Largest Oktoberfests in America! When it comes to food, Linde Oktoberfest has something for everyone. Get ready for some authentic German heritage, and mouthwatering dishes brought to you by our dedicated chefs, volunteers, restaurants and specialty shops. Bratwurst, Turkey Legs, Sausage, Sauerkraut, Potato Salad, Warm Pretzels, Pizza, tons of delicious sweet treats, and much more! For kids, we also have a variety of festival staples—from pizza, to
french fries, corn dogs, gyros, frozen custard and funnel cakes. Tulsa’s favorite festival wouldn’t be the same without our terrific entertainers! Live music is always a favorite and this year, several bands are traveling to Linde Oktoberfest Tulsa from Germany to perform, including Dorfrocker and Münchner Gaudiblosn, Alex Meixner will be joining us, and the popular das Glockenspiel® presented by Williams will be returning! New this year is the Bavarian Cup Team Challenge! Get your team of 8 together and join us as the Karbach Games and Competitions Arena becomes our own center of the universe Saturday at 2:00 PM for true fans of German bier. Why? Because it is ground zero for the
Linde Oktoberfest Bavarian Cup (Bayerische Tasse) Team Challenge, a challenge for the ages. Teams of 8, each with a minimum of four women, will compete for the first ever Goldenes Fass (Golden Barrel) Award, to display proudly in a lobby, break room or cubicle. The competition consists of four intense but fun games - the legendary Bier Barrel Race, the MassKrug Relay, the Strong Stein Hoist and the Das Tauziehen (Tug o’ War)! There will be non-stop action and everyone will chicken dance because it will be so much fun.

T
ulsa Pop Kids, XPO Game Festival and OKPOP are partnering together to produce the new and improved Tulsa Pop Culture Expo, November 2-4, 2018 at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center in Tulsa. The partnership between Tulsa Pop Kids, XPO Game Festival, and OKPOP derived from the intention of producing a successful event that showcases the pop culture industry for northeast Oklahoma. Tulsa Pop Culture Expo is a community-based event bringing together multiple organizations for one unified mission- showcasing all facets of the pop culture industry. Tulsa Pop Culture Expo will merge different components from the pop culture industry. Each organization is providing a different segment throughout the three-day event. Tulsa Pop Kids will entice attendees with nationally-known guest appearances, cosplayers, panel sessions related to the comic book industry, and a large kid’s area with activities geared towards their interests. Guest appearances include Karen Gillan, best known as “Ruby Roundhouse” or “Nebula” in Guardians of the Galaxy, Summer Glau, Zach Callison, voice actor for Steven Universe, C.
Thomas Howell, “Ponyboy” from the Outsiders, Sean Gunn, John Schneider, Butch Patrick, and the CHiPs cast. XPO Game Festival is slated to engage attendees with an eSports tournament, indie game competition, retro games, streaming lounge, gaming workshops and panel sessions related to streaming and game development. The eSports tournament at Tulsa Pop Culture Expo will showcase a $10,000 League of Legends tournament provided by Osage Casino and Hotel. Other games in the eSports and console tournaments include Overwatch, CS: GO, Rocket League, Halo 5, Smash Bros, Dragon Ball Fighter Z, Street Fighter, and a special free-play with Fortnite. OKPOP plans to educate attendees on the impact Oklahomans have had on pop culture. Multiple forms of pop culture, including movies, music, video games and comic books have had Oklahomans contribute to them in meaningful ways. Tulsa Pop Culture Expo will also feature a concert on the evening of Nov. 2 to help kick-off the event. Musical acts include Bit Brigade and video game hip-hop star Mega Ran. Bit Brigade will perform the music from The Legend of Zelda while one of the band members completes the game on the big screen. Bit Brigade has been playing sold out shows across the country, and this special concert is included with a Tulsa Pop Culture Expo pass at no additional charge. Tulsa Pop Culture Expo boasts over 46,000 square feet of space including a kid’s area, gaming, panel sessions, cosplayers, artists, celebrities, pop culture and gaming vendors, and a historical perspective on Oklahoma’s influence on pop culture. Complete schedule coming soon. “When great organizations come together that are focused on the community, great things can happen,” said Arthur Greeno, fundraising chair for Tulsa Pop Kids, Inc. “There is no reas on this convention cannot be the biggest one in the region.” Tickets are on sale now. Receive a one-day pass for only $25 or a 3-day pass for $59.95. Visit www.tulsapopcultureexpo.com to purchase tickets.

Dia De Festival en Baja Fundraiser Benefits RSU Public TV BY TOM FINK
R
SU Public TV will be hosting one of its more internationally-inspired events this fall with Dia De Festival en Baja. The event, which includes an evening of dinner, relationshipbuilding, and public television celebrities, marks a comeback of sorts for the fundraiser. “A few years ago, we started out doing a dinner fundraiser, primarily as a means to build relationships with corporates whom I could talk to about becoming underwriters on the station,” said Royal Aills, general manager, RSU Public TV. “Because of budgetary reasons, we laid off holding it one year, but I decided to pursue it again this year, and my community advisory board is leading the charge, so we’re hosting it again this year.” Dia De Festival en Baja will be held at the Tulsa Country Club and, as implied by the name, will have a distinctly Mexican flavor. “In previous years, our special guest at these fundraisers was Nick Stellino, whose cooking program has appeared on our station, and as such, the dinner served was primarily Italian food,” Aills said, “but this year’s special guest will be awardwinning chef Pati Jinich, creator of ‘Pati’s Mexican Table’, a series which brings authentic Mexican flavors, colors, textures and warmth into American kitchens. “’Pati is very well-liked across the U.S., and we wanted to bring her in to showcase her and what she does with her program,” he continued. “I think people who enjoy her show will obviously enjoy her company, and those who don’t know about her yet, will get to meet her and learn about another personality on public television.”
Rounding out the VIP names at the event will be Rogers State University President Dr. Larry Rice and his wife Peggy, making the evening one of fun, food, and fundraising for public television. “Our goal is of course to get as many people to come to the dinner/ fundraiser as possible so that we can build relationships with them – with individuals and the corporates with whom we don’t already have relationships, and to say thank you to those relationships we have, and to those individuals who love RSU Public TV,” he said. Aills said corporate tables and individual tables are still available, and he’s hopeful that this year’s event will be the biggest yet. “We’ve done two of these before now, those were the ones with Nick (Stellino),” he said. “Each year exceeded our expectations in terms of attendance – it was fantastic. We’d like to see that same kind of exceeded expectations again this year.” As the only full-powered public television station licensed to a university in Oklahoma, RSU Public TV provides educational, cultural and general interest programming to an audience of 1.2 million viewers in northeast Oklahoma and the Tulsa Metro area. RSU Public TV also produces original programs, such as “Living Grand on Grand Lake” and game show “I Want Answers,” which features area high school students. “We operate on a budget of $1.2 million, which is a relatively small budge in the public television worlds – I think we’re one of the smallest (budgets) out there, but we’re able to do a lot with it, and we get a tremendous amount of positive feedback from our local content,” he said. Fundraisers such as the upcoming
Dia De Festival en Baja area also part of what helps keep public television stations such as RSU Public TV on the air and able to pay for equipment and important upgrades, such as the station’s recently-purchased new transmitter and antenna. “Not to brag, but we out-produce stations in larger markets in terms of content because we work harder at building local content,” he said. “We’re all about northeast Oklahoma – that’s our mantra, and these fundraisers, particularly this one, are important because it’s all about community engagement. Our goal is to get corporates and national foundations engaged with us, as well as engaged with the university. “And of course, Dia De Festival en Baja is our way of thanking our supporters – thanking our supporters individually, thanking our supporters corporately – this is who we are, and this is what we’re about,” he said. “I’ve been the general manager at RSU Public TV for five years now, and I love this place. There’s a lot going on at this little station. It’s constantly growing, doing new things, reaching out to more people and connecting with more and more of northeast Oklahoma.” Dia De Festival en Baja featuring Pati Jinich will be 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 at Tulsa Country Club. Proceeds from this event go to benefit RSU Public TV. for additional information and to RSVP, visit www.diadefestivalenbaja. eventbrite.com or the station’s website at rsu.tv.

C
elebrating its 5th anniversary as the only fall season home and garden show in the Tulsa market, the timing could not be better on its new earlier weekend. The new schedule will allow visitors to enjoy ample parking adjacent to the Exchange Center which was not always the case in previous years. The show will feature hundreds of booths with a mix of both local exhibitors and companies from around North America. This expo will help you connect with experts in a broad range of fields including: kitchens and baths, outdoor living, energy savings and home technology to name a few. With over 40 major business categories represented, this event will certainly prove helpful to your immediate needs before the end of the year

as well as pre-planning spring projects around the house. The show also features a variety of personal products and services, gift ideas, and family-oriented fun for all ages. The 2018 Fall Home Expo, a Tulsa Home Shows production, will come two weeks earlier than in past years opening at noon on Friday, November 2nd through 5pm on Sunday, November 4th. It is located in the Exchange Center at Expo Square on the Tulsa Fairgrounds. The show is sponsored by Engineered Concrete Systems, local experts in new and replacement concrete projects, with special thanks to Values Magazine again this year.
BIXBY, JENKS, & SAPULPA OCTOBER 2018
Other show sponsors include Stone Canyon in Owasso and AT&T. Admission and parking are both free and there will be a $500 daily Visa gift card giveaway. Folks entering the giveaway will receive a valuable free gift just for entering, while supplies last. Fall Home Expo brings all this plus much more to you and your family. Additional show features include: • American Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday and Saturday. • A 600 square-foot operating display of garden train installed by the Tulsa Garden Railroad Club • The Rescue Roundup
• The Little Light House book fair fundraiser supported by Usborne Books & More • More to be announced on FallHomeExpo.com prior to show time. The American Red Cross is in dire need of donations. If you, or anyone within your circle of influence is a current donor or would like to start donating, your gift of life would be extremely welcome. Donations are best made by appointment to allow matching of donation staffing levels and supplies. Walk-ins are accepted as the schedule allows. Your appointment can be set now on RedCrossBlood.org or with your RapidPass app if you are already a regular donor. A well kept secret in our city is the love of trains and the ability to demonstrate that love in a big way in your own backyard. The Tulsa Garden Railroad Club will be operating a large display of garden trains for the first time ever in a Tulsa Home Shows event. This is a great time to bring the entire
family and enjoy seeing the trains in action, ask questions and maybe elevate your interest in a fun new hobby. Remember, Christmas is only a few weeks after the event and trains can bring out the kid in all of us. Club members will be operating the trains and available to answer all questions about the hobby and club membership. Rescue Roundup is a unique gathering of several of the Tulsa area’s top dog adoption groups. The goal of the Rescue Roundup is to find forever homes for as many dogs as possible. Come see and pet dozens of dogs and puppies looking for their new families. This special feature is made possible by Angel’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory. The Little Light House book fair will help provide quality books to the students at Tulsa’s largest and oldest privately-funded school for special needs children. Last year the event was able to provide over $600 in new books for the children. This year’s goal is to break the $1,000 mark with your help. All sales will generate
a 50% matching donation from Usborne Books and direct donations are also accepted. Plan now to attend by visiting FallHomeExpo.com. On the website, you can preview the list of exhibitors and sponsors. You can also register to receive additional show information including notices about contests, prizes and any yetto-be-announced show features as well as other upcoming shows and special offers. Admission to Fall Home Expo is free and parking is free. This enables you to bring the entire family along with friends if you wish. You can enter and re-enter as many times as you like over the weekend without ticketing expenses or having your hand stamped.

For a bit more adventure, the Castle’s Haunted Hayride provides fun for all aboard. The Castle’s Halloween Village also features live entertainment on the Chessboard Stage with the comedy of the Jester Rejects, Mark Logsdon the Escapologist, and Mirage Dance Company.
