A Pet’s Paradise Be Holiday Photo Ready Sapulpa dog boarding provides modern facility in country setting. By Jillian Moore Route 66 Dog Ranch has been providing an oasis in the country since March 2016. Your family dog has 64,880 square feet to run freely and safely at the Sapulpa facility while you’re on vacation. Stefanie Lorbiecki is the proud owner of this state-ofthe-art dog boarding ranch located in Sapulpa, OK. She and her facility manager, Nicole Young, provide dog daycare, boarding and training. Daycare pricing ranges from $12 to $17 per day and boarding costs $30 for the first

dog, $25 for the second and $20 for an additional dog. Dogs are taken outside five times a day and go to bed in a soundproof facility at 8 p.m. They can even give your dog a quick nail trim, ear cleaning and bath before you pick them up from their stay. Along with daycare and boarding, the Route 66 Dog Ranch provides training in many areas such as problem dog training, service dog training, agility and obedience. According to Lorbiecki, Young is a natural with the dogs. “She’s taught several of her (continued on page 22)

Spice Up Your Holiday Meal Cajun Style Tulsa’s premier cajun restaurant is ready to serve you.

By Deanna Rebro Once again Hebert’s Specialty Meats is ready to take orders for those extra special Cajun style Thanksgiving dinners. Many a table will include favorite holiday meats with just the right amount of spicy seasonings to add a little heat to every mouthwatering bite.

Ed “Cajun Ed” Richard, owner of the restaurant, says he is pleased to fill orders for the same customers he has had for nearly 20 years. “Some people have ordered meats from us every holiday,” the Louisiana native recalls. “Some want a little adventure in their meal with a few things to add a different flavor.”

Cajun Ed provides wonderful specialty meats and other delicacies authentic to New Orleans. This is real Cajun food made by real Cajun folks who make every meal a celebration. Hebert’s has it all. Choose from turducken, stuffed boneless turkey, stuffed turkey breast, spiral ham with honey or Cajun honey

Louisiana native Ed “Cajun Ed” Richard has been cooking real Cajun food in Tulsa for nearly 20 years.

through Wednesday. Orders can be placed over the phone or online. A handy guide helps choose the right sizes for the number of people you’ll be serving. They can also pack food for you if you are traveling. Ed urges customers to order early so they won’t run out of anything. Pick up your order hot and ready to serve to your guests on Wednesday, the 23rd, or fully cooked and ready to heat up Thanksgiving day. Thinking ahead for holiday gifts, Hebert’s carries Cajun cookbooks featuring dishes from a variety of Louisiana regions. There are lots of unusual kitchen items, too, as well as gift cards and online gift certificates. You don’t have to wait for the holiday. Hebert’s is open Monday through Thursday, from 10 to 8 and Friday and Saturday until 9 for lunch and dinner. “Try us once and you’ll be hooked,” says Ed.

SStep Back Into History

The 18th annual Bethlehem Walk, a free guided outdoor walk through an exciting and realistic nativity, will be held December 1-4 at Christview Christian Church.

By Vicky Bowlin Experience the true story of Christmas at Christview Christian Church’s Bethlehem Walk, a free outdoor walk through a living nativity. Christview Christian Church, located at 2525 S. Garnett in Tulsa, is pleased to present the 18th annual Bethlehem Walk to the community. The Bethlehem Walk is a 45-minute guided

outdoor walking tour through an exciting and realistic nativity scene. The path is lighted, and golf carts are available for those who are handicapped or disabled. Performances will be held Thursday and Friday, December 1 and 2 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The presentation features a cast of more than 150

authentically dressed Roman soldiers, beggars, lepers, heavenly angels, shepherds, and Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child. The church maintains a costume room with hundreds of costumes made as authentically as possible. Live camels, sheep and donkeys add to the authenticity of the greatest story ever told. Reservations are requested, and large groups are welcome. Admission is free. The Bethlehem Walk attracts thousands of attendees each year from a multi-state area. Individuals and groups congregate in the church’s auditorium. Our communities honor veterans with parades, lunches and memorable festivities.

By Seana Warren

Cities and local organizations around Green Country have planned events for this Veterans Day to make sure our gratitude continues for those living and who have passed. Tulsa hosts one of the biggest Veterans Day parades in the United States. This year, ten thousand people are expected at the event. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at 3rd and Boston and winds its way around downtown before ending near 6th and Detroit. Claremore will also host many events to host local veterans including the annual Claremore Navy Jr. ROTC unit U.S. flag retirement ceremony at the EXPO at 10 a.m. The Claremore Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11. beginning at exactly 11:11 a.m. at the Expo Center, the parade will march down Will Rogers Blvd., finishing at the gazebo.

Take time on November 11 to honor our veterans with gratitude.

Following the parade, a free lunch to all veterans and their families will be hosted at the Claremore American Legion Post, located at 1495 West Highway 88. The City of Collinsville’s theme for this Veterans Day is “What is Veterans Day?” They invite local community members to participate in viewing the parade on Friday November 11th at 11:00 a.m.. The parade will go south on Route 159 (Vandalia Street) ending at the American Legion Post 365.

A luncheon will be held for all veterans following the parade at 12:00 noon inside the Veterans Memorial Building located at 903 West Main Street in Collinsville. Re-dedication of the Veterans Memorial Building., including unveiling of the beautiful bronze memorials statues, will begin at 2:00 p.m. The public many join an open house and reception following the dedication. Check with your local governments and Veterans organizations about events in your area.

A Pet’s Paradise dogs, and some people who have boarded here have had dogs who had problems with aggression or jumping,” Lorbiecki said. “She’s worked with those dogs, and even during the short time they boarded here, she’s been able to correct their problems.” Both the facility and caretakers can handle dogs of all shapes and sizes. Even pets with special needs are going to be welcome and well taken

care of. Lorbiecki personally owns eight dogs ranging from ages 1 to 14. She guarantees that her personal experience handling that many dogs gives her the knowledge necessary to care for ones with special needs. “They’ve had the gamut of physical problems: arthritis, thyroid problems, allergies, hearing loss and seizures,” Lorbiecki explains. “So I’ve

continued from page 1 been through a lot.” Lorbiecki also lives onsite. This accessibility to the boarding facility also allows her to keep a closer eye on the dogs than some other owners could do living offsite. It also allows for very accommodating pickup and drop-off times. Dogs can be dropped off after 7 a.m. and picked up anytime. Route 66 Dog Ranch has both the facilities and services that make it stand out to its

customers, but at the end of the day, it’s the care dogs receive that really wins people, and their dogs, over. “I’ve been interviewed and people will come here and then go see four or five other places and they come back here,” Lorbiecki explains. “They all say the same thing. They say, ‘This is where my dog is going to be loved the most.’ I say, ‘Thank you and that’s exactly right.’”

Be Holiday Photo Ready treatment is available that are changing the double chin game forever. “We are excited to offer the new FDA approved injection called KYBELLA™ at BA Med Spa & Weight Loss Center,” said Melody Spacek. KYBELLA™ is the first injectable treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to specifically address excess fat under the chin, or submental fullness. KYBELLA™ contains a molecule called deoxycholic acid, which occurs naturally in the human body. Deoxycholic acid essentially destroys fat cells, and KYBELLA™ utilizes the molecule to do just

that in targeted areas of the chin. Once the excess fat cells have broken down, they will be gradually filtered from the body through natural metabolic processes. Absolutely no surgery or extended recovery times are involved. The inoffice procedure is usually completed in about 15 to 20 minutes. “With KYBELLA™ you will begin to see results immediately. For best results, two to four treatments are required and can each be done 30 days apart,” adds Melody. KYBELLA™ may be right for you if: • You’re bothered (unhappy, self-conscious,

embarrassed) by fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness • You feel the condition makes you look older or heavier than you actually are • You don’t want to have surgery • You eat well and exercise, but submental fullness does not go away The treatment is completely safe, as it is made by Allergan, the same company that brought you Botox™. This treatment is a fairly quick proceure for those with no down time, guaranteeing immediate results for a chiseled jawline. The team at BA Med Spa

has been working with the product for a year now, and to celebrate they are offering a holiday special. Hurry and make an appointment to start KYBELLA™ and get a second treatment free. “We’re the top med spa with KYBELLA™,” said Marketing Director Alyssa Hobbs. “We want the best for our clients so they are not only satisfied, but safe.” Highly trained RNs and PAs perform the treatments so you can love the photos your in for the holidays. “We’re so excited that Kybella has taken off,” says Owner Malissa Spacek. “It’s been so successful over the

breathing problems to be in the house.” The only organization you need to do to prepare for the Gleam Guard team is open your door and let them in your kitchen. “In other words, there is no need to empty your cabinets, remove cabinet hardware, cover your furniture or anything else – we take care of it all,” said Tracy. The entire Gleam Guard process takes only one to two days to complete, so your kitchen can be transformed in time for the holidays. Tracy and his professional craftsmen have been providing Gleam Guard Dust Free Wood Refinishing in Tulsa area homes for over 25 years. They have perfected their skill, timing and

It is because of our hometown people in the Tulsa area that we were able to expand and help families across the country beautify their homes, including Kansas City, Branson, Northwest Washington and Canada,” he says. The Gleam Guard team is ready and eager to make many more Tulsa area homes look their best. There is still time to have kitchen cabinets refinished in as little as a day. Whole house projects, which include kitchen and bath cabinets, baseboards, doors, moldings, paneling and just about any other vertical wood surface can be done in three

to five days. The Gleam Guard crew will be in and out, without interruptions or breakaways. Their work area, when finished, will look like no one was there. Aftercare is as simple as wiping with a damp cloth. Tracy says when people see the difference Gleam Guard has made in friends’ or relatives’ homes, they are sold. Even those considering new cabinets or refacing old cabinets frequently decide on Gleam Guard Dust Free Wood Refinishing instead. It’s the sensible solution that makes a big difference. “I love to show people how they can save money and still have beautiful wood finishes that look like new,” says Tracy.

Clinical Hypnotherapy: A Natural Solution Non prescription solutions to lose weight, relieve stress and stop smoking. By Jillian Moore

For James Browning, clinical hypnotherapy is more than a career - it’s a way of life. Before opening Browning Clinical Hypnotherapy three years ago, he spent decades as a manager in the media business, but later discovered a passion for helping people. This led Browning to an advanced education at the oldest hypnotherapy school in the United States.

“I love what I do,” Browning said. “No work I’ve ever done has rocked my world and been as richly satisfying as my hypnotherapy practice”. Browning has been interested in hypnotherapy since he bought his first book on the subject when he was 14. He has continued learning about the methods and has used self-hypnosis throughout his life. “I used self-hypnosis for improving my own life and getting

Clinical Hypnotherapist James Browning is dedicated to helping people. From working through anxiety to helping with weight loss, he assures that his methods are helpful to clients from various backgrounds.

on a better track,” Browning explains. “It helped me quit smoking. I used self-hypnosis recordings and at the same time I was helping other friends. So that’s how I learned it works.” Browning has been managing people and his own professional time since the early age of 23. This experience helped make the transition to self employment a smooth one. According to Browning, the flexibility he gets from owning and operating his own practice is ideal. He sets his own schedule to allow for volunteer work for a local hospice organization whose patients he helps with anxiety and severe pain management. Rarely does he turn anyone away from his practice and those demonstrating genuine need but having limited resources may receive his help on a sliding scale. Browning assures regardless of a person’s circumstances, no one goes away worse off after attending a hypnotherapy session. The vast majority goes away a lot better to greatly improved after a few sessions. Hypnotherapy has also been proven effective for tobacco cessation, managing weight, headache reduction, pain

management and those suffering from PTSD. For those who think they can’t achieve hypnosis, they’ve been living based on a myth, according to Browning. “I love somebody who tells me they can’t be hypnotized,” Browning said. “They’re among the easiest. Any absolute belief like that can be turned around in hypnotherapy.” And for people worrying about what they may say or do while in a session, Browning assures that a patient wouldn’t do anything in hypnosis that they wouldn’t do outside of it. “It’s a natural state. Have you ever driven a car for a few minutes and couldn’t remember it?” Browning asked. “That’s stage one. Anytime your subconscious mind is somewhere else and you’re functioning at kind of an automatic level, you’re in hypnosis.” Browning’s clients will often walk in with a certain problem and eventually discover a memory or feeling that leads their mind down a totally different path. For example, a client could come in for weight management, but after a few sessions, discover an unhappy marriage where they subconsciously

used weight gain to avoid intimacy. Dealing with any underlying issues often requires a psychologist, especially in the cases of trauma or abuse. During a session, Browning helps patients with the feelings in the subconscious, but will refer them to a psychologist to work through their new discovery. For those unsure if hypnotherapy is right for them, Browning offers a free 30-minute consultation by appointment where he gets to know about a potential client to see if hypnosis is a good fit for a client’s issues. Browning’s clients will attend anywhere from three to five sessions to get the most results out of clinical hypnotherapy and will often come back for other behaviors and habits they’d like to fix or improve.

AA Decade of Gratitude Indian-Asian Restaurant Offers Fast-Casual Dining and Homemade Indian Cuisine.

By Jillian Moore

Desi Wok Indian Asian Grill has the perfect recipe for staying one of Tulsa’s favorite restaurants for more than 10 years.

From homemade ingredients to superior customer service, Desi Wok’s long run of success can be attributed to the delicious

Labrena Shamsi, owner of Desi Wok, thrives on the feedback of customers. It’s their honest words that help her success.

cuisine and positive customer service that Labrena Shamsi, owner and operator, provides to her patrons. Shamsi left her career in accounting almost 10 years ago and has been running the eatery since January 2007. It’s no secret in the restaurant industry that staying in business and remaining popular among your customers is a challenge. Shamsi knows that listening to feedback from her customers is critical to keeping them happy, with nearly a decade of successful entrepreneurship under her belt. “I think communication, especially with our regulars, is important,” Shamsi said. “We let them know that if they’re unhappy with something, they can tell us and we’ll fix it right away. Good, bad, ugly, I want to hear it.” She also makes sure to consider all tastes and diets when updating the diverse menu. At Desi Wok, dishes are made to order with homemade ingredients and can be customized to the

diner’s taste. This involves their choice of mild, medium or hot flavors and spices, while also allowing them to substitute ingredients according to their diet. “We make our own cheese, yogurt and sauces and several batches of dough daily for our fresh naan,” Shamsi explains. “Not only can we cater to whether they want mild, medium, or hot, but we can also cater to vegetarians, vegans and those who are gluten sensitive because everything comes from our own hands, and we know what goes into it.” While food may get people in the door, any smart businessperson can’t forget that staff members who provide excellent customer service are priceless. “Keeping a consistent staff has benefited me,” Shamsi said. “My staff will stay with me for many years, which means the taste will be the same in the kitchen and service level is always the same in the front.” Whether you want the

Chicken Tikka Masala or the Meat Ball Kofta, customers have plenty of options from which to choose when ordering Desi Wok’s mouthwatering dishes. Service is available by dining in, carry out, purchasing party platters or ordering online through Mr. Delivery. Desi Wok is located in the Highland Plaza shopping center near 41st Street and Interstate 44.
