Insure Your Garage Door with Scheduled Maintenance Preventive maintenance helps keep your garage door functioning properly while increasing its lifespan. By Duane Blankenship
If your garage door opener has gotten excessively noisy and is creaking and groaning, it might need a checkup. Can you remember the last time you had it serviced? Superior Overhead Door owner Steve Lewis says, “Unfortunately, most homeowners do not have their garage door systems serviced until something breaks or the door falls off the hinges. A little preventive maintenance goes a long way in keeping doors operating properly and could prevent a costly repair.” Steve recommends lubricating springs, rollers and hinges at six month intervals with a quality lubricant developed specifically for garage door systems to improve performance and extend the life on chain-,
belt- and screw-driven systems. The product lubricates and protects, stops rust and corrosion, loosens frozen parts, and displaces moisture. This is something Superior Overhead Door can apply for you, or you can do it yourself. Garage door openers usually break down during the temperature fluctuations of winter and summer, so now is a good time to have them inspected and serviced if needed. Garage door springs have a life expectancy of five to six years, and it’s better to replace them before rather than after they break. “When you do need a spring replacement,” said Tammy Lewis, “we offer the option of an extended-life spring that extends spring life from the usual 10,000 cycles (open and close) to 25,000 cycles.” The price difference is not significant and is well worth it
Superior Overhead Door owners Steve and Tammy Lewis offer quality products and exemplary service throughout northeastern Oklahoma.

Forever and Ever, Amen. Tips to investing every day in your relationship. BY MELANIE HASTYGRANT Instead of discussing investments in the stock market, this month let’s look at another type of investment. Investments in the ones you love. C.S. Lewis once said, “There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken.” Such it is with all types of investing, right?! Marriage ain’t all about glitter and pearls. It is about love. Katharine Hepburn once said, “Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get – only with what you are expecting to give – which is everything.” There is really no greater investment because where you invest your love, you invest your life. So, diamonds may not be a girl’s best friend after all. With Valentine’s Day on the near horizon, and all the commercialization that goes along with it, here are some practical tips to investing in the ones you love on a daily basis. • Be completely present and give your full attention at least for a little while every single day. This means focusing on your partner without the distractions of TVs, iPhones, Facebook, and Pinterest. To stay grounded and
connected to each other, you may try asking your spouse, “What are three things you felt today?” And then share yours as well. • Consciously focus on the positive things about your partner and show your appreciation. Begin by making an effort to compliment and/or thank your spouse several times a day. Letting someone know how much you love and appreciate them is an amazing, joy-generating gift. When you feel cherished and loved, you will likely respond in kind. • Make physical contact every single day. This can be a kiss, a hug, or cuddling on the couch. Couples need physical touch to create healthy emotional connections. Otherwise, they are more like roommates or two ships that pass in the night. This can potentially devastate a marriage. • Pray together. This keeps

the relationship focused and embraces the spiritual component to marriage. Hearing your spouse pray over you, and you them, creates a special bond and intimacy. Love is an unconditional commitment to an imperfect person. To love somebody isn’t just a strong feeling. It is a decision, a judgment and a promise. You are responsible for finding ways to let your partner know that you love them. In addition to the above recommendations, talk to your spouse about how they feel loved. Utilize resources available to you. The 5 Love Languages website has a really informative tool to help you understand best how you and your spouse feel loved. It’s easy and it’s free. This year try focusing on creating and investing in experiences and your relationships instead of things. I think you will find it’s the best investment of all. Brush Up on Dental Health for Kids February is National Children’s Dental Health month and time for check-ups for most children. By Dr. Steven White According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease among children in the United States. A whopping 40 percent of children have decay by the time they reach kindergarten! As a parent, establishing good dental habits in your children today will ensure that they have fewer problems in the future – throughout every stage of development and well into adulthood. The sooner children begin getting regular dental checkups, the healthier their mouths will stay throughout their lives. Early checkups help prevent cavities and tooth decay, which can lead to pain, trouble concentrating and other medical issues. Kids with healthy teeth chew food easily, speak more clearly and smile with confidence. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a dental checkup at least twice a year for
most children. Some children need more frequent dental visits because of increased risk of tooth decay, unusual growth patterns or poor oral hygiene. Why are twice-a-year visits important? Regular dental visits help your child stay cavity-free and are important for preventive health care. Teeth cleanings remove the debris that builds up on the teeth, irritate the gums and cause decay. Fluoride treatments renew the fluoride content in the enamel, strengthening teeth and preventing cavities. At White Smile Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we accept patients 3 and older. During the exam, we will discuss your child’s diet and oral hygiene habits, and I will demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques. After gently examining your child’s teeth, oral tissues and jaws, the teeth will be cleaned and polished. A dental exam for children might include application of various protective measures — such as sealants or fluoride treatments — to reduce the risk of decay. It might also include digital x-rays or other diagnostic procedures. Parents can encourage their children to enjoy good dental health with regular dental exams and these tips: • Beware of frequent snacking • Brush effectively twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste • Floss once a day • Have sealants applied when appropriate • Assure proper fluoride through drinking water, fluoride products or fluoride supplements Kids and parents – it’s important to visit your dentist regularly your whole life.
Dentists can detect small problems before they become bigger, more painful problems. Your child could have oral health problems you don’t know about like cavities or developmental issues with teeth not coming in or forming correctly. And getting your child's teeth cleaned regularly is a great opportunity for them to learn the best way to take care of their teeth.

White Smile Cosmetic & Family Dentistry offers complete family dental services.
By Duane Blankenship
Steven White, D.D.S., is the owner of White Smile Cosmetic & Family Dentistry. The practice offers a full range of services, from dentistry for children to advanced procedures for adults including clear braces, implants, aesthetic dentistry and full-mouth rehabilitation. Dr. White and his staff strive to make each patient feel that they are part of the White Smile family. “Modern technology plays a huge role in White Smile’s ability to deliver state-of-theart dental services,” says Dr. White. “We utilize digital X-rays, photography, lasers and cad-cam technology, enabling us to place crowns and veneers in one appointment with no messy impressions needed.” “Advertising, dental insurance and franchise dental clinics have made it difficult for patients to maintain a consistent relationship with one office,” he adds. White Smile hopes their friendliness and thoroughness give patients the confidence to return whenever they need dental services.
White Smile is committed to making quality dental care affordable to area families. “It is reported that more than 60% of Americans don’t have dental insurance because they feel they cannot afford it,” says Dr. White. “A CBS News Report stated that dental decay is a contributing factor in many seemingly unrelated problems including heart disease and childhood school absences. It’s not unusual for a child to experience chronic pain because a simple cavity is not caught and treated in time. Third parties – insurance companies, claims form administrators and collection costs – are eating up much of the money you pay for dental care. Through regular exams and preventive procedures including cleanings and fluoride treatments, most potential dental problems are detected early and effectively treated. This inherently saves the patient money, much more than if they wait to receive treatment after the problem has become an issue.” When Dr. White found
that families were spending hundreds of dollars for treatments that could have been avoided by early detection through routine checkups, he put a tailored plan into action that is available to dentists across the country. QDP (Quality Dental Plan) is simple and ingenious. “White Smile is now offering free exams, free teeth cleanings with all necessary exams, and 20% off most dental procedures by offering our own inhouse dental savings plan,” explains Dr. White. “QDP has eliminated the insurance company middle man and their huge profits, and is putting the savings into the pockets of patients.” With QDP, you and your family have no reason to avoid recommended check-ups and cleanings. “The premiums individuals or employers pay for dental insurance more than covers the cost of two cleanings, exams and preventive care with White Smile,” says Dr. White. “We hope that the cost savings potential of QDP makes sense

FFinancial Education for Generations
Financial Advisor Linda Rainwater opened her new company, Generation Income Strategies, in January. your financial goals. By Sheryl Sowell
Financial Advisor Linda Rainwater is proud to announce the opening of her new financial services business, Generation Income Strategies, an independent firm.
Linda Rainwater, as a financial advisor for Raymond James, is excited to announce the opening of her new company, Generation Income Strategies. Linda has been successfully investing for many clients since 2003. Linda’s primary goal has always been to help generations of families learn to invest and be financially successful. She has a passion for teaching money matters to people of all ages – from young children on up. The key to Linda’s success as a financial advisor has been her focus on investing in client relationships. “Building longterm relationships with clients is critical to serving their needs.” Linda’s father, George, began teaching her about money matters at the age of 5 years old. While in college, he
insisted she invest $2,000 on her slim budget. She did just as he said. Today, those same principles have influenced and paved the way for her present knowledge base of investing for the future. Everyone has different goals for financial achievement. There is not a “one size fits all” plan in the finance business. Linda lays out strategies and plans for each family, including the children and grandchildren – teaching and tutoring each person along the way. “All aspects of my business are aligned to help me better understand and meet my clients’ unique goals and needs. Before I recommend investments, I look to where you are financially and discuss with you where you want to go, so I can help you get there,” says Linda. Making a plan and sticking to it is an important step on your road to meeting

Save the Date: 18th Annual Creek County Spelling Bee Date Set The 18th Annual Spelling Bee benefits Creek County Literacy Program.
By Melissa M. Struttmann
event – Creek County Literacy Program’s Annual Spelling Bee is Thursday, April 7, 6
p.m. at Sapulpa High School Commons. Back for the 18th year, the Spelling Bee will no doubt be another crazy, wordchurning and fun-filled spelling competition. BEE Back at Prom is 2016’s theme. From which High School Prom decade will YOUR team come dressed? Do your team members fancy the 1920’s Gatsby-era? How about the 1930’s Hollywoodstyle, or the 1940’s Classic decade? The 1950’s began Vintage and ended Sock-Hop, and the 1960’s had its share of Bouffant and Retro styles. Do your team members like the 1970’s Funky or the 1980’s Poptastic looks? Get registered today—it’s time to glam up and sharpen your spelling skills for the 18th Annual Spelling Bee! “Funds raised from the Bee furthers our Mission, which is to encourage, educate and equip aspiring readers to overcome the barriers of illiteracy,” explained Melissa Struttmann, Executive Dick Loftin, senior producer and evening news host with KRMG Director of Creek County and Cox Media Group, will serve as emcee for the 18th Annual Literacy Program. “This Creek County Spelling Bee. fundraiser makes up 7% of our

annual operating budget.” CCLP is excited to announce Dick Loftin, Senior Producer and Evening News Host for KRMG and Cox Media Group, is returning as this year’s emcee. Tulsans enjoy his two-hour Evening News of the top stories of the day. “This is the highlight of a very long career in radio. I have many decades in Tulsa radio and have worked for Tulsa’s greatest radio stations, but being the Host of The KRMG Evening News is a career milestone. You can’t be in Tulsa radio without being aware of what KRMG brings to the table,” shares Loftin. Dick’s interest in radio began at age eight after hearing his brother on a radio station in Muskogee. Dick has worked in Tulsa radio since the mid70’s. An avid reader and book collector, his reading interests include biography and history. Dick’s favorite author is historian David McCullough. “Put me around a bunch of ‘book people’ and I feel right at home,” says Dick. Spring Into Gardening The Tulsa Garden Center’s free annual Gardening InfoFair will be Saturday, February 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
By Mike Blake The Tulsa Garden Center is pleased to announce that the Gardening InfoFair, the everpopular kick-off to the spring gardening season, will be held on February 20, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Gardening InfoFair is your opportunity to interact with like-minded gardeners and to
learn more about the gardening affiliates that call Tulsa Garden Center home. Tulsa Garden Center’s affiliated gardening clubs will be on hand to provide information and resources on specific plant topics and their individual organizations.
Local gardening clubs will feature booths at the Tulsa Garden Center’s Gardening InfoFair.
918-446-9696 www.bobhurleygm.com
The goal of the fair is to offer environmentally conscious and renewable resource gardening information to the public well in advance of the planting season. The public will learn how gardeners utilize plants to promote health and well-being. This will be a great time to investigate joining a club focused on your favorite plant. Retail nurseries, environmentalists, horticultural experts, landscape designers and educational institutions will also participate. To provide even more information, there will be a two-part presentation. Karen Watkins, Linnaeus Gardener and Master Gardener, will give a lecture on the importance of pollinators to successful gardens and nature in general, and Joseph Schnetzer, consultant to Monarch Initiative of Tulsa, will present a PowerPoint program on the plight of Monarchs trying to survive in our overdeveloped environment. Their over-wintering habitat in Northern Mexico is constantly being reduced by logging and agricultural development. Gardeners need to be especially conscious of how we can help the
Garden Deva Sculpture Company returns to the Gardening InfoFair with their signature metal garden sculptures, whimsical sculptures, and yard décor. Monarchs survive. This presentation will be held in the Tulsa Garden Center Ballroom from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30`a.m. Call (918) 746-5125 or visit www.tulsagardencenter. com for enrollment details. There is no cost to attend this seminar; however, space is limited. Spring planning is the critical first step to success. Learn where to site the garden, what the environmental resources your plants need are, and what the ongoing maintenance requirements are. Mark your calendar for February 20th to

The Secret to TSaving Money “Financially Fit” is a column published by RCB Bank to help you gain knowledge on all things financial. Fitness guides – RCB Bank professionals in the field – offer ideas to help you strengthen your money sense, customize savings training, and provide quick and easy action plans to start whipping your money into shape. By Jocelyn Wood
•Only half of American households have a savings plan with specific goals. •Only 4 out of 10 American households have a spending plan that allows sufficient saving to meet their goals. •51% of Americans don’t have a rainy day fund to pay for an unexpected expense of $1,000. So, what’s holding you back from saving money? America Saves Week is February 22-27, 2016. The national social media campaign encourages individuals and families to take financial action in building wealth through saving money and reducing debt. The secret to saving money is to make savings automatic. Join the America Saves initiative and put your savings on auto-drive. Get started in three simple steps. Step 1: Set a goal. Why are you saving? An emergency fund, a car, a down payment on
a home or your retirement? Step 2: Make a plan. How much money do you need to achieve your goal? How much can you afford to put away each month, or in how many months do you want to reach your goal? You are more likely to save money with a plan than without one. Are you worried you won’t follow through on your plan? Make a formal commitment to save. Put your goal and plan in writing and place it on your fridge. Set up a personal support system by sharing your goal with a close friend and ask them to hold you accountable. Use your bank’s services, like text banking and online banking, to help you track expenses and set up email alerts to remind you about your goal. Take the America Saves pledge – available at www.americasaves. org/pledge. Step 3: Set up automatic savings. Ask your employer about automatic savings op-
tions at your job, such as split deposit, 401k retirement plans and holiday savings programs. Set up a savings account and DON’T get a debit card tied to it. Basically, put your money where you can’t spend it. Talk to your bank about setting up automatic transfers. Even setting up transfers in small amounts adds up over time. A Bargain for You, A Job for Someone Else Goodwill strives to attract shoppers while providing the dignity of a career for those with barriers to employment.

L.L. Bean, Miss Me and more. Other brands throughout the clothing racks include Coldwater Creek, J. Jill, Chico’s, Talbot’s, and The North Face. Men’s slacks are priced at $5.99. Children’s clothing is $2.49, and infants’ clothing is 99 cents. “We have a really good selection of children’s coats at just $3.99,” says Jaime, “so grandparents can pick up play coats for the grandkids for very little money.” Ladies’ shoes and purses start at $4.99 and include brands such as Michael Kors, Coach and Fossil. Jewelry – costume, sterling, gold and vintage – provides many oneof-a-kind pieces for unique accessorizing for as little as $2. Shoppers can enjoy added savings during special discount sales each month, quarterly storewide 50% off clothing sales and a weekly 50% off Jaime Monroe, Southwest Boulevard store manager, and Michaela ticket number. Those Schweiger, retail sales associate, are pleased to offer top name brand age 55 and up can merchandise for pennies on the dollar. take 25% off their
Unlike most retail stores, a purchase at Goodwill means a great bargain for you and the opportunity for someone to receive training and get a job they otherwise would not have. This win-win situation is what sets Goodwill apart from all other stores. And it is why more and more smart shoppers go to Goodwill to have fun, save money and support a worthwhile cause within the community. Jaime Monroe, manager of
the newest store at 3110 Southwest Blvd., calls attention to the large selection of workout gear and tennis shoes that are popular this time of year. Yoga pants, hoodies and T-shirts are available for a small fraction of regular retail prices, from $2.99 to $4.99. All the clothing is gently worn, nearly new or, sometimes, new with tags. Ladies’ jeans, always in demand, are just $6.99. Shoppers will find many retail and catalog brands such as Gap, Eddie Bauer,
entire purchases the first and third Tuesday of each month. As one shopper commented, “You can go to the mall and see the same merchandise week after week. At Goodwill, you never know what you are going to find, but you can be sure it will be really nice for not much more than the cost of a cup of coffee.” “Some people don’t realize we have such a huge book department,” says Jaime. Hardbacks start at $2.25. Paperbacks are 70% off the list price. Harlequin novels are just 50 cents. Children’s books start at 50 cents. Cookbooks are always plentiful, with many vintage selections. “We are so grateful to our donors,” adds Jaime. “They are our primary means of support.” Donations at the 11 retail stores in the region and 27 attended donation centers took in 22.1 million pounds of clothing and household items in 2014, the latest year statistics available. The collection, processing and selling of donated goods provided employment for 511 individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. “But that’s not all we do. We also help everyday people who don’t have jobs,” says Jaime. In 2014, more than 4,000 people took advantage of Goodwill’s two Job Connection locations for free computer usage and assistance with skills assessments, interests and ability surveys, career options,
resume development, job leads, Internet job search, interview skills, job fairs, networking and referral to community resources. Occupational skills training opportunities include G.E.D. classes, workplace computer skills training, forklift/materials handling operation, unarmed private security training, A+ certification, and hospitality training and certification. In keeping with the founding philosophy, “A hand up, not a hand out,” Goodwill offers a special job training program designed specifically for high school students on the Autism Spectrum. You can help people help themselves by shopping at Goodwill retail stores or by dropping off clothing, housewares, small appliances and books in good condition. Check the Goodwill website for all locations, hours and a monthly calendar with specific sale dates.

Making Ideas Happen
Outdoor Creations specializes in professional styled indoor and outdoor living.
By Duane Blankenship Jake Nicks established Outdoor Creations three years ago. He and his team of experts consider the outside of your home just as important as its interior. Outdoor Creations provides products and services that include large pool houses, hardscaping, roofing, French drains, and Jake’s favorite, complete backyard renovations
for outdoor living at its finest. Outdoor Creations also builds quality homes, remodels condos and apartments, and flips homes. Jake spent his youth in Las Vegas, where his father was a construction project manager. Jake grew up working with his father and eventually came to Broken Arrow to attend Rhema Bible Col-

lege. Upon graduation, he began doing what he had enjoyed all his life, construction and remodeling. Jake soon found that customers were asking him to do a variety of projects and decided that starting his own business was a natural progression. Jake and the Outdoor Creations team provide a full range of superior services at competitive rates to residents of greater Tulsa and beyond. “Our company has grown from a two-person operation to a full staff of professionals that are able to meet your every landscaping and remodeling need,” says Jake. “By remaining consistently dedicated to performing at the highest standards, we continue to build long-term relationships with our clients.” The team’s reputation for customer satisfaction has made Outdoor Creations a household name in their industry. All of Jake’s employees are background checked, and the company is fully insured. Outdoor Creations has a perfect rating with BBB and Angie’s List. “We don’t farm out projects to independent contractors, and our customers are assured they will receive the highest standard of products and services whenever they hire us to do a project.” Although Outdoor Creations does not perform plumbing or electrical require-
ments, Jake recommends companies specializing in these areas whenever they are needed on a project. This is explained at the onset of a project, and you will be invoiced directly by the company doing the service. When you’re ready to begin remodeling or expanding your outdoor living experience, the Outdoor Creations team will consult with you to determine your exact needs for improving your home’s living space, whether inside or outside. You’ll be provided expert advice, creative ideas and an estimate to complete the project. When the job is finished and meets or exceeds your expectations, you’ll pay the amount agreed upon – never more than the amount presented in the estimate. If you’re thinking of making an idea happen – a pool, patio, pergola, fireplace or fire pit – Outdoor Creations will visit with you and present a free, three-dimensional design for you to consider for your backyard.
Jake loves to please customers and says, “There’s nothing I enjoy more than presenting a finished product. It’s very important to me that I consistently do my best to deliver the highest standards on every job, for every person. It’s very rewarding when we deliver a finished project that exceeds our customer’s expectations.”

So many folks are optically crippled by using them, because they have one at several locations at their home or office. Still, they are never near them when needed. Or, they wind up sitting or stepping on them, because they are not CONSTANTLY ON THEIR FACE like complete RX eyewear. They don’t seem to figure the cost of losing and breaking them or that the safest place for any glasses is ON YOUR FACE. Since they are mass produced, the optical center (point of lens where light passes un-deviated) width is not the same as the person’s personal pupillary distance measurement. This does not mean you will physically hurt your eyes with them, but it does mean that unwanted PRISM can be generated that causes eyestrain and possible double vision in the higher powers. Also, one eye may demand more strength than the other eye. Then, there is no correction in these mass produced readers to correct for astigmatism. It may be possible that even your doctor recommended them due to budgetary concerns. In the lower powers they can suffice, but a custom made reader or half glass with your doctor’s RX is always the best and can be made to help with heavy computer screen or near use. Many of the folks who use drugstore readers are people who basically have pretty good distance vision. Still yet, some of these SAME folks complain they cannot see street signs at night clearly. What typically happens is that they are told to get drugstore readers to save cost. In doing that, the DOCTOR’S distance correction (albeit a mild correction) IS NEVER UTILIZED. Therefore the best acuity DISTANCE and NEAR is NEVER ACHIEVED!
SO WHAT IS THE BEST SOLUTION? Our solution to these problems is to obtain a current doctor’s RX (Ophthalmologist or Optometrist) and then bring this prescription to a competent Optician. We will carefully assist you in the frame selection so as to consider the prescription, optics, and ergonomic fit. We use two philosophies in styling: a. the minimalist look, which provides the lightest weight and nearly invisible look, or b. traditional plastics and metals with adornments for the ladies to produce that high fashion look. Our lenses of choice will be the Seiko Perfas Prestige II Digital with Surpass Anti Reflective Coat. We will Pre-Fit the frame, take exacting personal measurements and make absolutely sure these measurements exist in the final inspection of the eyewear. Your new eyewear will become part of you and your visual system and you will look, see and feel GREAT, just like so many of our fine customers over the last 19 years!

Plan Now for a Lush Summer Lawn Michael Bolton says that early spring is the best time to begin preparing your lawn. SoonerLawn’s six-step program begins with an application of pre-emergent herbicide for crabgrass control, continues with additional weed control and fertilizers during spring and summer, and ends with a winterization weed control in the fall. While many homeowners treat their own lawns and obtain so-so results, the SoonerLawn professionals take things to the next level by treating lawns with the right formulations for that particular grass at the right times throughout the year for optimum results, applying lime to regulate proper soil ph to allow maximum effectiveness of fertilizers, and monitoring for insects and diseases. One of the hallmarks of
SoonerLawn is quick results. “We don’t have to tell our customers their lawns are getting better. They can see improvement each time we’re there,” says Michael. One customer, president and landscaping chairman of The Reserve at Battle Creek said, “The Reserve looks better that it has ever looked in the past, thanks to the Sooner crew. They are very professional and take great pride in their work. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a lawn care company.” Michael adds that SoonerLawn’s prices are below most, if not all, other local lawn care companies. And their prompt and professional customer service goes above and beyond expectations. “We keep our customers happy by offering great service at a

area homes look their best for the new year. Kitchen cabinets can be refinished in as little as a day. Whole house projects, which include kitchen and bath cabinets, baseboards, doors, moldings, paneling and just about any other vertical wood surface, can be done in three to five days. The Gleam Guard crew will be in and out, without interruptions or breakaways. Their work area, when finished, will look like no one was there. Aftercare is as simple as wiping with a damp cloth. Tracy says when people see the difference Gleam Guard has made in friends’ or relatives’ homes, they are sold. Even those considering new cabinets or refacing old cabinets frequently decide on Gleam Guard Dust Free Wood Refinishing instead. It’s the sensible solution that makes a big difference. “I love to show people how they can save money and still have beautiful wood
finishes that look like new,” says Tracy. To complete the 2016 makeover, the Gleam Guard team can also deep clean rock and stone interior surfaces, such as fireplaces, as well as ceilings – even popcorn ceilings. A Gleam Guard technician would be happy to do an in-home demonstration on an existing cabinet door to give owners a glimpse of what Gleam Guard will look like in their homes. Cabinet Refinishing continued from page 1 “We can refinish cabinets that are in really bad shape. We can also clean your cabinets and give them a new, permanent finish. The Gleam Guard finishes are available in either shiny or satin. When we apply our Gleam Guard system, it bonds to the original finish and makes the surface smooth and dry. The process remarkably enhances wood grain and keeps it looking oiled and polished. Old imperfections cannot be seen,” says owner Tracy Booth. “This is an ultra low odor process; it is completely safe for even those with serious breathing problems to be in the house.” The only thing you need to do to prepare for the Gleam Guard team is “open your door and let us in your kitchen,” says Tracy. “In other words, there is no need to empty your cabinets, remove cabinet hardware, cover your furniture or anything else – we take care of it all.”
The entire Gleam Guard process takes only one to two days complete. Call today to schedule. Tracy and his professional craftsmen have been providing Gleam Guard Dust Free Wood Refinishing in Tulsa area homes for over 25 years. They have perfected their skill, their timing and their attention to detail. “We have customers we served over 20 years ago who say their cabinets still look great even today. It is because of our hometown people in the Tulsa area that we were able to expand and help families across the country beautify their homes, including Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Branson, Northwest Washington, Florida and Canada,” he says. Avoid Winter Related Slipping: Falls increase during the winter months, and unfortunately, falls, are more common with aging. Often these falls can lead to injuries that can rob seniors of their independence. To help prevent falls wear shoes with good traction, stay inside until roads clear, replace the single cane with a 4 point cane, and avoid puddles indoors by removing shoes after you have been out in the snow and ice. We will be happy to provide our free home Fall Prevention Safety check. Bundle Up: Cold temperatures can lead to frostbite and hypothermia -- a condition where the body temperature dips too low. Don't let indoor temperatures go too low and dress in layers. Going outside? Wear warm socks, a heavy coat, a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Use a scarf to cover your mouth and protect your lungs.
Armella Glenn, owner and advocate for senior independence.
Avoid the Winter Blues: Because it can be difficult and dangerous to get around, many seniors have less contact with others during cold months. This can cause feelings of loneliness and isolation. To help avoid these issues, family members should check in on seniors; even a short, daily phone call can make a big difference. Senior neighbors should remember to call each other every day as a safety check.

SSearching for a Pre-Owned Vehicle?
Don Carlton Honda offers an excellent selection of pre-owned vehicles that come with a free vehicle history report.
By Duane Blankenship Don Carlton Honda has been in business in 41 years, and the successful automobile dealership is still family-owned by Don and Brenda Carlton. Over the years, the Carltons have established a strong and committed staff with many years of experience in satisfying customers’ needs, whether shopping for new or used vehicles or seeking maintenance, service or repairs. Sami Khalaf is Don Carlton’s general manager. He has been with the company for 30 years. His brother, Tony Khalaf, is Don Carlton Honda’s used car manager and has been at the dealership 18 years. Prior to that time, he worked for Don Carlton Acura. Tony came to the United States from Lebanon to attend college at the University of Tulsa, where he attained his degree in engineering.
He has been Don Carlton Honda’s used car manager for the past eight years. “I’ve met a lot of really nice people in the automotive industry,” said Tony. “We do our best to present our used car customers with clean, reliable automobiles that have been carefully checked and fully serviced, ensuring that the vehicles we sell are safe and have no issues.” Don Carlton Honda’s certified pre-owned vehicles come with a free vehicle history report (CARFAX®) and a 7-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. Millions of consumers rely on CARFAX Vehicle History Reports TM to help them make better used car buying decisions, as they cover a vehicle’s title, ownership and mileage history, service records, odometer readings, or past
registration as a fleet vehicle. A report may also include accident indicators. Tony buys all the vehicles that go on the pre-owned lot. If a car is taken in on trade, Tony has to approve it for acceptability. Otherwise, it is sold at auction. “We want all our customers to come back with smiles on their faces the next time they’re looking for a pre-owned vehicle,” said Tony. The Don Carlton preowned lot has many really nice automobiles and a few economy cars priced under $10,000 that make great first cars for a young driver. Tony says they have a wonderful finance department that has great relationships with many area banks and credit unions. “Even if your credit is a little tarnished,” said Tony, “we should be able to get you
Tony Khalaf, a familiar face on the pre-owned lot at Don Carlton Honda. approved.” Tony is a friendly guy who wants to guide you to the car, truck or SUV that’s right for you. “All our managers have been here for 12 to 18 years,” said Tony. “We like working here, and we all like making our customers happy.” When you’re shopping for a used vehicle, don’t forget to stop by Don Carlton Honda and say “hello” to Tony.
