shows in the region, thanks to American Heritage Bank. People look forward to seeing the show, and we work hard to give it to them. Planners expect more than 10,000 people to watch the fireworks show, which is provided by

Celebration Pyrotechnics. Musical accompaniment by Four Winds will be broadcast on 88.5 FM in a twomile radius. The fireworks will be launched from the Sapulpa Municipal Golf Course, with recommended viewing areas located to the south. Attendees are encouraged to park at the Walmart Supercenter or the fields nearby, where there will be plenty of space for you and your loved ones to take in one of the countries most beloved forms of celebration. Everyone is invited to bring their lawn chairs, picnic baskets, footballs and Frisbees for an old-fashioned

fireworks display. This is a fun event for the entire family. The fun begins at 7 p.m. and stretches into the night – until the fireworks run out. The Kids Korner will have plenty of activities to help the children burn off some energy and occupy their attention until the sun goes down. At about 9:45, the fireworks will begin. Don’t forget to tune in to 88.5 FM to catch the live broadcast and choreographed music. American Heritage Bank sponsors this show in order to say ‘thank you’ to our community for all their support, business and patronage. Bring the entire family

and join the fun! American Heritage Bank provides a full line of personal and business financial services. As one of the oldest independently owned banks in the Tulsa area, they have served the community for 110 years. outh Pointe Chevrolet is synonymous with strong core values. Integrity, transparency, professionalism and teamwork come standard with each transaction whether purchasing a vehicle or having one serviced or repaired. “These aren’t just words, “explains Dustin Hightower, General Manager of South Pointe Chevrolet, “It’s really a lifestyle.” As a part of a larger cooperative, or network, of independent 14 |

dealerships, South Pointe is privy to a huge inventory of vehicles, both new and used. “We are the dealership that gives you more—more choices for Chevy vehicles, thus greater access to a larger selection,” states Hightower. Customers may shop our online inventory and get pre-approval for financing online. The inventory is quality; whether it is new or used, in that the pre-owned vehicles are subject to a rigorous inspection prior, to being labeled as CPO

Moreover, the shopping experience is lowpressure and calm. Customers are greeted, and the sales team is helpful and responsive to needs, but never pushy; always helping you with information needed to make your best buying decision.

FESSIONALISM • TEAMWORK South Pointe continues to turn one-time transactions into longterm relationships. The service department is in part the reason for returning customers. They are concerned with the customer’s needs, and strive to find a way to help them.Their mantra is, “What is the next right thing? Let’s do that.” The service staff goes above and beyond to find solutions for every situation, even offering financing options for repairs if a warranty is not available. To

further their quest for satisfied customers, every initial diagnostic test is free of charge. One key quality unique to South Pointe is the hands-on nature of its management. Accommodation of the customer goes beyond finding solutions for repairs and finding options to make them affordable. Drop off of a vehicle to the service department is available 24 hours per day, and a courtesy pick-up is also available. In fact, South Pointe, uniquely tries

to make each service transaction convenient via its option for online scheduling. This allows a customer to schedule appointments for service or repair wherever they are and at any time of day, reducing a customer’s need to work around set office hours. To ensure convenience for their customers, status updates are accessible online. Customers may check the stages of progress on their own time from theeir computer or phone. in the workplace, Alex received the coveted “Governor’s Disability Award of Excellence” in 2017. Employee of the Year, Tracy Daubert’s story began thirty-six years ago, when she was born with a chromosomal anomaly.. Her parents were told that if she lived she would have severe intellectual disabilities and delayed development. Undaunted by this diagnosis, Traci’s parents took her home and treated her just like her sisters. With physical, occupational and speech therapies and other supports, Traci flourished. During Traci’s senior year at Union High School, she participated in Goodwill’s Transition Work Adjustment Program. After graduation in 2000, she came to work for Goodwill’s contract services, where she participated in collating, packaging and assembly work that Goodwill performs for

local companies. Five years later, Traci transitioned to Goodwill’s hospital enclaves, shredding confidential documents at SouthCrest Hospital, and later at OSU Medical Center. During that period, she developed social and work skills and learned how to function as a member of a team to accomplish tasks. When a new position as a member of a cleaning enclave at St. John Hospital in Broken Arrow became available, she accepted it. The job was a perfect fit for her. It challenged her to learn new work skills, while interacting with hospital personnel and members of the community. When that contract ended, she joined Goodwill’s cleaning enclave at OSU Medical Center where she continues to thrive today. Despite what she has had to overcome, Traci always wears a smile. She is very active and loves the

social aspect of her job, particularly the interaction with hospital staff. She feels comfortable and at home at work with her friends and staff, and is proud that she is part of the community. “Goodwill has been such a big part of Traci’s life,” says her mother. “She has been working with Goodwill for seventeen years, and if she could work every single day she would!” As you have read, your donations are helping people in our community overcome considerable challenges to meet their goals. Your clothing and household items can be donated at your neighborhood Goodwill donation center.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH

The Rock House

or those who want to experience a “True Dining Experience”, hop in your vehicle and head towards the beautiful Kiamichi Mountain Range. Nestled in a 1920 remodeled rock home in the middle of the Balzanna’s 280 acre spread, a dream of owning a restaurant was fulfilled by Sam and Tami Balzanna. Moving here from Pennsylvania, they chose this area as a fine place to raise their five children. They opened “The Rock House” in April of 2012. Initially, all members of the family had a hand in getting the business running. Serving carved to order Angus steaks, pasta and her grandmother’s crab cake recipe, they have pleased many diners. Folks come from not only Oklahoma, but Arkansas and Texas as well, to dine at this unique dining establishment. The fine dining and spectacular views of the Kiamichi Mountains, Potato Hills and Buffalo Mountain make this a one of a kind “true dining experience”.

he Made in Oklahoma Coalition, founded in the year 2000, is a group of 70+ Oklahoma food manufacturers, growers and producers dedicated to promoting brand awareness for Oklahoma made food and beverage products. After over a decade of raising awareness for made in Oklahoma products, The MIO Coalition recognized that consumers in our state not only want to shop for local products at the grocery store, but they also want to support the Oklahoma restaurants that incorporate locally produced food and beverage items into their menu’s. Thus, in an effort to make this information more readily available to Oklahoma consumers the MIO Restaurant Program was born. The Restaurant of the Month promotion was implemented to provide additional support and recognition to MIO restaurant members that go above and beyond the baseline requirements for membership by offering a robust selection of MIO products to their

BEST FIREWORKS WITH THE LARGEST SELECTION BY BEKI AKIN

ere in North America we celebrate our freedom and those who have and do serve our great nation for that freedom. Across this nation on July 4th, celebrations will include fireworks some little, some noisy and some will create huge beautiful colors that light up the skies. Interesting fact about fireworks. They were discovered in China. All by accident sometime between 600-900 AD by mixing some common kitchen seasoning along with charcoal, sulfur and a few other ingredients created a form of gunpowder. Then to see how to get this formula to ignite, it was put into bamboo shoots and thrown into the fire to produce a loud blast. There you have it, Fireworks were

On July 3, 1776, the day before the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, John Adams wrote a letter to his wife in which he presaged the role of fireworks in Fourth of July celebrations. “The day will be most memorable in the history of America,” he predicted. “I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. klahoma Freewheel has a vision: “Through bicycling, Freewheel connects Oklahoma’s unique peoples, cultures, communities, and landscapes. We celebrate a happy, healthy, safe and sustainable Oklahoma.” Its mission is to “promote and strengthen cycling tourism in Oklahoma.” And as 2018 marks Oklahoma Freewheel’s 40th year, they will bring their mission and vision to a road that is very dear to Oklahoma’s heart—Historic Route 66. Each year, bicyclers who participate in the Oklahoma Freewheel event travel across Oklahoma during the second week of June, typically beginning near the Texas-Oklahoma border and ending up at Oklahoma’s northern border. This year, the trip will begin on June 9 in Elk City (near the OklahomaTexas panhandle border), follow Oklahoma’s stretch of Historic 66 through Weatherford, El Reno, Luther, Bristow, Catoosa, Miami, and will culminate on June 16 in Joplin, Missouri, right across the Oklahoma-Missouri border. Daily mileage on the ride varies from 50 to 75 miles per day with participants camping in rural Oklahoma communities each

night. This year, the bicyclists will spend the fifth night of their trip in Catoosa, where they will be greeted with shelter and refreshments before embarking on the fifth day of their seven day trip—a day in which they will pass some of Rogers County’s most historic sites, like Catoosa’s Blue Whale, Claremore’s Will Rogers Hotel and J.M. Davis Gun Museum, and Foyil’s Andy Payne Memorial. Route 66 has been forgotten by the mapmakers; however, its history lives on in the hearts and minds of Americans who live and travel along “the Mother Road.” The highway was built in 1926 and stretched from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles California. It runs like a diagonal banner across Oklahoma, from its northeast shoulder to its southwestern waistband. As Oklahoma Freewheel’s bicyclers travel through, they will be reminded that even though Oklahoma landscape changes dramatically as they cross the state, one thing does not change—the friendly and welcoming nature of the people who live here.
