of the musical, “Annie,” directed by John Huston; “Noises Off,” directed by Peter Bogdanovich; “A Wedding,” directed by Robert Altman; and “Four Seasons,” directed by Alan Alda. On Broadway she recently starred in A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” (2014), opposite Brian Dennehy, “Fade Out, Fade In,” with book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green with music by Jule Styne; Stephen Sondheim’s musical review “Putting It Together;” and Ken Ludwig’s farce “Moon Over Buffalo,” co-starring with Philip Bosco. Black Music Month began in 1979 when Kenny Gamble, Ed Wright, and Dyana Williams developed the idea to set aside a month dedicated to celebrating the impact of black music. Created by music business insiders, the group successfully lobbied President Jimmy Carter to host a reception on June 7th, 1979 to formally recognize the cultural and financial contributions of the music genre. Since 1979, Black Music Month has grown from a small commemoration to national proportions with events held annually across the country. In June 2014, Muskogee, Oklahoma was proud to announce its inaugural celebration of Black Music Month, the first of its kind in the state of Oklahoma. The opening artist for this new, exciting event was Eldredge Jackson and Listening Pleasure along with Starr Fisher and Band. Cassandra Gaines, Diversity and Cultural Liaison for the City

of Muskogee, was honored to receive a letter of endorsement for this event from Governor Mary Fallin. The concert

was also shared via live video broadcast to the men and women of the United States Military serving overseas.

On June 25, 2016 the City of Muskogee will hosting the Third Annual Black Music Month Celebration at

Hatbox Field. Are You Living Independently Successfully? Seniors living alone at home may not realize there are guidelines that can help them measure their effectiveness to live independently. The first set of guidelines or list of activities are labeled IADL and the second set is labeled ADL. Let’s take a moment to review both sets of activities. Make notes of what activities you are not doing or cannot do. This is an easy self assessment. Independent Activities of Daily Living (IADL) are the guidelines for determining if seniors are living at home successfully independent. These activities include safely driving, managing finances, shopping, preparing nutritious meals, using the telephone, managing medications, and maintaining the home by doing housework and basic maintenance. How are you handling transportation needs? Are you driving safely? Have you had accidents? Using public transportation effectively? Are you confused in traffic when off your normal routes? In managing your finances, are your bills consistently paid on time? Do you have a budget you follow? Are there unpaid bills or messages from creditors despite having enough funds? When shopping are you able to prepare a list, shop, and load and unload the car? Do you run out or have excessive amounts of essential household items? Are you relying on others to shop for you? Preparing nutritious meals keeps seniors healthy and strong. Do you occasionally skip meals or choose meals with little nutritional value? Are you using foods before the expiration dates and throwing out foods past the “Use by” date? Cell phones are both a blessing and a curse! Are you able to answer the phone consistently and return voicemail messages? Can you see the numbers to dial? Are you limiting social interaction because you are frustrated with the phone? How are you managing your medications? Do you have a system to ensure you take your medications on time and in the proper dosage? Do you forget to take your medications? Do you have a system for refilling your medications at the pharmacy? Maintaining your home means you are not letting trash accumulate, your house is

reasonably clean and you are making minor repairs as needed. Do you take your trash out on a regular basis? Is the kitchen kept tidy with no spoiled food? If a minor repair such as tightening a handle on a door is needed can you do it or are you able to get that done? Activities of Daily Living (ADL) are used by state agencies and determine whether seniors should be living alone. You should be aware that the ability to accomplish most of these activities is considered a true measure of your ability to age in place. There are five activities deemed the most important: Mobility sometimes called Ambulation, Eating, Toileting, Dressing, and Bathing, sometimes called Grooming. The additional risk factor is Falling which is usually asked in conjunction with reviewing the ADLs. If you want to age in place you must try to retain your mobility. Can you get up from a chair or bed? Are you unsteady when you walk? Do you sway back and forth when you walk? If so, can you use a walker or cane for support? Are you able to propel your wheelchair? When eating are you able to cut up your own food? Are you still using utensils to eat? Does someone have to feed you? As we age, incontinence can be a problem. Can you manage without having accidents during the day? Are you soiling the bed at night? Are you able to wear adult incontinence products and dispose of them properly? Can you get dressed appropriately for the day? Are you mis-buttoning or wearing the same clothes every day? Are you clothes clean? Do you need help choosing clothes? Are you bathing regularly without being reminded? Are you unkempt? Are you keeping your teeth clean? Does someone have to assist you when bathing? Finally review your past year focusing on falls or injuries that may have occurred. Have you fallen in the past year? Past 6 months? Have you been hospitalized due to a fall? Studies show that injuries due to falls are the number one reason people have to move from their homes. Reviewing the IADLs and the ADLs can help you self assess and become aware of your limitations or your successes. If you are

Route 66 Blowout : History in the Making

Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum to open as crowd attendance grows

By Erica Ludwig Summer is usually a cause for celebration because school is out for a few months, but it carries a bigger meaning in Sapulpa. The Route 66 Blowout is returning for a 27th year of fun, food and of course, cars. The annual event will be held on Saturday, June 4, in the heart of downtown Sapulpa. The Route 66 Blowout is known around the country. Locals as well as visitors from other states plan their vacations around this event on historic Route 66. They come to see

one of the largest car and truck shows in the region with entertainment and activities for the whole family. There are over 300 cars to see as well as vintage tractors, crafts and museums. Thousands descend upon the town to socialize, shop and take in the sights. The blowout is truly a community affair, sponsored by local businesses, showcasing local artists and vendors, and coordinated by Sapulpa Main Street, with proceeds going toward beautification of the downtown district.

The Route 66 Blowout is one of the largest car and truck shows in the region with over 300 cars of all makes, years and models.

“I love being on Route 66 and just seeing people having a good time,” says Cindy McDonald, executive director. “They’re enjoying the cars, they’re seeing old friends that they have not seen in a long time or so, or maybe they only see each other down here once a year, the kids with their sno cones and running and having fun, it’s just a fun, family event. The event is well-known for its car show, showcasing classic and modern cars and trucks. “Last year we had over 300 cars,” said McDonald. “You want the show to grow, you want people to have fun. So to me that was kind of a big goal that we hit last year and we really want to hit it again this year. ” Entries will compete for bragging rights and prizes. Registration is available online or the morning of the event at 7 a.m. The Dragin Masters – a car club based in Sapulpa with roots dating back to 1958 – will judge the contest. The street will be filled with art, crafts and food. Sapulpa Arts will host their annual Route 66 Art Show and Sale, featuring local artists. The Historic museum will also be open that day. While taking in the automotive blast from the past,

With impending medical reimbursement rate cuts coming to an already inadequately funded health care system, this summer may see the end of health care as we know it in Oklahoma. This is not a threat – it is reality. Oklahoma is on the verge of a statewide system failure that will hurt everyone, risk lives and damage the state. Hospital administrators and health care professionals have been warning about the deepening health care crisis for months. The state has experienced two revenue failures – months when it cannot pay its bills – during this fiscal year. In addition, with Oklahoma facing a $1.3 billion budget hole for next year, the agency that administers the state’s Medicaid program is planning for devastating provider rate cuts beginning June 1. Previous cuts have already taken a heavy toll. Additional cuts of any size will force physicians to turn away patients on Medicaid. With an expected cut of 25 percent, at least a dozen hospitals will shut down within a year. More than 90 percent of Oklahoma nursing homes will close, pushing at least 16,000 disabled and elderly Oklahomans onto the
