TULSA COUNTY ASSESSOR JOHN A. WRIGHT MAKES IT EASIER FOR YOU TO CLAIM YOUR PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS!!! You may file for your 2022 property tax exemptions at the Tulsa County Assessor’s Office. We are located on the fifth floor of the Tulsa County HQ Building at Sixth and Denver in Downtown Tulsa. In addition, the locations listed below are available, on the days noted, for you to file the following exemption applications and other documents. For questions, please call our office at 918-596-5100. You can also visit our website at assessor.tulsacounty.org to obtain more information or to download forms. Homestead Exemption - To be approved for the year 2022, the Single Homestead Exemption must be applied for by March 15, 2022 or within 30 days from the issue date of an assessment notice. You need to apply if your real estate property has changed ownership during 2021 or you have not previously applied for homestead exemption. If filed after March 15th, the single homestead exemption will be allowed for the following year, 2023. Your deed must be notarized before January 1st and filed in the County Clerk’s Office by February 1st to allow the exemption in the current year. If you did not move or change your deed in any way and have previously filed for the exemption on your residence, you are not required to re-file an application. Additional Homestead Exemption - To be approved for the year 2022, your gross household income must be $25,000 or less during 2021. You must file between January 2nd and March 15th or 30 days from the issue date of an assessment notice. To file you will need to bring proof of income for 2021 such as all 1099 and W2 forms from all income sources. The additional homestead exemption requires annual filing, except persons who are 65 years of age or older or who are permanently disabled. Senior Property Valuation Limitation - To be approved for the year 2022, you must be 65 years of age before January 1, 2022 and have a gross household income of $74,200 or less during 2021. If you qualify for this exemption, you must file between January 2nd and March 15th or 30 days from the issue date of an assessment notice. To file you will need to bring proof of income for 2021, such as all 1099 and W2 forms from all income sources. Seniors who have qualified are not required to re-file. Veterans - There is an exemption for veterans honorably discharged from active service in any branch of the United States armed forces or Oklahoma National Guard and who have been certified by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to have one hundred percent (100%) permanent, service-connected disability or be the surviving spouse of such head of household. Exemption is for the full amount of the fair cash value of the homesteaded property. The unmarried spouse of a veteran killed in action may also qualify for an exemption. Agricultural Renditions - You may file your 2022 agricultural renditions including your Agricultural Tax Exemption Permit. Renditions must be filed by March 15th to avoid penalty. Business Renditions - Business owners must file a 2022 business personal property rendition by March 15th to avoid penalty. Manufactured Home Renditions – If you do not own the land, your manufactured home rendition must be filed by March 15th to avoid penalty. To have your manufactured home assessed or to file for the homestead exemption, you will need to bring the title or registration for the manufactured home. Manufactured Home Exemption – To be approved for 2022, you must be at least 62 years of age or older, the head of household, and own and reside in a manufactured home on land you do not own. Other qualifications will apply. For questions or more information, please call 918-596-5142. Property Tax Refund – If your gross household income from all sources (except gifts) is $12,000 or less, and you are at least 65 years of age or totally disabled, you may be eligible for a property tax refund by filing state form 538-H. Filing deadline is June 30th.
ATTENTION SENIOR CITIZENS! The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has changed the household median income in Tulsa, Osage, Creek, Rogers and Wagoner counties. This change will impact senior citizens’ ability to qualify for a Property Valuation Limitation for Ad Valorem tax purposes. For 2022, the new maximum annual gross household income is $74,200. Seniors who are qualified are not required to re-file. To be approved for year 2022, you must be 65 years of age or over as of January 1, 2022 and have a gross household income of $74,200 or less during 2021. You must file between January 2nd and March 15th or within 30 calendar days from the issue date of Notice of Increase in Valuation of Real Property. To file you will need to bring proof of income from 2021, such as Social Security, 1099 and W2 forms from all income sources. Please contact the assessor’s office in the county you live in to see if you qualify and to apply for this benefit.

anuary, 2022: The Woody Guthrie Center has been a prized addition to Tulsa’s cultural arts scene since its very inception. The center has provided Oklahoma citizens with invaluable information about one of the state’s most extraordinary sons; though he passed at the early age of 55, his creative life was astoundingly prolific, and the center, now in its seventh year, honors Guthrie’s life by teaching visitors about his relevance today – as well as bringing attention to those who also embody his talent and his message of equality and justice. One such notable example is the current exhibition “Stronger Together: The Power of Women in Country Music.”
“This GRAMMY Museum exhibit celebrates the contributions that women have made since Country music became its own genre,” states Deana McCloud, Executive Director of the Woody Guthrie Center. “From the Carter Family to Kitty Wells, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline and Emmylou Harris, women have always been a part of country music. These legendary acts eventually made way for performers such as Alison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Faith Hill and contemporary artists such as Maren Morris, Yola and Brandi Carlile; female artists continue to play an important role.” There will be many effects to view and appreciate throughout (continued on next page)

Not unlike a perennial, the Claremore Home & Garden Show will be making its reappearance this spring in Claremore. Amateur or professional gardeners, do-it-yourselfers, anyone who take pride in their lawn, home interior or exterior, or those eager to undertake any project for their house or property can find something of interest at the upcoming annual event, scheduled for Friday, March 25, and Saturday, March 26, in Claremore. “This (show) is an opportunity for folks to come and connect

The FFA Chapters grow them all as part of their horticulture lessons and proceeds from the sales go toward more resources for them. strives to reach potential visitors as well residents in the region. “I have been in the hospitality industry for a long time; from hotels and restaurants to my long time career as the Director of Visit Claremore,” said Andrews, a second generation Claremore Zebra and RSU alumni. “I started in 2005 when it was the Claremore Convention & Visitors Bureau and has evolved into Visit Claremore. Now a department of the City of Claremore, we merged with the Claremore Expo Center in 2015. Missions were identical so the two merging made sense and allowed for more resources for both.” As an industry “storyteller,” Visit Claremore tells the history of the community to visitors through social media, advertising, news articles and in-person with the public. “Tourism is the purest form of economic development. It doesn’t require roads, bridges, stop lights, utilities, etc. except when we see growth in hotels, and restaurants or other related businesses,” Andrews said. “With a healthy flow of visitors the increase in usage and need of our hospitality businesses is a healthy growth to the city, via sales taxes, increased utilities and providing more jobs without taxing roads and emergency services.” Inasmuch as tourism benefits
the city, Andrews also commended the town’s many entrepreneurs, and the importance of community support. “To buy locally you are supporting one of our own residents, who have invested thousands, maybe even millions in our community,” she said. “They have already given back by bringing, or opening, their business here; they believe that our community is worth their investment. Additionally, they are providing local jobs. Some business owners and/or property owners might not be from Claremore, however, their employees are. We host business meetings, private parties, dinners, weddings, receptions, memorial service receptions, etc. “I tell people that if it doesn’t involve live animals, fire or water, we’re probably open to the idea of doing it,” she laughed. Gebhart, a veteran meeting planner and event planner, had been working remotely in Claremore for a company in Texas when she had the idea for Three Twenty on Main. “I managed meetings all over the U.S. and internationally, and the company I worked for specialized in educational meetings for physicians and nurses,” she said. “My partners and I looked around and saw this blossoming of event venues all over the country, so we said to ourselves ‘We could do that.’” By the fall of 2016, Gebhart, Tommy Duncan and Brian Courtney found the space in downtown Claremore that would eventually become Three Twenty on Main.

Between Thanksgiving 2016 and March 2017, the building underwent a “radical transformation” before it opened to the public. “We purposely left a lot of the base elements of the building in place – the history of the building was something we appreciated,” she said. Able to accommodate up to 120 people with a total square footage of 4,000 feet, including a bridal dressing room upstairs and kitchen space, Three Twenty on Main can meet the needs for gatherings of all sizes. Gebhart describes the décor as “elegantly neutral,” allowing for minimum redecoration to look festive for any occasion – casual, semi-formal, formal and very formal. “We have a good neutral palette here, allowing people to do whatever they want to do for whatever event they plan to hold here,” she said. Early reservations are always preferable with at least a “90 day notice” typifying how much advance time is needed for most bookings. “People in Claremore have been so good, so welcoming to us,” she said. “When we started this, we knew we were bringing something

We had a lot of great acts for our 75th year, and the community kicked the rodeo off with a new golf tournament called ‘Cowboys For Kids’, which was a partnership with Rogers County Youth Services, we were a part of Food Truck Thursday, and we had several events that happened at the rodeo, including some post-rodeo concerts performed by local artisans – it was very much an event that connected with the community.” Drawing 745 contestants and an estimated 15,000 spectators, the 2021 rodeo was held May 27-30, at Stampede Park, and the rodeo is traditionally held over Memorial weekend. Started in 1946, the Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo joined the PRCA in 1947. The rodeo is a partnership of the City of Claremore, the Board of County Commissioners for Rogers County and the Will Rogers Round Up Club. manuscripts, and more pertaining to Rogers’ life, with a theater to show Rogers movies and documentaries. “What we do is preserve and share the life and legacy of Will Rogers for future generations,” explained Will Rogers Memorial Executive Director Tad Jones. As a native Rogers Countian, Jones is well-acquainted with the story of Will. “I grew up in Claremore, went to school in Oologah – towns which were both important parts of Will’s early life – I’ve been around the memorial and the Birthplace Ranch (in Oologah) most of my life,” he said. “I was in the Oklahoma legislature for 12 years and became more familiar with the memorial, as it’s a state entity. When (former museum director) Steve (Gragert) retired in 2014, I was contacted to see if I might be interested in taking over for him, to which I said ‘Absolutely.’ I had a marketing background, and thought I could use that and my experience to really expand the memorial’s outreach, both in the community and beyond. I’m thrilled to have this opportunity.” Even though Rogers rose to fame

nearly 100 years ago, so many of his insights and outlooks remain as relevant today as they did during his lifetime. “When people come to the museum, they have a good time, they have fun, and they come to understand Will’s joy for life, how he lived life to the fullest and treated everyone with respect,” he said. “He gave all for his fellow man and his family. renda Reno and Mary White are more than just mother and daughter. Since Feb. 1, 2013, the pair have also been business partners, overseeing the downtown antique store, Sailor Antiques & Collectibles. “Our business involves the sale of antiques, collectibles and other vintage items,” Reno said.

“Originally, I worked in a corporate job in Pryor, but I’d always had an antiques booth during my career because it’s always been a way for me to relax.” Eventually, Reno opened her own shop in Claremore – a place for antique lovers like herself. “How we operate is, we have the space and rent it out to a proprietor, who is responsible for furnishing it, keeping it clean and marketing the items, which are generally vintage in nature,”

she said. “We have 40 proprietors spread out over 7,000 square feet.” Proprietor booth spaces are month-to-month, so unique items offered change from one month to the next, but always with something for collectors or those who just want to be reminded of simpler times. “We get a lot of business from travelers, but also from members of the community and others from around the area,” she said. “Antique shopping is a unique experience. So many people have told us that it’s relaxing, it’s enjoyable, and it evokes memories from their childhood. People will come in just to look around and come across things that remind them of when they were growing up or of their parents. Something we hear quite often is ‘Oh, my grandmother used to have one of those.’” Sailor Antiques itself is something of an antique, as the building itself was built in 1902 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. “We’re blessed that we’re in this beautiful historic building and we’re also in a corridor of some main thoroughfares – Route 66, the Will Rogers Turnpike, Highway 20, etc.,” she said. Among some of the more collectible items to be found at Sailor are Fenton glassware and Frankoma Pottery of Sapulpa, but highly collectible or not, Reno said all items carry fond memories for someone and her store – and Claremore – are perfect destinations. “I believe that Claremore is a destination, a great community – just the three blocks that are historic downtown Claremore is a great area,” she said. “We’re all

anuary, 2022: For its 33rd year, the Illinois River Fly Fishing School is welcoming students wishing to learn all about the sport. Sessions are set for Feb. 25-26, 2022, at Tenkiller State Park and on the banks of the Illinois River in eastern Oklahoma. The basic course includes sessions on tackle and gear, knots, flies, fly selection and casting techniques. On Saturday afternoon, participants receive on-stream instruction. Fly rods will be available for loan Saturday. A state fishing license is not required for students during course instruction Saturday. Instructors will be Mark Patton, Kim Erickson and Tre Dupuy. Patton said if enough students

haven’t enrolled by Jan. 31, the school might have to be canceled; in that event, all fees and deposits would be refunded. A welcome session and orientation will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, with indoor training from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, followed by actual fishing instruction on the Illinois River. A fly selection and discussion session will begin at 7 p.m. after dinner break. Sunday is for fishing on your own, with appropriate license required. Participants should bring a hat, sunglasses, rain gear, flashlight, alarm clock and appropriate clothing for Saturday’s outdoor session. If available, participants are urged to also bring their own

anuary, 2022: Absentee ballot applications are now available for the 2022 Election Year. If you received absentee ballots by mail in 2021 and would like to continue receiving ballots by mail, you will need to complete a new absentee ballot application for 2022. You can request absentee ballots using the OK Voter Portal. Absentee ballot applications are also available for download on the State Election Board website or by contacting your County Election Board. Voters can request to receive ballots for a single election or all elections in which they are eligible to vote for the calendar year. As a reminder, the Democratic Party has opened its primaries to Independent voters for 2022-2023. Independent voters who
would like to receive Democratic primary ballots, should be sure to check the appropriate box on their absentee ballot application in order to receive them. Voters are also reminded that the new deadline to request absentee ballots is now the third Monday (15 days) prior to each election. The new law allows voters sufficient time to receive, vote, and return their absentee ballots and better aligns with the U.S. Postal Service recommendation that voted absentee ballots be mailed at least one week prior to the absentee ballot deadline. The next election for many voters is February 8, 2022. Absentee ballot requests must be received no later than 5 p.m., January 24 for the February elections.
